Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The room was larger than we expected - actually there were two rooms, so it was more like a suite - and very comfortable. We enjoyed the enormous buffet breakfast in the rooftop dining area as well as cooling off in the rooftop pool after a long, hot day of seeing the city. The Rex is centrally located so we were able to walk to many nearby sights and restaurants. It's clean and charming - we had a great stay!

Luxury hotel beautiful and well maintained hotel surrounded with luxury branded brand you feel like 🤑. The room is clean, aircon is good, they clean and make your bed everyday, comfy bed. Buffet restaurant is good lots of choices but most of them cold unless you have cook freshly food. The rooftop have excellent view of the city. Easy walking to nearby shopping Center. Excellent location. Restaurant some staff still can’t speak English for 5 star hotel they should encourage their staff to speak English while working, reception staff speak well and comprehend English very well, very caring when my husband had skin tear the reception checked on him and ask him if he need a medical service. And when we have problems with taxi which their staff recommended they sort things out very quickly. 👍 that’s good service for me.

Serious safety incident
If a "happy ending" is not your idea of something that should be offered during a massage at the spa of a reputable hotel, then don't stay at the Rex Hotel, Saigon. My spouse had to decline the offer several times during his massage and then left. I had hoped to not have to write this review, but my attempts to reach management have gone unanswered which I must assume either means they accept this practice or turn a blind eye. It's difficult to rate any other features of this hotel as this experience polluted our time there. For the record, it is technically illegal in Vietnam.

We went to the Rex to view it and have a beer at the bar with a view to booking a room. The rooftop bar service was non existent. We were directed to a table and then ignored for 10 mins. We then left and are staying at the Hotel Saigon majestic again, where the service is impeccable, as usual.

Visited the roof bar only - The famous 'Cigar Bar'. Enjoyed great service (very attentive) and good atmosphere, as families and couples enjoyed themselves in a relaxed atmosphere. We enjoyed ourselves so much we stayed for supper too, which while not memorable was reasonably priced.

The hotel is beautiful on the outside with a great location, but the rooms are not great. I wouldn’t give the rooms a five star rating. Tow of our rooms had to be changed because they didn’t have hot water, but we got hot water in the end. The hotel management did rectify this problem and tied to make sure we were happy. Still the furniture is super old and the rooms smell musty, and they recommend that you keep the AC on. The staff is super friendly and the hotel has some interesting history, but I would just visit and not sleep here next time.

I arranged for an airport hotel pick up and the hotel charged me $50. Which I thought was very expensive. When we landed and left the airport there is lots of taxi options . We were going back to the airport 5 days later and we got a metered taxi outside the hotel and the cost was $6. When we first arrived at the hotel we felt if was very efficient but not friendly no words of welcome etc This was our 5th hotel in Vietnam 🇻🇳 and it was the worst check in experience . The hotel room was excellent as was the breakfast and food on the roof top.

First impressions on entering this venue was the amount of staff standing around doing nothing much.... various people in different coloured uniforms. The many staff (far too many) behind front desk were helpful enough and when we checked in we were quietly taken to sit at a table behind reception where we asked about payment arrangements. All a little creepy! Anyway after a wasted hour, we were finally taken to our Rex Suite The room was spacious with a small sitting area, and huge huge bed which was extremely +++ comfortable ... like sleeping on a feather bed! The room had a weird lighting system by ways of a box with various buttons on the beside table, wired so that individual lights could be switched on/off.. but dear readers, whoever wired this thing up must have had a brain seizure as it clearly didn't work as intended.. most infuriating and a giggle at the same time.. lights on lights off and then another button which turned ALL the power off.. not great when trying to charge a phone.. The bathroom was spacious and clean with a walk-in shower as requested. The usual condiments consisting of shower gel, shampoo and shower cap were all present together with toothbrushes and a disposable razor. The towels were lovely also. Breakfast in the main large restaurant was an experience! All sorts on offer... including a selection of eggs cooked to order by a sweet little guy. Plenty of choices to be had, lovely bread, rolls, toast, juices, fruits It was all wonderful! And contrary to what someone on TA had said that there was "only Vietnamese food available" this wasn't so at all! Dinner on the first night was in another of the hotel's restaurants - the name of which I can't recall, but it overlooked the street this was because there was a big (and wonderfully noisy 🥳) birthday party in the Rooftop Bar. We ventured up there for a drink whilst watching the world go by down below on a very very crowded street. Dinner the second night was at a little table overlooking the street below - we had a lovely meal and a nice bottle of red (birthday 🎉) The service was excellent So... all in all.. if we ever ended up in HCMC again, would we go back? I guess not, not because it wasn't nice, but because there are other places and venues to explore.. Thank you for a memorable stay and thank you also for the lovely and yummie - very yummie! - birthday cake!

Well located and long established. Strange complex, appears to cover several joined buildings. Nice entrance foyer and lobby/reception area but my room was rather plain and follows through a bit of a maze to get there from the elevator. From this point I think it comprises several buildings taken over through the years to add to the original hotel. So it depends if the “grandeur” continues as you leave the grand reception area if you are allocated adjoining building room. Service experience was good but strangely this was the only hotel on my trip where they wanted the actual visa rather than sighting the entry stamp in the passport. Keep it handy even if it’s the end of your trip. The reception staff in particular were very friendly and helpful and I thank and acknowledge them. Nice pool (good size for a little swim - not just a plunge pool) and bar area and breakfast room. As a good gym, good variety of equipment for a hotel gym even tough it was all a bit dated. A bit pricey and you can get better value for your money if it’s just a short stay but if you want to treat yourself then it’s a very nice choice. Enjoyed my experience and will return.

Disappointed with the hotel room itself. Great location but very tired room which had not been cleaned properly from the previous visitors. No window that could open or even look outside as it faced the main walkway and everyone going past could see in with the curtains open. Light switches were bizarre. All on one keyboard. One named “entrance” was for the wardrobe area?!? Staff great at breakfast with a wide variety of food but not great quality. Wouldn’t recommend. Stay somewhere else in District 1.
