An Oasis of Calm, in a wonderful City.
The nicest staff, the cleanest room, and definitely the Crispest, Cleanest sheets on the most comfortable bed I have slept in for a long time. WiFi on all levels. Lovely relaxing communal areas, a great roof terrace to sunbathe and relax.

Just spent 4 nights at Darhani for our 30th wedding anniversary. It was a real oasis amid the hustle & bustle of the medina with an excellent roof terrace for sunbathing or just chilling out in the tented area.

Breakfast varied slightly every day but was always excellent -served with freshly squeezed orange juice and moroccan breads, crepes and delicious jams.

We had the Walnut Room which was on the first floor with a large 'tadelakt' bathroom and a huge round bath with nice touches like bathrobes and Molton Brown toiletries.

Just one comment, a Dar is quite echoey and the 'Walnut' bed
creaked even when you coughed. Enough said. Also, bringing baby not a good idea - at least for the sake of other guests - the echo just amplifies their voices and they love it, no-one else does at 6am!

It was comforting to be in an English-run dar and the team couldn't have been more helpful. Sarah gave us great local knowledge and Helen organised a trip to the mountains at very short notice.

All in all, Darhani provided a perfect combination of feeling at home yet discreetly looked after in every way .

We were a bit disappointed that the chef was not around during Ramadan to prepare meals and Marrakech will also be quite noisy overnight during this time with various calls to prayer disturbing your sleep. It's probably best to avoid this time if you can.

We have just arrived back from Darhani in Marrakesh. We booked through hipmarrakesh. Everything was as the web site said, the photos are accurate it is just beautiful the staff are friendly and informative. Sarah gave us a map explained everything so clearly. Not once did we feel threatened even when a kind a man was trying to take us to his brothers shop in the opposite direction to the souk we wanted. One couple left the day after us he left us with his compass, which is in the post back, this really did help us find our way back to our little oasis. The Darhini Riad is found as explained in other reviews down little allays that you soon get to know and is one of those places that you would love to live in, it is clean and fresh and friendly and i would love to go back soon. They also have a piano which the other guest Neil and little Em played beatifully.

I stayed in this riad with my girlfried for one week in early June 2007 and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The riad can be booked directly through the Darhani website and the pictures on the site are perfectly representative of what you can expect so I have not posted any more here.

On arrival in Marrakesh the Riad will send a taxi driver to the airport to meet you (I would not recommend hiring a car as the roads are pretty crazy) and you will driven just inside the medina walls (cars are not permitted any closer to the house). You will then be met by a 'man with cart' to take you all the way to the riad. Expect to pay 150Dh in total for this trip (about £9).

This first exposure to Marrakech was a little worrying. As above, the roads and streets are very hectic and we were then taken down plenty of dark alleyways in order to reach the house. Please note that the riad is in a VERY safe area and we saw no trouble while in Marrakech.

Once inside the riad it is hard to beleive that the Marrakech world even exists as the interior forms a bubble of calm to relax from the flight and the subsequent days spent haggling in the souks.

We occupied the Walnut room for the entire week which was very nice, huge bed, matching wardrobe and a lovely comfortable bathroom. Toiletries are supplied along with fluffy white bathrobes - nice touch. The sink did not drain particularly well in the bathroom but this is a minor point. It was in the process of being fixed during our stay.

The house is very echoey but this is normal but does mean that you have to be mindful of the noise you make during the stay. The upside of this is the resultant tranquility.

The staff at the house are very friendly although with the maid and cook a little french goes a long way. Sarah (guest relations) was very helpful and spent time with us on the first day and provided a very good annotated map. The staff at the house will also book restaurants / taxis if your french is as bad as mine.

Breakfast is included in the price of the room and normally consists of bread, pastries, yoghurt, coffee/tea and the nicest orange juice I have ever tasted. You are able to help yourself to tea/coffee/water whenever you want, free of charge.

Further to other reviews the front door was fixed during our stay. You don't wake up the entire house while trying to kick down the door on your way in at night.

I really reccomend staying in a riad/dar within the medina which will offer you a truly Morroccan experience in Marrakech (as opposed to the faceless hotels in Gueliz which are all 30-40 minute walk from the Medina) and the Darhani is as good an example as any.

Finally, while in Marrakech you really need to check out some of the excellent food on offer. Go to Ksar Essouam (spelling is definately wrong) which is on page 102 of the timeout guide on the bookshelf in the sitting room of the riad. It was the best meal we had in Marrakech.

Enjoy your stay.

Jon - Nottingham

I originally tried to book a number of riads before settling for Darhani - for the supposedly 'low' season, Marrakech was pretty booked up for the weekend we wanted.

Although this wasn't our first choice, we definitely don't regret staying here. It was everything we expected of a riad - personal service, intimate and elegant surroundings and attention to detail. We stayed in the Mistress Room, which was romantic, beautifully decorated and spacious with a large corner bath. We had to move to a standard double room on the last day as the room was booked for the night - this was quite a bit smaller but still comfortable.

We ate in on the first night after a tiring flight and the food was delicious, very reasonably priced (£12 per head for 3 courses), with a welcome complimentary bottle of wine. Darhani staff were lovely and did their utmost to make our stay enjoyable. Atmosphere is relaxed with guests encouraged to help themselves to water from the small kitchen and coffee / tea. There is a small plunge pool, which we didn't brave as it was unheated, and a gorgeous terrace, which we imagine is glorious in summer.

One small note - on first arriving, we were taken down a long series of dark winding alleyways by Hassan, the riad taxi driver, which were quite frightening and confusing. However, although we did get lost the next day, we soon got used to it - dark alleyways in Marrakech are just a fact of the (lack of) city planning and the neighbourhood was safe and non-threatening. It's a few minutes walk to the souks and a brisk 10 mins to the main square.

Darhani is a great, friendly place to stay slightly away from the madness of the main jemaa el'fna area. I'd definitely recommend for couples and those looking for an utterly relaxing time.

We stayed a total of four nights, coming and going, on three separate occasions. It is a quiet, modestly appointed riad. Breakfast is good, including the best coffee we had in our first two weeks in Morocco. There is a nice rooftop terrace that we discovered only after our third night there. There is a pool that we did not use. Omar is a very friendly and potentially helpful guy, when he is there. They will store luggage for you, though it is not clear that they have a locked space in which to do so. You must follow a narrow winding path to find the riad. A sign would be helpful. Pretty good location inside the medina. It’s a ten minute walk to Dar al Bacha, an access point to the medina, and a place to grab a taxi. About a 15 minute walk to the main square.

We were given such a warm welcome. Everyone was so friendly and we had quite a lot of laughs with Saida and Fatima.
Saida cooked us a lovely meal on our last night, and we ate it in one of the salons, in front of a roaring log fire.

Riad Darhani is a beautiful traditional riad in a good location in the medina. We love Marrakech. I think this was our fifth visit, and our seventh to Morocco.

We travelled with “Naturally Morocco”. We have used this company several times and always found it to be excellent. Karen and Sue have in-depth knowledge and an obvious love of Morocco. The riads are all delightful, and itineraries are adapted to the customer’s requirements. All travel arrangements went to plan.

Beautiful, lovingly restored riad in authentic berber style with excellent practical amenities and utterly tranquil. I loved how it was tucked away down a winding historic side street. Exceptionally clean and with fantastic vegetarian and vegan food.
Staff were wonderful and added greatly to the magical ether of the place and understood what we needed from our stay in Marrakech and made sure we got it. Everything about this riad is quality. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
