Chiang Mai

I have lived at Tri Gong Residence for about 9 months with 2 short breaks to return home (Sweden). Upon my latest return to Chiang Mai in the end of May 2006, it dawned on me that my home was really the Tri Gong Residence. The owners, a husband and wife team, are like family, where they actually worry about each guest as if he or she were a family member. To make it even more 'homey', the owners live on the property together with many of their family members (4 generations). The residence is only 1 year old, so as you might expect everything looks new and fresh. My room is exceptionally clean, with shower, toilet and an enclosed balconey. Each room includes, a telephone, refrigerator, TV with more channels than you need, and hi-speed Internet (both cable and wireless). The rooms are all nicely furnished with fan and air. The outside grounds are kept very well, with 2 ponds and hundreds of trees and flowers. There is an outside kitchen where the guests can cook their own food. There is even some workout equipment for those ambitious individuals. The location is very central, and walking distance to the Night Bazaar, Sunday market, etc. The area is very safe and secure, and only guests with a key can enter the premises after 10pm. Considering the quality of the guest hous, I find the prices very reasonable: standard room 500 Baht/ day or 450 Baht/day if you stay 2 weeks; superior room is 700 Baht/day and 650 Baht/day if you stay 2 weeks (Internet, coffee and water are free). These prices are relevant for both low and high seasons. The owners pick you up from the airport, train station, etc. and take you back free of charge. I suggest booking early as the guest house is normally full.

I just happened to stumble upon this great guesthouse in Chiang Mai a few days ago and have decided to stay here for the duration of my visit. The name doesn't seem to be too well know with the tuk tuk and taxi drivers but it's easy enough to find. It's called the Tri Gong Residence located a 8 Sribhum Rd. Lane 1...now if you ask any tuk tuk driver to take you to Moonmuang Soi 9 to SK Guesthouse just get off there, walk to the end of this street...just a few steps actually... then hang a right...walk a few steps more and look to your right...voila..the Tri Gong Residence. The owner and his wife are super attentive to their customers and treat everyone very well...free internet, free coffee and water..even a fridge in the room...a covered balcony where you can hang clothes to dry...the bathroom is fabulously clean..oh, and it's very secure cause you have to use your key to unlock the main door when the owner locks up at night. It is low season here (Aug) and the rate is 500Baht per nite with a/c..because I'm staying for 2 weeks he has given me a discount of 450 Baht per nite. My daughter and I are sharing the room..double beds with the best matress and pillow i've slept on since arriving in Thailand...even better than the Holiday Inn if you can imagine. I highly recommend this guesthouse to anyone who is travelling on a budget because it truly is the cleanest place i've stayed at since arriving here. (--)

My husband and I stayed, for a month, and were perfectly happy here!! We have been coming to this city since 1980, and found this gem this year. I almost hesitate to give this review..as now, our secret will be known!
Mr. Duey, (the son,) is quite friendly, always taking the time to chat if you choose, and greets us each day with a great smile. His father, is simply, more quiet, not unfriendly in any way. They have too, a most pleasant Schnauzer, "Whip cream", for those of you, ( like us), that appreciate a little dog interaction.
We have stayed in many guest houses, hotels and residences in 30 years travelling here, and found this quiet, centrally located residence, to be EXCEPTIONALLY well maintained. The rooms are spacious, with plenty of hooks, hangers and racks for your clothes. The flat screen TV, the bottled water, provided daily, and the cleaning service, (weekly, if staying long term), all exceed other establishments we have visited.
The showers are clean, run unlimited hot water, and shampoo, soap, and q-tips are provided, as needed. The air conditioner works perfectly, and we found the beds (we chose the double room), especially comfortable..they use clean, white sheets and their towels, are soft to the touch.
The dual lighting allows for reading in bed, or at the desk, and if you are phobic about bugs, like I am...stay here, as in the entire month, I have not seen one! The room has a fridge as well as a large sitting chair, desk mentioned, and armoire with drawers. There is extra room for a lengthy stay, with ample living space, without tripping over your luggage.
There is a large, beautifully maintained courtyard, with numerous tables and chairs..along with a kitchen, to whip up a meal, should you desire. If you are not a cook, just relax there, with sustained hi-speed WiFi signal, and you are surrounded by maintained trees, flowers and tropical fish.More importantly, the constant street noise, and buzz of tuk-tuks, seems miles away..best restful sleep in town, ever(!!)
Internet cafe, long distance phones, laundry and convenience store within one residential road, a backstreet, still offering the "charm", that is reminiscent of "old, Chiang Mai", with a central and quiet locale. One night or one month for luckier souls..is well spent, in this decorative and authentic Thai style residence.
Parking is available, security assured with electronic key card gate, for after hours entrance...Feel like a Thai local, at this impeccably neat, ( bug free,)spacious residence, without the feeling of living in "dormitory" dungeons!! A gem worth finding (!), enjoy solitude, or social interaction as you wish...and we shall see you this time, next year!!

Went with all the TA reviews and service was good! However we checked out immediately as there's no safety deposit box and the toilet was pretty gross. See photos. We went to a place 1km away that had breakfast included too for 100 bht more. Don't really get what the hype is. This place is average in my books.

