We booked Yarona, but we were turned down in a very unfriendly was on arrival and found this lodge next door.

The staff was very friendly; the rooms clean; it is a very convenient location if you want to drive out of down in west-ward direction - e.g. Kgalagadi Transfontier Park.

We had an unscheduled stop in Gaborone and spent one night at the Big Five. It is a hotel with a personality which in my opinion is a big plus. The rooms are very nice, well kept and clean. We paid less than 700 pula with breakfast and a free airport shuttle. The staff was nice and very polite. Our only problem arose when our neighbours arrived at 4am and argued very load for quite some time. Not really the hotels fault. I have no problem recommending this hotel.

We were tree people and we looked for a room for three people. Our room as am Africa cottege was big and suitable for three or four people. The price was 850 for a cottage with breakfast. There is also a swimming pool in restaurant area but the water wasn't clean.

The rooms are great - big, clean - and the pool area and decor throughout are beautiful and picturesque. The staff, while very friendly, weren't up to scratch when it came to service.

Very pleasant stay overall though.

I stay at the Big Five often, when in Gaborone. It is one of the more pricewoorthy places, only a bit far out of town close to one of the lower value suburbs (Mogoditsane). The Chalets are very nice, with fridge and tea making facilities, A/C and the restaurant is reasonable. But don t bother looking at the menue. Just ask what they have. Beer is always cold!

Slow check in. Wifi is included but only works in the reception area. When we arrived at 8am for breakfast there was only powdered eggs and beans left. Toaster was not working, when we requested to speak to a manager he only arrived 10minutes later and wouldn't even consider to give us discount for the "meal". We ate breakfast for the remainder of our stay in town. Rooms are very spacious and comfortable. The restaurant has a two page menu but only half the items were in stock, slow service from kitchen. The chef decides how you want your steak prepared and disregards any requests. We ate elsewhere for the remainder. If you don't mind bad service and food this one is for you.

The hotel covers a large area with individual chalets with their own outside seating area, and a large bar and restaurant area around the pool. Most of the staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful.

This lodge certainly has a lot to offer and could be five star with proper management and maintenance. However the rooms are in dire need of some freshening up and the bathroom was a disaster, towel rail lying on the floor , shower drain blocked (flooded the bathroom). Toilet not flushing properly. We had to request towels and toilet paper as none were in the room on arrival. The bar and pool area were once spectacular but now the water is green and unappealing. The pub has very limited stock and no wine was available. The restaurant service was rather slow and although our meals wer ok they were not great. Breakfast was not too bad.

Started using the Big 5 in 2006. Then the resort was new and we loved it. Have since used the placed everytime we visit Gaborone and Mogoditshane. The Big 5 lost with a lack of maintenance and I have seen the place deteriorate as a result. Today was the worst service experienc with a not so busy kitchen taking forever to serve a simple plate of chips. Will start to vote with my money with this place. Very dad indeed as the place has potential.
