The Marriott Chiang Mai, formerly the Le Meridien, is a recently renovated property that on the surface does reflect an actual 5 star hotel. The interior design is neat and the hotel smells lovely. The room is already a bit weary but I guess they have very wild guests? Upon check-in, we were upgraded to a room with Mountain View which also gives you views over the old town. Again, this property also does not give lounge access to their elite members unless you are on the highest tier, something that essentially goes against the terms&conditions of Marriott Bonvoy but seems to be the accepted norm in Thailand where hotels can decide individually what benefits they adhere to and what not, regardless of the terms&conditions that are set out by Marriot. This is something that is worrying and can make your Bonvoy Elite membership obsolete. Because of this, I would not advise anyone to spend actual money to climb the Bonvoy ladder and instead choose a different Brand to do so. If I may suggest, I suggest Hyatt. The room itself had some wear and tear but the biggest problem was that it was not clean! This seems to be a massive problem in Thailand and on this occasion I have actually seen what the problem is. When we left the hotel to go out and wander, we asked for the room to be cleaned at reception. Upon return a few hours later, the room was still not clean despite housekeeping claiming that they cleaned the room in our absence. When I explained and showed them what actually needed to be cleaned such as the floor that was sticky all over and had lots of spots on it, crumbs from the former guest on the floor near the table etc. I finally saw what the problem is. They don’t actual hoover the floor nor clean it with a mop, they simply change sheets, clean the toilet and shower and give the rooms to new guests! After pointing out everything that needed to be cleaned, they brought in an actual hoover but still no mop. I am not kidding when I say that she cleaned the floor spot by spot on her hands and knees with a sponge right in front of us and it took her over 30 minutes! This is by far the most inefficient way to clean a floor which is why you can still see their cleaning carts in the hallways past 6pm! After she cleaned the floor by hand, another one came in with a hoover which is totally wrong as you hoover first and mop after! You don’t hoover a wet floor because that will result in moving the now wet dirt fro A to B. You hoover the dirt away first and then you clean the floor with detergent and a mop! Cleaning in Thailand seems to be a big challenge as they clearly don’t know how to effectively clean a room, wasting time and money for absolutely no reason. The hotel apologised for this and gave us some hotel credit and brought some croissants over to the room. I do appreciate that everyone in the hotel was very friendly and courteous. Breakfast in this hotel was disappointing as well as this hotel was also serving pork, pork and more pork. I am not a muslim but there are more people who don’t eat pork. Some are allergic to it and some just find it an unsanitary animal, some are vegan or vegetarian and some simply don’t like the taste of it. I don’t know if costs is playing a factor here because the Thai kitchen as I know it for many years now always consisted of Prawn and Chicken. I am wondering if the sudden increase of Chinese and Taiwanese people in Thailand has prompted them to serve more pork. Either way, as a western hotel chain I think you should serve a wide variety of choices at breakfast and this sadly wasn’t the case. There were again no real Vegan options. No plant based yoghurt either in 2024 so good luck if you are lactose intolerant. Other than that, this was a good hotel and the location was very good as well. You can walk to the old town in 10 minutes, the pool was beautiful as was the restaurant adjacent to it. The pizza I had by the pool was top quality. The night market was around the corner though not for me, location was perfect if you are visiting for this. I would actually happily stay here again though there is no real benefit to being a Bonvoy member as such and therefore I still won’t progress with my Bonvoy membership.

For us, the hotel was perfectly location just minutes from the Night Bazaar and Warorot market. Service was great, and even though they could not upgrade us to a suite as Elite members they did offer us some Bonvoy points as a small goodwill gesture. The room we ended up with was relatively small but modern and with a basic bathroom. The stand out feature for us was the food at the M Club. The Club itself was being renovated and was temporarily located on the ground floor. The selection of food served was excellent. There's a very nice pool area on 4th floor with small but perfectly formed pool (although the water fountain jets are quite noisy if you seat yourself near them). There's also a modern gym featuring Matrix equipment. A very good hotel if you need a base in Chiang Mai.

Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast and staff were caring. Location was good with night markets 30 feet away. Lots of eating drinking shopping options. We enjoyed the higher floor room with mountains views. With our early flight in the morning they packed the breakfast. I liked the location for the shopping eating… we took taxi to the the temples. Day trip to Chiang Rai was great but longer day . We were tired …

The location was very good for a first time visit as it is close to the old town and the night market is right there. There are many restaurants in the area that are walking distance. The staff were generally friendly and helpful. The breakfast had a variety of options and was fine. The spa was nice as was the pool. Service at the pool was very good. As a lifetime platinum member, there was no special recognition and no room upgrade was offered. We had booked a larger room anyway so wasn’t expecting an upgrade. The refurbished areas were the common areas. They looked very nice. The room we were in was not updated. The bathroom vanity in particular was old and stained. In the closet area one of the drawers was broken and could not be used. Really didn’t think the room was up to Marriott standards. It was clean, the bed was comfortable and housekeeping did a nice job each day.

