9 of us booked rooms in this hotel for a night through our agent in India. We reached a house in a small lane. We were informed by the staff there that it wasn't The Saffron and that we were moved to this house! So we decided to go elsewhere. Our agent was stunned when informed about the chaos. We met another family on this trip who went through similar predicament. They had booked their stay at The Saffron through Make my trip and they too were sent to this house! So guys be careful when you book this hotel.

First the positive things: - They were flexible with breakfast. We had to leave at 6am and they packed us some sandwiches etc. to take with us. - Dinner was delicious, but it took very long to prepare (over 1 hour). So order early! - Air conditioning and TV were ok - Internet connection was better than in many places we visited in Sri Lanka. The negative issues: - The Bookings.com price was in USD and they counted it in Sri Lankan Rupees with a higher exchange rate than our previous hotel on the same day. This we considered pretty unfair and had the impression they just wanted to make even more money on us!! - Also the offered transfer price to the airport (4500 Sri Lankan Rupees) was a lot more expensive then the one we got from our driver (3000 Sri Lankan Rupees). - The mattresses were very thin and the beds uncomfortable and noisy. - The bath room was tiny and had seen its' best days... Our room was upstairs and had to take a couple of stairs, so be careful with small children!

After having stayed here, I think that I'd be inclined to call the hotel a guest house just due to it's size. It is small but very friendly and comfortable. It is certainly tucked away in a residential area so I would have the cab call for directions otherwise it will be challenging to find. We arrived at 0200 due to a late plane but the owner met us and took us to our rooms which we thought was very nice. Breakfast was tasty and hit the spot after a long day of travelling. The rooms are comfortable and air conditioned which was great after a day of touring the city. I took it down a notch as the bathroom was a bit old and the shower was quite chilly as the hot water disappeared as soon as the taps were turned on. Apart from that, it is a nice quiet little place that is perfect if you're looking for a reasonably priced hotel off of the beaten track.

I am in love with the location, you do not know you are in a city at all, it is quiet, even rural feeling with the river and its lively bird heaven! The owners have become friends, they are kind and very helpful, also their staff. All my wishes were fulfilled here, I felt completely at home and enjoyed a deeply restful time in this friendly house. I loved to be greeted by the calling of the falcon in the early morning, and visited by ever nimble squirrels hushing about on the balcony! Also made friends with 2 cute rabbits and a turtle who live in the garden which is looked after with so much loving care! In Colombo this hotel is my home! Thank you, Dilrukshi and Anthony!

This is the best place i stayed , i was in colombo since for 4 days and last day i checked in this hotel which was little far from moumt lavinia but actually very good , there is only one draw back as the airport is very far from this hotel and takes 3500/- rs from this place to airport . the owner of this boutique hotel is very good , when i entered the room i felt i was in mid century old heritage classic design bedroom which is found in palaces only . it was a great experience .. sharing some of the pics with this review. Tips :- By Tuk Tuk : Hotel to Galle Face Hotel road Price :- 400 Rs Srilankan INR By Tuk Tuk :- Hotel to Airport Price 3500/- Rs Srilankan INR By Tuk Tuk :- Hotel to Mount Lavinia Price :- 350/- Srilankan INR By Lion Cabs :- Negombo to Hotel is 2766/- Srilankan INR

My wife, our two children (aged 8 and 6), and I stayed at this hotel from September 23-25. The hotel is quite nice, and our third floor room was very good. BREAKFAST - The breakfasts were pretty good (toast, eggs, sausages, coffee, etc.), and you can either eat it in outdoor, covered restaurant downstairs or ask to have it brought up to your room or the common area on your floor with tables, chairs, etc. STAFF. Overall, the staff was friendly and helpful. When we first arrived, however, there was no staff person anywhere. It took a few minutes to find the hardworking and kind housekeeper (maid) who telephoned someone for me to speak to. I would find our later this person on the phone (the manager, perhaps) was away due to a funeral. Other staff, that I would come to see, were very helpful. One even helped arranged a metered tuk-tuk for a 30-minute trip to the Mount Lavinia Beach (just 311 SLR) LOCATION. Although it is situated in a quiet, peaceful area, the hotel was difficult to find. Out of all of the tuk-tuks who took us around Colombo during our three-day stay, only one could come close to finding it without our assistance. Overall, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably-priced hotel in Colombo.

I have just returned from a very enjoyable, if exhausting short research trip to Colombo. The hotel arranged my transport from the airport and welcomed me on arrival at about 4:30 in the morning. The room was comfortable, with good WiFi which matters, with a decent selection of food. But the best part was just how friendly and accommodating all the staff were; thanks for that. The downsides were that it was a bit tricky to find, and they do not serve beer, but these were more than offset by the quiet location and the ability to host meetings as necessary in the outside restaurant area. I will be staying there again on my next trip to Sri Lanka... that's not a bad recommendation!
