Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Despite booking months in advance the hotel cancelled my booking a couple of weeks before I was due to stay. Luckily I found alternative homestay which was excellent and that’s where I’ll be staying on all future visits.

my friend and me stayed for 1 night in colombo in the palm nest. our flight landed very late so the lady of the bnb organised a pickup for us. unfortunately she mixed up the dates of our arrival and when we arrived nothing was ready so at 3am we had to wait nearly 40 min for our room. the house is really cosy and clean. well designed and taken care off. yet after going to bed only at 3 am, in the morning there was a lot of noise and from 7 to 9.30 nobody seemed to care about the guests that arrived late. we got up at 10 and the house was empty as the lady had an appointment early morning. we took an uber to the center which is 30-40 min drive away due to traffic. so the location is not ideal. besides the fact that we had to wait for our room and the noise the lady was not really friendly and tried to charge extra for an instant coffee +banana (she considered that breakfast) and another half day stay (we left our bags from 11 -20pm in the bnb but where out). all in all a clean place with a cute look but very far from the center with lacking attention to the guests. I would not return.

Response from anomi_desilva, Owner at Palm Nest
Responded 26 Aug 2018
Hi Julie.. Thanks for your review on what you experienced at Palm Nest.. - Even if I arranged your pick up at 3 am, I was mixed up with the date since you had booked previous night due to very late arrival. I am so sorry for that but I managed to give you the room ready in 30 minutes. - Since the breakfast was not included to the room rate I had to charge a small amount extra for what you had. This was discussed with you and agreed to pay extra by you. - Due to arrival of other guests early morning, after few hours of your arrival, you would have disturbed little bit. I am sorry for that. - Further I allowed you to leave the bags in the room until in the evening, even if the guests check out time is at 12pm without any extra payment on your request. But both of you didn't turn up till 8 pm and I had to take your bags out in order to keep the room ready for my other guests. Hope you would have appreciated that. - Further by looking at the travellers reviews I have got from my guests up to now, its easy to get an idea about Palm nest and its friendly and caring service and also food. - stay safe on your travels. Warm regards Anomi

Clean, comfortable and a peaceful home to return to after a long day. Anomi and Vipul are both welcoming and helpful. Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac, once located it is easy to find and there is parking available outside, if required. Good food (especially the Seeni Sambol) and laundry delivery services add to the pleasant and hassle free experience. And for those interested in exploring the historic area where Palm Nest is located (by foot also) and the country also, Vipul will have many valuable tips.

We only stayed one night - arrived late and left early, so hard to comment in detail. Nice clean room, very helpful and friendly owners. It was a little way from the center but no problem by tuk tuk. Recommended.

I stayed at Palm Nest for 3 nights and the experience was excellent. Hosts were very helpful and provide great Sri Lankan food. Room was very clean all the required facilities were there. Location isn't too far from the city and they have contacts with reliable local taxis. Vipul knows a lot about travelling around SL and would be happy to assist with lots of tips. Anomi is attention to detail and ensured I was as comfortable as I can be. The key is the hosts are more than happy to engage with me when required. I would definitely stay at Palm Nest during my next visit.

We had such a warm welcome despite arriving early in the morning, and we were shown to our lovely comfortable room to catch up on some much needed sleep. House is very modern and stylish - a nice place to rest and recuperate with a few books & games available, tea and chitchat. BUT this is a long way out from Colombo and the sights; 1000-1500R by tuktuk or 2 buses (not a difficult journey but takes about an hour). There are some nice parks & lakes around the government building more locally which are good for a stroll.

Stayed here for two nights. Host Mrs. Anoma is really nice and welcoming. She guided me well about places in the Colombo. During the first night of my stay hosts were not home during Sri Lankan new year, but Mrs. Anoma made all arrangements so that I get a comfortable place to sleep once I land in Colombo. She also went ahead and arranged a taxi on my request, which I really appreciate. Their associated tuk-tuk driver Sanjeeva is also so helpful and humble. Homestay is located in posh area in Colombo neighbourhood and is really so clean, airy and modern. I loved the designing in the common sitting room. Highly recommended.

I stayed there for 6 more nights after my wife went ahead of me to Maldives. The owners are very accommodating. The house is very nice, with natural ventilation. It also happened that a movie scene was shot in the house the whole day of April 8. I had the oppurtunity to see Sri Lankan celebrity. Nice place, highly recommended.
