Hanoi Grand Hotel is located in a quiet side street on the southern edge of the Old Quarter and about a 10 minute walk to Hoan Kiem Lake which is the heart of Hanoi. We actually walked with our luggage from the airport minibus shuttle which stops at the Vietnam Airlines Office - very convenient!
The hotel, opened earlier this year, looks quite unprepossessing from the outside with a narrow, nondescript frontage onto the street but our qualms were assuaged when we were shown to our room on the 6th floor. Our room was very spacious, attractively furnished and with everything you would require for a comfortable stay - nice beds, big bathroom (shower over the bath so be careful!), big TV with a multitude of channels, reliable WiFi, hair dryer and tea and coffee facilities (there is tea/coffee available all day down in reception). The room was very light and airy with a big window.
Staff was extremely attentive and helpful without being overbearing. We organised a day trip to Tam Coc through Miss Tam at the front desk for the same price as was available at the numerous agencies everywhere and the quality of the trip was excellent as they used Go Asia Travel.
The negative for us was the breakfast. It was very basic with a limited choice and served in a rather poky room. But it was sufficient for our needs.
For the price we paid I would have to say it was great value - not glitzy, luxurious but very nice indeed.,

Spending hours doing research on hotels definitely paid off. The rooms are good sized, stylishly decorated and have all the expected things of a standard boutique hotel (tv, desk, safe, closet, etc). The service was very good and so was the breakfast. The recommendations were spot on, the reception always very friendly and genuinely interested, charming and with a sense of humour as well as helpful when we needed attention .It really did feel like staying with friends, and their warm and welcoming approach encouraged all the other guests to interact and get chatting. You can't be more centrally located with most sites within walking distance. Great assortment of dining and shopping alternatives within steps from the hotel. Highly recommended and will definitely return. Don't hesitate booking Hanoi Grand Hotel - we had a superb stay and were sad to leave!

Very pleasant stay in a lovely hotel. Convenient location. Bed very comfortable and free breakfast is very good with a varied choice.

Staff were very helpful. Chinh recommended loads of places for me to go and ensured a great stay in Hanoi.

Kept my bags safe when I went overnight to Sapa and gave me access to a room FOC when I returned at 5:30 am to freshen up before I left.

We made a return trip to The Hanoi Grand Hotel and it did not disappoint. The staff, Rose (Mrs Nguyen), Lucy and the concierge male staff again extended themselves to help make our stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible. We appreciated their ability to inject some laughter in our encounters. I am grateful to them for phoning on my behalf to make an appointment with a Vietnamese hair dresser and for organising my laundry, my taxi trips. We valued how the staff anticipated our needs ahead of us such as use of a shower before a long flight home after check-out time. We were pleased that we could leave our own laptops in our rooms without worry too. We love the cleanliness and lightness of this hotel and its close proximity to everything one needs to access in Hanoi makes it a great place to stay. We have come to regard the Hanoi Grand Hotel as our home away from home in Vietnam.

Firstly, Dianne and I would like to share our gratitude to Mr Hoa, Ms Chinh and Madam Hien for their professional and personal services to our needs during our stay at HGH. They were exceptionally friendly as were all other staff including domestics. Nothing was any trouble for them and if there were any doubts as to our needs they volunteered further services or information, particularly in respect to city locations, tours and other items of interest. The breakfasts are a delight and you would have to be hard to please if you found them wanting, all breakfast meals are cooked for you and range from cereals to soups, baguettes, continental and american breakfasts with fruit, juice and coffee being automatically placed before you, lovely. Our room was a junior suite in one of the upper floors, very clean, roomy, with all amenities working, a great air con, good wifi and excellent range of TV channels (even able to watch the Aust Elections Count (smile). All in all our six night stay at the HGH was very pleasant and although we will not be visiting Hanoi again, we recommend HGH to anyone who is looking for a nice place to stay in the old quarter of Hanoi. Once again thanks to Hao, Chinh and Hien for their warm, personal and professional care. Good luck Guys and God Bless. Regards, Mike and Dianne, Brisbane, Australia.

We stayed here for 2 nights. Rooms are quite large with computer, safe, air con works well.
As previously stated by another review, bathrooms do need an update but were very clean and adequate.
Breakfast is order option which was ideal. Small hotel within close proximity to main streets & train station.
Staff are very friendly and accommodating.
Good for families.

I discovered this lil' gem online and took advantage of their outrageously amazing introduction price .The service was great too - very helpful people at the front desk and everyone we ran into was friendly. We changed money at the hotel and got a good rate and also booked a trip to Halong Bay
through them and the boat they recommended turned out to be just right. The design is beautiful - elegant and clean-lined modern but very inviting. The room and bath are very nicely decorated and everything from bed, sheets and towels felt so comfortable and luxurious. The hotel is incredibly quiet. We never heard the traffic from the street. Staff at desk were extremely professional, helpful and friendly. They printed a few things for us, recommended a good place from brunch, and were just pleasant no matter what we might have needed. Anyway, LOVE this hotel and I wish them continued success!! They're my favour!

I stayed at the Hanoi Grand for many weeks in March and April this year and could not have been happier with my choice of hotel.

My room was very large, well-appointed with homely touches, full of natural daylight and above all comfortable - a room for living and relaxing in, not just spending the night. As well as having probably the most comfortable bed I've encountered in Vietnam, there were easy chairs, a coffee table, a desk and chair, a computer, tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge that was large enough to store the wherewithal to make cold lunches and dinners when I didn't feel like eating out.

The day staff were fantastic, especially Tam the receptionist, Binh the chambermaid and Phuong the cook, who at breakfast made tomato and onion omelettes to die for. To my delight the breakfasts were made to order rather than buffet, and there was no danger of leaving the table hungry or unsatisfied. Free tea and coffee all day was an added bonus.

The location was great too - within easy walking distance of the hustle and bustle of the Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake, but in a quiet, untouristy street with very much a local flavour.

All in all my stay was perfect and I wish I were there now!

After reading everyone else's review, I left confident about choosing the Hanoi Grand Hotel. Really an upper class hotel at affordable prices. The Hotel was very convenient to all the major attractions, night market , Museum, shopping street , many nice restaurants within walking distance . It was fantastic!!!
The room was huge and extremely clean , the beds was amazing - not bouncy but very snug with warm linens. I slept better than I have in year in my own house . I don't know what kind of mattress that was but it felt like I was being cradled. There is " free " high - speed internet service. The bathroom amenities are above average. The front desk staff and housekeeping couldn't have been more friendlier or helpful! For rainy days, there is an umbrella at the front door. This is hotel where you can do all you want during the day and have a nice place to relax when you are return. This was my base from which I travelled to Sapa, then to Halong Bay, Ninh Binh and so on. Ms Rose and her enthusiastic, professional team advised me and assisted me with travel bookings and transfers. All in all this is the best stay i've had in the city and price permitting i will be staying here whenever i visit Hanoi.

My husband and I stayed here for 4days in August and enjoyed our stay very much. This hotel is worth the money we spent ! We got a great deal through expedia. There's no view here, but the ambiance and level of service almost make you forget. Extremely convenient to everything. We were upgraded to their signature room when we checked in. It's located in the higher floors with high thread count bed linens , an "amazon" shower head , great "roomy" room with luxurious features & design. The breakfast was very nice and served a continental breakfast . The Staff went way above and beyond what i expected to make our first trip to the city great . We look a tour to Halong Bay through the hotel which was great. Even when we decided to do Sapa on our own, he provided us with a bunch of useful information . Plus, this hotel has turned me on to all the great boutique hotels that are part of Old Quater like the Hanoi Grand Hotel.
