Taasa Lodge, located on the northern edge of the Serengeti in Tanzania, is nestled on a ridge within a Wildlife Management Area. The lodge offers an array of unique opportunities not possible inside the national park. Some of these include private off-road game drives in open vehicles, walking safaris, night game drives, dinners in the bush, sundowners in the concession, authentic visits to a Maasai village, hot air balloon safaris and day trips to the Mara River. The 12 spacious tents are beautifully and luxuriously constructed under canvas and offer stunning views. From each tent you can enjoy the rich plains of the concession while watching animals in their natural habitat. The main lodge and infinity pool also offer staggering views of the landscape. Taasa employs and empowers members of our local community, preserves and protects the indigenous wildlife and natural species of the region and educates global travelers on the rich natural and cultural experiences found within Tanzania.

Detailed Reviews
We were so lucky to have found this on Travelzoo over the covid hiatus. While we had already done one safari in So Africa and Botswana, we had loved it so much even though we had missed a couple of the big 5, the value this presented led us to say lets try it again. This time we saw everything including a leopard making a wildebeest kill.
We couldn't have picked a better place to start our newest safari, the accommodation's are pristine and exactly as you see in the pictures on the Taasa website so i won't include picture of the room or grounds. Upakendo kept our unit in top shape and she was our butler and server, over the course of 5 days she learned our ways and was always available to help. The Taasa crew were very accommodating and saw to all our needs, anticipating our needs often before we new we needed something.
Our Driver Logo was a storyteller in the truest sense of the word, he regaled us with tales of Massi life and customs. with him we saw many many animals but we also learned of the Massi culture....what a treasure. Seketo our tracker saw things that weren't there until they suddenly were . He was able to anticipate movements by looking at the other animals and so often put us in perfect position to catch the perfect shot.
The lodge is located on the edge of the Serengeti National park, so many of the trips are in the park but not all, this allows for much more off road treks where it is easier to see more animals much closer.
We saw so much over our 5 days, over 2000 pictures, realize, I'm not a picture taker but it was just so compelling so click away, so we did.
We had 2 buffalo in our front yard one day as the camp is open to all the animals, but have no worries, a Massi warrior will walk you everywhere at night, you'll feel and be safe.
Don't miss the Massi village trip, what a day, you will appreciate all life has given you, and the trip to the school is a must see.... if your a teacher you'll never complain again, so many smiling faces, so eager to learn. if you could bring any school supplies they are greatly needed.
I would not hesitate to go again and if your still doubting just GO...you will not be sorry,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed and thoughtful response! I am SO excited for you that you were able to witness a leopard making a wildebeest kill - it is such a rare glimpse into the reality of life in the Bush! Logo and Seketo are an incredible duo and as you have learned - it is best to NEVER challenge Seketo to a spot-off! Furthermore, thank you for taking the time to go into the village and meet our staff's family and friends. We hope to have you again in the future!

Taasa Lodge truly is a special place. The tented rooms are large and luxurious with tons of privacy as they're nestled in the bushes overlooking Lobo Valley. The food was fantastic! We were lucky enough to meet Chef Axel who talked to us about his journeys and inspiration for the cuisine. What really separates Taasa Lodge from the other places we stayed during our honeymoon were the staff. Our butler, Mikindo, could not have been more delightful. He made it his mission to make us feel like VIPs during our stay. Our private sundowners and bush dinner on the top of the mountain overlooking the valley was a once and a lifetime experience.

My wife and I are very experienced travelers, but rarely have we ever experienced luxury service and attention to detail like that offered at this wonderful property. The enrichment provided by our tracker and guide, Reuben and Said, made the wildlife viewing experience genuinely unforgettable, and conversation with them and the other staff about the culture and history of the region and its peoples added an element not usually found on a luxury trip where one might be isolated somewhat from the realities of the place. Not here! Our tent was beautifully furnished with an exquisitely comfortable bed made that much cozier by the hot-water bottles placed by the staff every evening which kept us warm throughout the surprisingly cold nights. Our wake-up call came with excellent coffee and a little pastry to hold us until breakfast. Melissa, the assistant manager, is not only a delightful person, but saw to every need that arose quickly and efficiently. When the soles of our shoes were dirtied by animal droppings, they were cleaned meticulously, and laundry was done every day so we needed only one change of clothes. Finally I should point out that some experiences not available inside of the National Park are routine here, like night game drives and hiking with a ranger, guide and tracker. If you have any interest at all in a safari trip, you couldn't do better than this fantastic lodge experience.

