I stumbled across this hotel on a bike trip to Hue. The lady who worked there was keen to show me the room and was very friendly.
The room was basic but clean. It included air con, tv and hot shower which all worked fine. A close walk to the bar and restaurants. For the price it also included breakfast.

If you are on a small budget and want somewhere which is clean and comfortable for your money I would recommend this hotel.

Hotel staff friendly and helpful. Hotel a bit tired looking but clean enough, we also had breakfast included as we booked through hostel world. Rooms are good size although a little damp, probably because of the constant rain in January. We would stay here again.

Bigger rooms, better bathrooms, cheaper & quieter than the backpacker places. Clean. Kind helpful staff. Two minutes to the backpacker hostels area & the walking street. Secure motorcycle parking. Good breakfast. Good pho.

When we first went out from the hotel after checking in, they made us to leave the key at the reception.
Than when we got back to the room a 100$ was missing. And of course suddenly no one knows English and there is no one to talk to.
After check out we asked if we could leave our bags in a locked room because we had a night bus and we wanted to have lunch before it, and they didn't let us! They said they had no rooms available even though the hotel was empty!
Very rude lying people.

It looks like organized robbery. Keep away from this hotel. 100$ stolen in the afternoon out of the locked room. We where strongly requested to leave the key at reception before going to town. When returning the money was taken. It was in wallet in a big bag.

Everything looked as a planned show procedure. The lady on the foto behind the desk is responsible and clever. After complaining the loss a show with police and endless discussion was initiated. It was not Hollywood but Vietnam. No chance get it back. We did not pay the room and carried on.

Keep away from this place.

Like it happened with a lot of other people, who have reportet their negative experiences with the Phuong Hoang - Phoenix Hotel in Hue, there was a moderate amount of money, that has been stolen from me during my stay in this hotel.

After we have asked the owner about some information about the forbidden city in Hue we started our tour there. Before that I have hidden my second wallet (which I brought for exactly that purpase) with about 150$ in it under my bed and under my clothes, closed all the doors and made sure that the locks are working.

The owner then askes us why we don't leave the key with her, she would take care of it and give it back to us, when we come back. Of course she knew that our tour to the forbidden city would take several hours and when I came back I didn't notice at first, but later I checked my money in my second wallet and there:
About 70 $ and 10 € have been gone. The wallet was still there, as were the other 80$. AND the AC was not on anymore, so somebody WAS in our room.

When I asked the owner about people who have been in the room she suddenly didn't know what was going on and her english suddenly became extremely bad. I knew that it was too late and I couldn't do anything to proof the theft.

The doors have still been locked, so it was not possible that somebody has entered the room WITHOUT a key.

This actually ruined my whole stay in Hue and it has been the only moment during my whole Vietnam visit, when I felt criminal energy, which makes me especially sad, because most of the people there are awesome.

As for the Phuong Hoang - Phoenix Hotel: The owner and her staff are criminals that are systematically stealing money from decent guests, who just want to enjoy their visit.

DON'T GO THERE, if you don't want to loose money and have a very negative memory of beautiful Hue.

On arrival in Hue we found the hotel had the best deal going, 5 USD/night/person in a 3 bed private ensuite room + breakfast.

The following day we were out for most of the day. We were required to leave our keys at the hotel reception (thus staff knew when we were out). On return our room had been cleaned and an iPod Touch and a very small amount of money was missing.

The lady on reception was very friendly, breakfast was great, but the experience was tainted. I personally would stay away.

I'll preface this by saying I could have been smarter, but they still took advantage of us in a sneaky way. We checked in at around 2 or 3 in the afternoon and went for a walk at 4. I thought that since we arrived so late, we didn't need to worry about maids or anyone else coming into the room, so I left most of our valuables around the room (we'd just gotten off a 20-hour bus ride so I was kind of tired). My wallet was sitting on the nightstand with about $50 USD and $4 million VND in cash. When we got back we noticed that $20 USD and $1 mil. VND were missing (I'm pretty careful with our cash and there was too much missing for it to have been lost by accident).

We asked the receptionist if anyone had been to our room and she said that her 'friend had gone in to check the electricity'. We told her that we were missing $70 USD and she seemed confused and said that we must be mistaken. She called her friend and told us that her friend didn't take it (which I sort of laughed at since if he had stolen from us he wouldn't admit it). In any case, there was nothing we could do since we had no proof.

As far as the room went, we had a double bed private. The bed was lumpy but manageable and there was urine on the floor of the bathroom when we entered. It's definitely not a secure place to stay if you have valuables. We're angry and disappointed, but trying not to let this experience taint our time in Vietnam. Still, I'd advise you look elsewhere before staying here.

Cleanliness : average, bathroom was leaking and warm water only for short time. Bad smell
Price: 12$ /night
Service : bad. Trying to sell you constantly bad quality deals, don't book with them.
Someone entered my room, but I ALWAYS take my valuables close to my body. So no stealing I personally can complain about.
Laundry : took 24h longer than promised.
Breakfast : very basic x'-D

I'd take an other hotel!
