Had the most perfect stay. The property is stunning, the staff were very attentive and gave great recommendations for restaurants. We had to leave early the next day so they organised an earlier breakfast for us which was fantastic. Would definitely visit again!

Really enjoyed our one night stay at La Tangerina. Excellent staff and a most welcoming and warm environment. Staff made excellent restaurant recommendation and the breakfast served at La Tangerina was excellent. Breakfast served on the rooftop, numerous choices and all delicious. Would highly recommend this location for a stay!

Beautiful hotel! Good location. Near but not in Medina. Friendly and helpful staff. Room 7, above the street had view but noisy at night. Great rooftop deck for breakfast. One drawback, didn’t take credit cards. I’d recommend this charming hotel.

Another family favorite! We were in Tangiers 2.5 days and loved this riad so much we spent the whole 2nd day on the rooftop there. La Tangerina is located on high ground adjacent to the Medina and an easy 10 minute walk to the Grand Socco. It is a small riad of about 10 rooms, lovingly restored in the French Colonial style by the couple who owns it. The inside was bright and airy with rooms arranged around a small central space covered with a large skylight. The rooftop is two levels - you can sit in the sun or the shade. My son preferred the cushioned reading nook. You can see Spain! We got the kids a narrow two-twin room with a view of the ocean and ourselves the sole room on the rooftop. Our front door opened to the rooftop and our back door to a private patio overlooking the city. Bathroom exceedingly small and old-fashioned keys means one per room so you have to coordinate. But I would go back in a heartbeat.

Good location in the Khazbah. Medina steps away. Terrace offers views. Rooms are simple yet comfortable. Cash only here so be advised. No parking so taxi is the way to go . Prices are reasonable. Pay in Euros or Durhams?

My husband and I stayed here on the first stop of our Morocco honeymoon. It's truly a beautiful building and everything is thoughtfully and carefully designed. We stayed in room 8 and had a view of the water. We were greates with tea and cookies on the terrace. The breakfasts were some of my favorite on the trip, and we stayed for lamb tagine dinner, which was excellent as well. The hammam was a relaxing experience and the location was great - walkable to many of our destinations. The staff had great recommendations and went out of their way to make us feel at home.