My family & I, two adults & two boys aged 14 & 11 stayed at the Tri Gong Residence from 27 September to 3 October 08. I actually found this guesthouse quite by accident while surfing around in tripadvisor. The choice was perfect - we could not have been happier.

The Tri Gong is in a great location, right near the Sribhum corner of the old city. We were within walking distance of the markets, great restaurants and the area overall was quiet yet very interesting.

Adam, the owner of the guesthouse & his family were wonderful. They were incredibly welcoming & helpful. We booked two tours through Adam & both were fabulous. The first was an all day trek run by Panda tours, the second was a day at the Baanchang Elephant Park. We highly recommend them both. On another day Adam arranged for his nephew to drive us around the city. It too was a great day, we visited the Tiger Kingdom which was amazing, a waterfall, picnic area & temple in the mountains overlooking the city & did some shopping. Adam's nephew was very attentive & we enjoyed his company. He also took us to the airport when we left.

The guesthouse was a peaceful & relaxing place to stay. The guests staying there covered a variety of nationalities & ages. My children felt particularly comfortable & I would often find them in the foyer/reception watching a movie with Adam & his family or on the computer. The rooms were clean & comfortable & the staff did a great job of working around your needs. There is a small outside kitchen that guests can use & a lovely courtyard where you can eat or just relax.

Overall this guesthouse was fantastic. We cannot fault it in any way. We highly recommend the Tri Gong Residence to all.

Dear friends,

i wanted to share the great time I had while in Chiang Mai to see my son bobby who has been staying in Chiang Mai for nearly an year now.

First of all, I will like to try to give you a picture of my experience: it is a very safe place for those looking for a homely environment and care.

Thailand has a liberal and open society, and to respond to a review posted below, I would like to say that Mr Adam, the owner, has done his best to keep the sanctity of Trigong Residence, by installing cameras and being there himself or one of his first family members to keep a watch and extend a personal attention and care to every guest. However every member who stays there, have electronic security keys to open the gates and come in or go out anytime of day or night. Sometimes these security keys which every guest staying in has, can be used to bring in 'strangers', but this is recorded by video cameras and Mr Adam has zero tolerance to anything which puts the security or safety of this place at risk. THis is not usual, very unusual, so dont be alarmed. THis is just to clarify an experience of a member below.

It is a very safe place, possibly the safest place you can stay in Chiang Mai, where you drown in affection and personal care and attention showered by Mr ADam and family.

Also the price of the room is not expensive if you consider:
1) split unit air-conditioner
2) unlimited 24 hours access to wireless and broadband cable internet
3) free mineral water bottles, as per your need
4) modern hot water facility in bathrooms
5) high quality housekeeping to take care of all housekeeping needs, similar to any -star-hotel in the world
6) access to fully furnished kitchen
7) access to complementary coffee-tea etc in the recption lounge
8) computer with internet available for those who want to travel light and not bring their own computers
9) nice cozy rooms, clean and comfortable with 'lanna' style furniture
10) balcony: the rooms on top have alovely balcony
11) Mist spray: when Sun makes the day hot, Trigong Residence has mist spray curtain to keep the interiors cool and cozy

and a host of features and facilities to make your stay truly comfortable, unforgettable and lovely one!

In case i can share any more information please do get in touch with me.

I was there not only to visit my son, but also to deliver a guest lecture at McCormick Hospital in Chiang Mai on Newer Horizons in Surgical Management of Diabetic foot.

Thanks again

Double room was good, included a/c and a fridge. There's also a quarter where you can do your own cooking which included a wok/stove, microwave and toaster and cooking oil.

Such a shame the elderly man who works at reception has a huge attitude problem and really couldn't care less about you or your enquiries. Aside from him, the place is a safe stay with a lock on the room.

Tri Gong is located at the North-Eastern corner (Sri Poom corner) of the old city.

The neighborhood is quiet, ideal for the people who prefer the peaceful places than the crowded ones.

The staff are very friendly and all of them speaks fluent English so they are always pleased to inform you about any interests and questions about/around the city.

Btw at the nearby corner there is a bar (Thai 1 On) with a pool table and great company every night so don't have to walk far if you would like to socialize a bit.

Because Tri Gong Guesthouse don't serve breakfast the mentioned bar is a good option for that also, and for dinner there is a thai-italian restaurant (Prego) in front of the building where I had one of the most delicious pizzas and pastas in Thailand ever!

There is a laundry-barber shop also and next 7-Eleven ABC market is like 5 mins walking on the main road.

I think that for what its worth the place is really good. The rooms are small and so is the bathroom but it is just enough to live in. In fact more than enough since it does include a fridge plus air conditioning and its own television. They even clean your room and give fresh new towels and throw your trash out for you. Not all residences do this.

We are staying here for the Loy Krathong festival and the front desk people are very accommodating and can even speak to us in English or Japanese which made our stay easier since in Thailand many people don't speak English. I would recommend this place since it is very quiet here but very close to restaurants and places of interest around Chiang Mai.
