An oasis of beautiful relaxing design in the middle of Chinatown. A great location to see the old palace or take a river boat. And a much nicer and more interesting Bangkok experience than staying in the middle of the commercial center in constant traffic jams. The room was very very nice, the lack of windows didn't disturb at all...

An extremely well decorated boutique hotel with excellent service rendered, one of the best i have been to. Rooms: The entrance door to the rooms really made me go "wow" - its a ancient wooden door locked with a padlock. I stayed in one of the deluxe room which comes with a bathtub and it was amzing to go for...

lovely rooms, the decoration is really interesting. Great location, with helpful staff (although don't book tours at reception, we found a boat ride down at the pier for 100 baht each compared to 1000 at the hotel) and a quiet nights sleep in a comfortable bed. Good breakfast - massive choice. Reasonably priced too - would definitely recommend.

This place is adaptive. Floors of green stone, some walls decorated with silk. Quite small place with intimate atmosphere, I really felt welcome as guest, not just a number. Amazingly beautiful place to stay. I really appreciated that relaxing chairs and board games placed outside the hotel rooms. Calling the guests to spent time relaxing with other guests. Only place...

Shanghai Mansion was a discovery to all senses: sight, sound, touch, taste and smell. It's a beautiful boutique hotel situated in the heart of Talad Noi, the Chinatown of Bangkok. The rooms are well-decorated, with a lovely private porch in the front. The meals at 'Cotton' Restaurant and the great choice of Live Jazz at nights. Recommended for a unique...

Shanghai Mansion is a lovely property in there middle of busy China town. While the premises were nice I did not stay here, but visited it's restaurant which unfortunately was probably not prepared for non-resident guests as they completely messed up all our orders. One staff spoke good English but then did not seem to understand Thai. The one that...

Had a great time here, nice to be away from usual touristy areas for a while. Great street food available on the hotel's doorstep, limited options in area for late night drinks but as taxis are so cheap this isn't a bad thing. We would definitely go back!

The hotel was great. The location was very good, just at the entrance of china town. Breakfast was generous and the decor of the place was very original and chic. This was a great alternative to the bog standard 5 star hotel in bangkok which you can find anywhere and are not very original. Value for money was exceptional!

We had a really wonderful stay here - the decor was of course beautiful, the rooms were spacious and very clean, and the location was great (easy to get a tuktuk or taxi to any of the main attractions and we liked the personality of Chinatown, though it's not for everyone). Pros: Fantastic greeting from Es who was very helpful...

Staying in Chinatown / Yaowarat

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown / Yaowarat
Better known as 'Yaowarat' among locals, Chinatown is Bangkok's bustling district that never sleeps. During the day, the main street and its small alleyways are filled with a vibrant mix of colours, scents and flavours coming from the roadside restaurants and all-day markets. The real action, however, happens after sunset. Surrounded by neon lights, Thais and tourists alike flock here around dinnertime to feast on some of the best street food in town. Escape the chaos by venturing a little further from the main road and discover hidden shrines, friendly locals and daily life in its purest form.
