We stayed in one of the beach bandas for five days (wednesday-sunday) in september 2016 (end of the month). I read some reviews talking about a dirty pool / not so nice facilities and was mentally prepared for that, but then got surprised in a very positive way! The sanitary facilities were absolutely fine, toilets were always clean (I saw... More

We stayed here again in March 2015 but closest dates are sep 2015. We had a great time on the beach for 7days, it has a nice feeling of being in the city yet not. Great food great staff, memorable holiday and beach.

It is like camping at the beach. The bandas have a mattress and a mosquito net, not very comfortable, but camping usually isn't! Communal showers and toilets but in good condition. Very nice lounge area and great views of the beach. Food is a bit expensive($6-$10) but lot's of places to get street food in the area and across the... More

Mikadi beach lodge is a terrific budget option just a few miles outside Dar Es Salaam. The thatched huts are small but perfectly functional. The beach and sea are clean, and the views gorgeous. The food was in keeping with the budget and the bar was well stocked. Lucha the owner couldn't have been more helpful. The only very slight... More

After reading countless bad reviews on this place, my friend and I ignored them anyway and booked a sea view double room at Mikadi. We checked in around noon, went to the room and put our bags down. The room was simple -- two twin mattresses, mosquito net, and a broken fan. However, the sheets were clearly not clean and... More

We stayed here in the beach chalets, and it was an awful nights sleep. Our accommodation had one wall and three sides of just metal wiring. The beds have no sleeping sheets, just the base sheet. Mosquito nets had holes and the bar is so loud as there is no walls at all. Showers were cold and salty. Wifi didn't... More

We stayed at the beach resort for a week. The lodges are cosy for couples to stay. The staff is really friendly and helpful. The weather was pleasant for the first few days. But when the winds stopped it became extremely humid with long electricity cuts. That made the stay difficult. The washroom wasnt ok for me as I expected... More

Ocean-side in Kigamboni – the neck before heading further south to the better beaches – you need to take a small 10-15min cross -channel ferry from Dar Es Salaam to reach Mikadi (not to be confused with the bigger types that trawl the route to Zanzibar, but walking distance from that terminal). The ferry is super cheap (TZS500 or something... More

Its a Campers Paradise, the Staff are very friendly and the host (Lucho) is very helpful. We took the Bandas with sharing Washrooms and they were pretty decent. Ambiance is warm and welcoming. I guess one would also enjoy with a Family as long as you have a Campers attitude.

Meetings finished early in Dar so decided to have a night out away from the city and explore the south coast. I booked a banda with an en suit (at the back of the property). Great day spent on the beach - perfect relaxation before I go back home to my 9 month old and the lack of sleep that... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Mikadi Beach Lodge derives its name from the Mikadi tree which thrives along the beautiful Tanzanian coastline. Jo (Zimbabwean) & Lucho (Chilean) married and owner/managers, took over the lodge in February 2008 and since then have embarked on a complete refurbishment of the place. If you have your heart and soul in a place this emanates to staff and clients alike. We are in love with Mikadi and that shows in everything we do to make your stay with us both enjoyable and memorable. They say location is everything and we are in the perfect location! We are only 15 / 20 mins from the Zanzibar ferry so ideally placed for those travellers wanting to visit Zanzibar. ... more   less

“Fact is that I didn't use the room much. Haha spent most of the night / morning sipping killi and whiskey, swimming in the pool then watched the sun come up, then spent most of the next day snoozing in the hammock. Hahahah Classic night. If you need rest go for the upgrade with ensuite. If your going to party take the standard room as it is right in the beach.”
