Stopped here for only 1 night which was not long enough! Awesome place. Amazing. Design. Very quirky! Rooms were nice and dark for sleeping, well designed although on the more basic side. Helpful staff. You could leave bags. Food in the restaurant was good. Definitely recommended!

The hotel, located in the centre of Chinatown, was beautifully decorated emanating its namesake of "Shanghai", and was an experience in itself just to visit. The artwork, decor, furniture, soft furnishings offered a wonderful "Shanghai" experience and one that my family and I really enjoyed. Some of the rooms offered a better view than others (our room had no view... More

Dear onabox, Thank you for your kind comments. I am glad to hear you enjoyed your visit. Our historic building is in a tight urban block. As such, only some of the rooms afford good views. However, we have compensated with gorgeous design elements that bring in light and brightness. Kind regards, Woralak "Aey" Bangprasert General Manager More

We just LOVED staying here, although it was my only visit to Bangkok so I can't compare to other places. I thought for the value this felt like a crazy luxury hotel. Our Ying Hua room was sumptuously decorated, with fantastic shower and huge in-room tub I am ashamed I didn't use. It had a frosted window to outside (no... More

This was a overnight stay due to Holland American being in port for two days. I choose this Hotel because of price $62 US plus or minus and I was just a little worried. But, much to our surprise and I booked three rooms, it was clean and very nice. Frig in the room, free snacks in the room, a... More

This is such a lovely little retreat in Chinatown in the middle of Bangkok. The decor in the hotel is very well done. In particular the central open atrium with the lamps and pool at the bottom is simply enchanting. A sort of Chinese version of Hogwarts in some respects. The staff were very friendly and couldn't have been more... More

Stunning hotel, friendly staff, great breakfast, beautiful rooms with oriental theme...birdcages and lanterns! Great facilities - wifi, lock box, toiletries and air con. If you are sensitive to smell you may find the odour of the hotel unpleasant, not a bad smell but overpowering smell of strong incense, to fit with the hotel theme I guess. Bed was uncomfortable that's... More

This is the worst hotel I stayed in for my 3 week holiday in Thailand. My reasons are as follows: - I arrived and was shown to my room. I was really tired and wished to sleep. After hour hour there was music noise coming through the Air Conditioning vent. After complaining I was told it was from a Chinese... More

I stayed in Shanghai Mansion for two nights in November. It is probably my favourite hotel that I have stayed in this holiday. It is perfectly located at the top of Yaowarat road, Chinatown, the hotel is a short walk away from the food markets and street food that is on the doorstep. Alternatively, dine in the restaurant on the... More

Staying in Chinatown / Yaowarat

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown / Yaowarat
Better known as 'Yaowarat' among locals, Chinatown is Bangkok's bustling district that never sleeps. During the day, the main street and its small alleyways are filled with a vibrant mix of colours, scents and flavours coming from the roadside restaurants and all-day markets. The real action, however, happens after sunset. Surrounded by neon lights, Thais and tourists alike flock here around dinnertime to feast on some of the best street food in town. Escape the chaos by venturing a little further from the main road and discover hidden shrines, friendly locals and daily life in its purest form.