What a wonderful and inspiring place! The location is perfect, on the hill looking over a large section on the edge of the Serengeti. The rooms are fantastic and comfortable, with exceptional views across the greenery. Being just outside the main park TAASA is able to offer night safaris which meant we were able to see large male lions in the dark! The staff were amazing, attentive, thoughtful and very welcoming - Wilson was fantastic :) The food was also of a high level. We stayed in a few lodges over our week-long safari, and often the food was good, especially considering the isolated location. The food at TAASA was excellent, regardless of the location! The price for the rooms is high, but a significant chunk goes back into local projects. We were lucky enough to visit a local school where TAASA has had a significant hand in building new classrooms, dormitories, and water pumps

From the moment we arrived at Taasa Lodge and were greeted by the amazing staff singing us a welcome, our experience was top notch. The accommodations were beyond amazing: most comfortable bed, luxurious sitting room and bathroom; they assign each room a “butler” who tends to your every need, brings you drinks in the afternoons, tea/coffee in the morning, serves your meals, does your laundry and even cleans your shoes after a game drive. The chef at Taasa is top notch, serving sophisticated dishes at each meal. The game drive guides are wonderful, spotting animals that are not visible to the untrained eye and adapting themselves to your activity interests. We have done a lot of traveling, but this was the best place we’ve ever stayed in and we were so sad to leave.
The lodge is run by local Masai and we had the opportunity to visit a local Masai community, which was fascinating. Each day we went on game drives and saw lions, giraffes, zebras, elephants and even the illusive leopard! I can’t recommend Taasa Lodge highly enough!!

My fiance and I just finished the most exceptional experience at Taasa Lodge. While I have been on other safaris at 5-Star resorts in the Serengeti, we have truly found our home away from home at Taasa. The pictures hardly do the entire experience justice. The attention to detail by the entire staff makes every day special and unique. The gaming team is simply remarkable. Their knowledge of the animals, their behaviors, the landscape far out match other safari groups. The ability to get up so close and personal to all of the animals was like no other safari experience. Our night safari took us within feet of a leopard and her cub having an evening meal. Breakfast in the bush surrounded by elephants and giraffes welcoming us with traditional Swahili song was a perfect surprising touch to the morning game drive. A moment we will never forget. A total different experience in the open vehicles allows for unmatched views, photography and being one with nature. The entire staff is top notch from our private butler Elias who is the perfect wake up call with coffee, tea and juice as we begin the day at dawn to watch the Serengeti wake up from the spectacular views from our porch to Melau the lodge manager and Seketo our tracker. World class culinary experience at every meal. The chef and staff went out of their way to prepare a traditional Kenyan dish for my fiance that made him feel as if he was at home having his favorite meal. Irene ensured that every daily arrival and departure back to the lodge was perfect being greeted with a cool drink of choice, a warm fire outside under the stars, and time to relax and freshen up before dinner. The lodge is ideally situated to capture the full migration including the river crossing, a sight to be seen. Once you arrive you have nothing else to worry about. Every possible need is included and accounted for all you need to do is ask. The Serengeti is a remarkable experience and my previous experiences were wonderful. However, none come close to matching the total experience at Taasa Lodge. If you are dreaming of your first safari or looking to return to the Serengeti, I can think of no better place than at Taasa Lodge. It will certainly be our only place to go.

This is a very beautiful lodge at the edge of the Serengeti. While the rooms were "tents" but for the canvas and the flapping of it during a windy night, you would not know it. The rooms were luxurious with wood floors, well equipped bathrooms and amazing views from the deck of each suite. The staff was extremely friendly and of all lodge/hotel stays we had on our trip, "Mic" was the best staff person. His energy was contagious and we all looked forward to seeing him each day. The late afternoon/early evening game drive that we had one of the days was very special where they set up a happy hour at sunset. We saw the best giraffes and closest male lions and warthogs on the game drives we did on the private reserve which was a great way to conclude our trip. Our guide was not afraid to go off road and get closer to the animals while still respecting their area. The only items for improvement that we saw were that there needed to be a bit more variety on dinner offerings (my spouse does not eat curry and one evening that was the only offering - vegetarian or lamb curry) and on occasion, no one was available in the lodge to assist with beverages or to open the gift shop. When we asked about the gift shop, the manager seemed put out that we were requesting to shop there mid afternoon before we left the next day. Also our guide was lovely, but very soft spoken so those of us in the second and third rows of the vehicle could not here her comments. This lodge is very close to 5 stars; just needs a few tweaks. That being said, I would still highly recommend it particularly due to the game drives on a private reserve that is not crowded with other tourists as in the Serengeti National Park.

