Every time we stay in Bangkok we choose this hostel. Luckily, the guy who's in charge always remembers us and he keeps giving us same exact room. It's very basic but what else do you need for 500 BHT in the area with a view on the river and a chill out area just like that. If you're on a...

The location of the New Phiman Riverview Guesthouse is great for getting around town. Yes, they changed their name. Anyway... The location is great, the staff is friendly and the frig is always stocked with cold beer, water and Nescafe iced coffee. But look out for the mosquitoes, they are everywhere. What do you expect for $8.50 per night. Taxi...

My wife, my 3 & 5 year old daughters and I stayed here for our first two nights (16-17 Dec) of our 28 day trip to Thailand (headed to Chiang Mai on day 3). We booked through booking.com and it was approx 1125 baht for an a/c room that had two queen beds and a single bed. It was like...

I have mixed feelings about this guest house... First of all it is extremely hard to find!! I landed late evening and arrived at the guest house around midnight. After getting lost around it for ever, I finally found it but the door was locked. I had to knock for a long while before someone came to open. The vibe...

Excellent position and good prices. The owner and the staff are very kind. 10 minutes walk from Kaohsan Road but in a very quiet location. I heard that you can also have cooking classes here, but I'm not totally sure about it. The next time I'll be in Bangkok, I'll return there.

I had a really bad experience in this place. I stayed in this place for the 2nd time. First time a few months ago it was a good value for money. So, this time I came without any booking and as they had available beds in the dorm - checked in and paid for 3 nights. How disgusting was it...

So all the reviews here raving about the location are correct. This place is right on the river, tucked away down a maze of alleys. It's quiet, peaceful and does have a bit of a beach vibe. However, the owner pretty much has an enforced curfew - lights out by 11 pm, at least in the common area. Why? Because...

The hostel has a perfect location with a river view. The walk distance to the khao san road is 10 min. At the beginning its hard to find but just ask people in the neighborhood. I say nothing about Jane, she is just awesome and very funny!! The rooms are okay but the beds are hard. The meeting room in...

The strangest and nicest hostel out of the few I stayed in Bangkok. Still within the old town, but completely secluded from busy city, not even easy to find - can't be reached by car, last 50m from the car street is a labyrinth of narrow pedestrian passages. Hostel itself is at the very bank of the river - actually...

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighbourhood Profile
Banglamphu
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.