Despite our anticipation as seasoned travelers and dedicated Bonvoy Platinum for Life members, our recent stay at the Marriott Chiang Mai left us feeling deeply disheartened. Previously enchanted by the property under its Le Meridien guise, our hopes were high, but alas, the reality fell short in numerous ways, leaving us with a sense of profound disappointment. The purported "refresh" accompanying the property's rebranding only served to strip away the distinctive charm that once made it special. Instead of feeling rejuvenated, the hotel now exuded a bland, generic aura, devoid of the unique touches that once set it apart from the crowd. One of the most crushing blows came in the form of a glaring omission: the absence of an upgrade. Despite our status as frequent guests accustomed to lavish suite accommodations at Le Meridien on our previous 4 stays, we were unceremoniously denied even a modest upgrade to the executive level. Such a departure from past experiences left us feeling not just let down, but downright undervalued. To compound matters, it quickly became apparent that the hotel was ill-prepared for guests during our stay. From the disruptive construction work closing off the pool for days to the pervasive smells emanating from malfunctioning (or non-existant?) extraction fans in the Ping restaurant, the entire experience felt like a series of disappointments strung together. Our arrival was met with a lackluster greeting, with doormen only springing into action once our luggage was halfway into the lobby, the check-in process was long and ineffecient and essential arrival water and a refreshment towels were conspicuously absent. The room was not prepared with a welcome amenity either, while turndown service was announced promptly at 6 PM each night: that's two hours too early unless one is staying with 4-year olds..... Venturing into the executive lounge only served to deepen our dismay. The cramped rooms and haphazard layout of the F&B island created a chaotic atmosphere, while the lackluster quality of the offerings left much to be desired. Though the staff were outwardly friendly, their level of attentiveness left us feeling overlooked. Despite our Platinum status and repeated visits to the breakfast buffet and lounge, we were never addressed by name or engaged in any meaningful conversation about our stay or plans. Upon checkout, we were informed of an available upgrade from the second night onwards—a revelation that only served to underscore the hotel's failure to communicate effectively during our stay, leaving us feeling like afterthoughts rather than valued guests. The hotel's disregard for remote working needs was yet another disappointment, particularly considering Marriott's purported focus on catering to MICE and business groups. The dearth of power points and workspaces throughout the property felt like a glaring oversight, adding insult to injury. Overall, while our stay at the Marriott Chiang Mai was technically "acceptable," it failed to come anywhere close to the standards set by our previous experiences at Le Meridien. Given the significant increase in average daily rate following the rebranding, we can't help but feel that either substantial improvements are urgently needed or a frank conversation with the owner/investor/management teams about managing guest and financial expectations is long overdue. Right now the rebrand from Le Meridien Chiang Mai to Mariott Chaing Mai serves as nothing less than a showcase of the ephimany of everything that was wrong about the Starwood/Marriott sale and underlines the sad state of the Bonvoy program.

This is my second visit to the Marriott Hotel in Chiang Mai, and I want to acknowledge one of your staff members, Pla. She is among the most friendly and helpful staff members I have encountered since being a guest. I was here in January 2023, and when I returned in February 2024, she remembered me; I think the hotel is lucky to have her on the team. She is well versed in so many aspects of the hotel services and has been wonderful to engage each day. Thank you, Pla!!! Jeff - Vancouver, BC Canada

I really had a wonderful journey here with my mom for a Chinese New Year trip. All the services are perfect and everyone is truly welcoming guests to their hotel. Special thanks to concierge Boyer (hope I get the name right), who can speak Chinese to give my mom many valuable advice on sightseeing. A spa indulgence by Yui is also unforgettable. The full experience really makes me want to be back again!

Formerly Le Meriden, this Marriott has been newly renovated and it is classy, elegant and refined. The lobby is bright, airy and welcoming with a lovely unobtrusive bar area. Our room was beautifully decorated in a contemporary style and the A/c and WiFi were up to date. The gym had top of the line equipment, in full working order. The pool area was gorgeous...cool in the early morning with spectacular sunsets in the evening and a lovely little restaurant/bar. The breakfast in Pings was amazing ...literally everything to suit all tastes and cultures. We had dinner there too, which was lovely and we also ate at the Italian "Favola" ...the lasagne was great after a long day's travel. The Bonvoy Member's Lounge was just gorgeous with delicious bites all day and cocktails and more substantial food such as curries, in the evening. The staff and associates from arrival, concierge, reception, housekeeping, restaurants, fitness centre, pool area and food managers, are without exception, professional, friendly and efficient. If I could give my experience six stars I would. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it.
