Tea trails is a resort over looking a lake and nestled into tea terraces. It has five small lodges spread among the tea plantation It is a Relais Chateau member
The rooms are airy and bright. The service is superb ; the chef cooks whatever the client wants and there are no extra charges for liquor, wine or laundry It is a must in Sri Lanka , an isle worth visiting.

We spend 3 nights at Ceylon Tea Trails, in the Castlereagh Bungalow, and absolutely LOVED our experience. The team at Ceylon Tea Trails goes out of their way to make you feel like you are staying at your home and not a hotel. While it might seem bizarre to not have a room key to your room (you can request one if you'd like), not locking the door and leaving it closed, similar to what you would do at home, made the trip feel that much more authentic. It genuinely felt like we were just staying at our home.
Every morning we woke up to the sound of the birds outside our window and incredible views of the river while we sat outside on the porch for breakfast. The lunch and dinner menus were discussed with us daily and the chef made sure to mix things up so that we could try all the different wonderful flavors of Sri Lankan food.
There was plenty to do at the bungalows to keep us active, be we also relished in the incredible tranquility and peace of the location and relaxed more so than we had on previous vacations. Each bungalow has a croquet court set up, so the afternoons were spent playing daily croquet matches with a drink in hand while watching the sunset.
The property is absolutely stunning and is full of rich history and culture, which we loved learning about during out stay. I've never experienced anything like Ceylon Tea Trails in any other hotel Ive ever stayed at and can not say enough wonderful things about the team and how welcome they truly make you feel during your stay. Do not hesitate to book this property, it it well worth it and more!

Two nights at this idyllic planters cottage built in 1888 was simply not enough. The house has 6 guest rooms and 5 were occupied when we stayed. The rooms are named after the planters who first inhabited them; we stayed in Meares. It feels as if you’re staying at a friend’s house with the communal sitting room, patio, and pool being the focal points of the property. It is the most luxe version of all inclusive- from the self-service bar cart to laundry service and the Dilmah Tea Factory tour. There are tennis and croquet courts, with all the accoutrement provided. We visited the Dunkeld and Summerville bungalows as well, which have very similar layouts, though both are newer constructions. Summerville has a 1950s vibe. The staff at Tientsin is responsible for our love of the property. Bandara, the head butler, leads his small team with perfect grace and a refined sense of hospitality. He made every wish and desire we had seem as if it was anticipated, and executed it with a smile. The friendly chef, Sohan, will join you at the end of your meal to discuss your next. He may recommend a meal, but also let’s you know that whatever you’d like to have will be possible. It’s really like having a private chef! Sohan went above and beyond when he phoned his mentor, the sous chef at Wild Coast Lodge where we stayed afterwards, to tell him about a soup we particularly liked while staying at Tientsin. That chef prepared his own version of the soup for us, and we received 5 star culinary treatment at Wild Coast purely on behalf of Sohan going the extra mile in customer service. A special shout out to the rest of the incredible staff who welcomed us while at the property - Umesh, Samantha, Pradeep, and Kumara. Tea Trails Tientsin was our favorite hotel during our 2 week stay in Sri Lanka.

Massive, beautiful rooms (think Downton Abbey — Sri Lanka branch), private gardens, stunning views, bespoke dining, service that envelops you. Each stay comes with a tour of the nearby tea factory. (Recommended) We were at the Dunkeld House, which is a 10 minute walk from the tea factory, and has stunning views. Each of the houses is a bit different. Be sure to have lunch or tea at one of the other houses. They will drive you there and back...some are walkable. There are various activities from which you can choose (cost extra) such as kayaking on the reservoir, boating, massage, trips to nearby sites. Stay here and you’ll think the Raj never ended. (NB: Hot water can be spotty in the wee hours.)

My husband and I traveled to Sri Lanka from the United States for our honeymoon. From the moment we arrived in Colombo, we were captivated with the country's beauty, tranquility and diversity. Of all of the amazing places we visited during our stay, Ceylon Tea Trails was absolutely the premiere accommodation. The entire staff was extremely professional, helpful and kind. We loved the personal service they provided, making us feel like we were their most cherished guests.

We soaked in the daily morning swims in the pool and the incredible views over the lake. As visitors from afar, we both wanted to soak in as much of the Sri Lankan culture as we could. The staff ensured we had the opportunity to taste all of the delicacies of the Sri Lankan cuisine. The food was truly better than anything we had ever tasted in the United States, and my husband used to work in the dining business!

We stayed in the Master's Cottage. We loved all of the amenities and touches of the home. The small details such as the hot water bottles in the bed at night, the big band music in the room each evening after Afternoon tea, and the cleanliness and service to our cottage made all of the difference. I adored the spa treatments and my husband loved the full bar service in the room.

We would very highly recommend Ceylon Tea Trails to anyone traveling to Sri Lanka - whether coming locally or coming from afar. It truly is one of the most magnificent resorts in all of South Asia.

Thank you Rebecca for choosing Sri Lanka and Tea Trails for your honeymoon. Your generous praise for Sri Lanka is much appreciated. The country offers a continent's worth of attractions in a small island the size of Ireland. Thanks again and warm wishes, Malik

Where do I begin....

Tea Trails has been on Our list of must visit hotels in SL for awhile and boy am I glad we did visit.