I stayed at La Tangerina for one night with my family. The experience was underwhelming and the attitude of the owners is shameful. They did not provide bedding for the night we stayed, I contacted the owners, Farida and Jürgen, about this the following day over email as neither were present at the hotel. Farida initially emailed back from her own email address to say "our experience is very important" and that she and Jürgen were away for 2 days so she would get back to us on their return. That was 4 weeks ago, I still have not heard back from her despite following up a number of times (on her email address and the one used for the original booking). I booked a suite for 3 people at €150 for the night. On booking I mentioned numerous times that the request was for 3 people and Sarah at La Tangerina confirmed that the booking was made for 3 guests. However, when we settled in for the night (after 11pm) we found that there was no bedding provided for the single bed and just a sheet on the double bed. It was a cold night and the hotel is by the sea making it even colder. The night manager (very professional, unfortunately I did not get his name) provided us with what was available - a couple of sofa throws which were itchy and not big enough to cover an adult. He also advised us to turn on the heating in the room but the heating did not work. With it being so late by this time and everyone was dressed to sleep, it was not appropriate to call the manager into the room to fix the radiator. We appreciate that he tried but this should have been taken care of when the room was being prepared. The booking experience was arduous. La Tangerina is not available through any booking site and the rooms cannot be booked through their own website either. Everything has to be done via email which would be fine if the hotel offered the information needed to secure the booking when you enquire about it. Instead, I had to ask Sarah to get clarity on each point - how the payment needed to be made; which part of the deposit needed to be paid and which currency it needed to be paid in. The invoice sent was for a different amount to what was quoted in the email - and it was in French whereas all email communication was in English. In addition to this, the deposit had to be paid to a bank in Spain while the hotel is in Morocco - 2 different countries on 2 different continents - no explanation was given for this. We did not have to make a payment in this way for any other place in Morocco, in our experience this is not the norm. The check-in process was not outlined after booking either and no information was provided on the lunch and dinner which had to be arranged in advance. I ended up booking La Tangerina due to its location in the city (safe area), its proximity to the airport and the good reviews. At the time of booking there was no other suitable option and our flight home was from Tangier, otherwise I would not have gone through with the booking. I also asked Sarah about the remaining balance during the booking process, whether it needed to be paid by card or in cash and in which currency. These questions were ignored and when we arrived at the hotel we were told we needed to pay in cash and in Euros. This is neither the currency of the country we were visiting nor where we are from. I brought cash in Euros just in case, and I had the exact amount which was a good thing as the hotel said they wouldn't have had any change to give us if we had overpaid! Before arriving I also emailed to ask whether the hotel would be able to arrange a transfer from the station and confirmed our time of arrival. The hotel ignored this email too. When we arrived I asked the person at reception (different to the night manager) about dinner in the hotel, he laughed and told me that if I expected to eat at the hotel then I should have arranged it beforehand. Surely information on booking dinner ahead of time should be shared before dinner! The hotel is located at the top of a steep hill and most of the restaurants are at the bottom - I asked the same person about getting a taxi. He laughed and made a comment implying that we were being lazy. I mentioned that my mother was unable to climb the hill, plus it was late and we were tired from travelling. He then responded that my mother should be able to do it, it’s not a big deal. I tried again and asked the cost of the taxi in case he was hesitating to tell us because of the cost, to which he remarked that what difference did it make to me about the cost - I should be able to afford it. When I raised a complaint to Farida about the stay, I mentioned the issue with the bedding and the booking process only as generally the people I met working at the hotel were good. The booking process needs to be improved, Sarah is nice but if there had been another hotel available that met the criteria I would not have wasted my time trying to get the information from her. The manager who made the snarky remarks I initially put down to cheekiness rather than malice. However, seeing that Farida and Jürgen did not take the complaint about something as basic as bedding seriously, I imagine the service level and approach is probably a lot to do with their working culture in the hotel. For Moroccan standards the hotel is pricey, there are very few amenities and the service is below average. We stayed in 5 cities while travelling Morocco over a number of weeks and La Tangerina was the least hospitable stay. All other Riads that we stayed in were generous and went above and beyond which made our experience in Morocco unforgettable. This was a stark contrast to Farida and Jürgen who do not even care enough to apologise for a massive oversight. We stayed in Room 6 which has a double bedroom, a bathroom and a third bed in the sitting area. The room was spacious and clean but basic - the only amenities were towels and soap. There was no A/C unit and the heating was not working. The hotel is decorated in a colonial style and has a view of the sea and Tarifa. It has a very European feel rather than Moroccan. Breakfast was included, we only had a basic breakfast option as we left for our flight before the chef arrived. The night manager took care of breakfast as well and ensured it was ready early before our taxi to the airport arrived. La Tangerina is style over substance - I would not recommend staying here. It was an uncomfortable and cold night and the owners do not care about guests.

This is a perfect place to stay in Tangier. It's a beautiful riad in the middle of the kasbah, so the location is perfect, and the rooms are comfortable and well-appointed. We stayed in Room 1, which was even larger and more comfortable than the pictures on the website showed. I would highly recommend one of the larger suite rooms, though, because those have outward facing windows that are perfect for a cross breeze (Room 2, for example, only has windows facing into the courtyard). There were so many thoughtful touches, from water in the room to radios playing classical music everywhere. The staff was so helpful, and the breakfasts were delicious. The only slight snafu came when we tried to book all of our activities through the hotel--transfer to and from the ferry, tour of the medina, and day trip to Chefchaouen. Honestly, I'd recommend making those reservations yourself. We weren't able to find our driver for 20-30 minutes when we got off the ferry, and it was a little tough to get in touch with them to see where he might be. The other tours I misunderstood and thought would go on our hotel bill, making them easier, but we ended up paying the guides directly--which was fine, but meant it might have been easier just to arrange those ourselves. Overall, though, I'd come back in a heartbeat!