The seven days my wife and I spent at Taasa were among the most blissful we've had in our 40 years together. Taasa staff clearly recognize that travelers' pleasure and satisfaction are directly related to freedom from concerns over tedious logistical details. From the moment we arrived in Kilimanjaro, Taasa arranged or directly handled every step in our transport from airport to intermediate lodging to our final destination at the lodge in Serengeti National Park. Upon arrival we were met and cared for by a staff whose professionalism, interpersonal skills and teamwork made every day a stress free delight.
The airy but modern and secure feeling rooms made every minute not spent on day or night safari drives feel idyllic. I devoted one day doing little but reading on the porch surrounded by trees, flowering plants and playful vervet monkey families. Full table service meals were delicious, and assigned hosts Upenda and Gabriel were omni-competent in arranging for any special requests.
Wildlife observation drives and walks, the obvious major attraction for many guests, were handled by guide Ole and spotter Ruben - both of whom were experienced and amazingly persistent in getting us into perfect position to photograph wildlife - and to understand fascinating quirks of their behavior. Our highest expectations for this part of the trip were fully met. I also should add that these two affable young men taught us as much about regional and tribal culture as any book we could've bought.
As a final note I want to say that, cliched as the statement, "We were made to feel like family" may sound, it's the best summary I can offer of the warmth and care with which we were treated at Taasa. We'll be sharing and reliving these memories for the rest of our lives.

Waiting for the Taasa at the Lobo Airstrip we said goodbye to our guide. The awaitingTaasa open air transport was manned by Ruben and Sa’id who constructed a table complete with food and libations. The two escorted us to the Lodge and explained that Ruben was the spotter and Sa’id was the driver. Our arrival at the property featured approximately up to 30 employees, lined up in formation, dancing, and chanting a welcoming song. We met Kezia, our Taasa escort and Melissa, the manager.
Our accommodation was a elegant-tented cabin with an open bath hidden in the rear of the structure. The food and service were outstanding, and the demeanor of the staff was respectful and helpful. When walking on the property, we were always escorted with a Masai “guard” with a spear to discourage any curious animals. Two nights for dinner we were privileged to dine with Melissa, who was pleasant, knowledgeable, and a valuable source of the endless plains and the history of the property. She was warm and welcoming, and that lodge exuded her heart and soul.
The four days we stayed at Taasa was great. Ruben and Sa’id drove us for many hours each day including a trip to Masai Village. Early mornings up to dusk we were treated to Serengeti scenes impossible to express. A nighttime Safari was included in our schedule, and a treat. The two guides were informative, very friendly, and informed.

We spent the first 3 days of our trip to the Serengeti at TAASA. Beautiful lodge in Loliondo region with attentive and warm staff. Gabriel, assigned to our family for the duration, took incredible care of us, meeting every request for food modification, never letting me carry my camera bag and pretty much ensuring everything was perfect. The tents are well appointed and incredibly comfortable, the site itself offers breathtaking views of the valley in front of the lodge and the night drives, bush walks and game abundance in the private concession (game controlled area) are wonderful.Close up views of a spotted genet, springhare and bush-baby at night were particular highlights thanks to Paul, Singita and William. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the local Masai village at Ololosokwan and were impressed with the way TAASA has provided fresh water. Their contributions to the local school are substantial and they facilitate guests contributing too. Of course there is daily and easy access to the Serengeti NP via Klein's gate and the game viewing was simply excellent. Lions were abundant and we saw hundreds of bird species and all the large and small mammals one would expect. The lodge is also home to some impressive art work and photographs. Well done and thank you to everyone at TAASA

Hi Brenda, thanks for reaching out. If you book a Game Package all your game drives are included at the lodge. Please let us know if you have any other questions - we're here to help :)
The length of drives depends on the game viewings and our guests preferences. Some guests like to be out all day and as long as possible, others like shorter trips! The 11 hour drive might have been due to some incredible animal viewings.
There are bathroom breaks. 1) Upon entry and exit to the National Parks there are restrooms or 2) Our guides will park in a place that is safe for you to exit the vehicle and go outside where you will have plenty of privacy!
Absolutely! Before departing for the US, Kilimanjaro International Airport has a testing center to obtain the rapid test necessary for re-entry into the US. The tests cost $25 per person and need to be in USD Cash!
Hi!
Thanks so much for reaching out. Unfortunately, drones are not allowed to be flown over the National Parks (including time spend in the Serengeti); however, you are able to fly drones while at TAASA on our private game reserve. Keep in mind that if you are traveling to other countries as well, such as Rwanda, drones are not allowed to be brought into the country. I hope this helps!
Sincerely,
Laine L.

Yes every tent has it's own bathroom.
We were told there was any food we could think of (but not sure yet - have only talked about the trip so far)
Taasa said they would send a list of things to pack/ bring as part of the prep emails.