Nestled in the Bogawantalawa estate are 5 bungalows and a cottage with fabulous food, service, views and staff. Everything you need during a holiday! Each Bungalow sports its own charm, there's a different view and landscape to them all teamed with some brilliant staff.

We had the privilege of visiting all of them and stayed in the Owner's Cottage which is by far our favorite! The owners cottage is perfect for a couple. Extremely private, perched on a higher elevation from the Dunkeld Bungalow with a fabulous view of the lake as well as the tea plantation. You have your own heated Jacuzzi (this was my fav), a large bedroom and walk in closet, living and dining space, a master en suite bathroom with two tubs and an outdoor Veranda.

With so much to do we had a packed three night stay ending our day with an amazing massage which is also included in their fully inclusive price. Given our stays in their other properties I think this one has been the most value for money, breathtaking in terms of your surrounding and so much more fun! You MUST try the Planters Lunch perched in a beautiful little hut with the best view you could imagine.

If you've been contemplating the visit.... DON'T! Its a trip you'll never forget

Ceylon Tea Trails is consisted of 5 bungalows, each has dining room, living room, library, and different kinds of rooms like twin room, suites. Dining menus are same in every bungalow, just cooked by their own chefs. Every bungalow has its own style, and every room is different. But service is same top quality. What you only need to do is choose the environment you like.

I accommodated in Dunkeld Bungalow this time, which I think is the best best one!

Butler:
My butler, Mr. Janaka, very helpful, friendly, considerate, and professional, making my stay like home, and that’s what he said also, “it’s your second home”. Service is highlight, really.

All inclusive rate:
This all inclusive resort included tea factory tour, maps for hiking, which has amazing views, wines, drinks, afternoon tea, 3 meals, and even laundry. After 6 km hiking, we came back and put the sports clothes into laundry basket, getting rid of washing clothes when we’re really exhausted. Really made me feel heartwarming, better than home!

Room:
Room in Dunkeld Bungalow is spacious. Some bungalows have smaller room, but all unique decorated and clean and comfortable.

Cuisine:
very delicate and delicious!

Facility:
Heated jacuzzi so comfortable!

We had an amazing stay at Ceylon Tea Trails, It is an excellent and beautiful place. The service, lodges, food and spirits were great. We stayed here from March 15 to March 18 (3 nights). We had a good drive from Colombo Airport, however could not stop on the way due to covid restrictions. We had a splendid 3 and a half day relaxation. The bungalow Dunkled we stayed in had an excellent room with private garden along with service by our own personal chef and butler. The good part about premises is that you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner at any location within the hotel, where they set the table and any meal you want is cooked by the chef. Food quality was superb, along with breakfast selection and hi-tea. There is also a huge lake below the hills around the tea garden, where you can go fishing, even though I tried but had no luck. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to chill and enjoy peace even though its a little steep in price. We would definitely return back after couple of years when the covid restrictions are over.

We stayed at Norwood bungalow for three nights during Avurudu holidays and had experienced the perfect relaxation enjoying the vast immaculate gardens and gorgeous mountain views and the best hospitality any Sri Lankan hotel has to offer. This was our second visit to Ceylon Tea Trails within four months. Our first visit to Castlereah bungalow was so splendid that we couldn’t wait to return. The very first holiday we had this year all three of us wanted to visit Norwood as we expected that we wouldn’t be disappointed. Everything about our stay at Norwood bungalow exceeded our expectations from the warm welcome when we arrived to the close attention to detail concerning every aspect of our stay - meals, hikes laundry to housekeeping- we couldn’t have asked for more.
Norwood bungalow has amazing mountain views with expansive gardens. The room we stayed, Hazel master suite was cozy spacious and really comfortable with a large bathroom. You can experience the best morning view from the private garden at sunrise.
The meals served anytime of the day were exceptionally tasty. As the chef meet us and discusses the meal options we always had the meal according to our preferences. It was wonderful to see the new year table with Sri Lankan spread although we were the only Sri Lankan guests at the time.
During our stay we enjoyed a mountain hike and visits to Tientsin bungalow and Dunkeld bungalow. We got to experience the wonderful hospitality of Sanjaya and his staff at Dunkeld when we had our afternoon tea there.
Every single aspect of our holiday at Norwood bungalow was amazing but what stood out most was the the extraordinary service and hospitality from the staff. Nilantha and the team are so genuine and caring and made us feel really special by attending to all our needs including my request for tea at early hours. They are warm and friendly and willing to go an extra mile to make your stay comfortable and homely. My thanks to Nilantha , Nesa , Ajith and Weerasooriya for making our stay perfect with the best hospitality.

Thank you Subhani. So happy that your second visit to Tea Trails was so enjoyable. Nilantha and his passionate team delight in pampering guests and because each bungalow has only a few rooms, service is very personalised. How lovely that you hiked to two of the other bungalows Dunkeld and Tientsin, you only missed Summerville. Perhaps you might stay at one of them on your next visit?! Warm wishes Malik

Nestled in a picturesque tea plantation is a series of bungalows called Ceylon Tea Trails. Your stay is all inclusive from your laundry to cocktails to five meals a day if you are hungry enough. The accommodation is ultra-luxurious and each bungalow has its own butler, chef, housekeeper and wait staff. Swim in the infinity pool, walk through the tea plantations and admire the tea pickers or simply take in the incredible scenery from your private balcony. This will be a stay you will never forget. Very highly recommended.
