We began our holiday in Srilanka with a 2 day stay in Richmond house hotel Colombo. The location was on a busy road but all 5 rooms are at the back of the hotel so there was no noise in the rooms. Central location close to shops and supermarket. Service and staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included and was very filling with lots of vhoice. Great place to begin your Srilankan holiday.

The property is located in a very busy suburb 8 km from the city centre When we first arrived at Richmond House, we were ushered into a makeshift office next to the garage and attended to by a friendly man. The house has 5 rooms distributed on 3 floors. Our room was on the 2nd floor, which is shared with an international education advisory office. The room was surprisingly spacious and clean. Wifi was good, air-con worked well and water pressure in bathroom was good. The staff are friendly and attentive. We had to leave for the airport at 6.30am and they obliged us with a full local breakfast. All staff were in attendance, good service. We even caught the sunrise from the breakfast area! This place is good for a short stay.

Service: We used this property as an overnight halt after our late night arrival in Colombo and we had to leave for Mirissa the very next day. We reached the property late, around 12 AM and there ware no hiccups/confusion in the check-in process. We were served an amazing breakfast at the attic by the caretaker that included eggs, sausages, crispy bacon etc. The manager was also very sweet and pulled some strings to help us get an International driver's license. Rooms: We stayed in the presidential suite and it had a twin jacuzzi. The room was huge, it had 4 beds, two single and one double. It also had a sitting area towards the entrance of the room. I will recommend this accommodation to all sorts of travelers. Thank you management for a lovely stay.

Loved: -Polite, attentive (yet never obtrusive) service -Delicious meals. We enjoyed both our dinner and breakfast, especially the delicious curd and honey. -Location: Just facing a supermarket Disliked: -Nothing! Maybe some common space to chill like a lobby would be nice, but that's really just a quibble.

I have stayed in the Richmond House Kandy twice in 2011 and posted a review which was read by many. This is my 2nd trip to Sri Lanka and I was glad to know that Richmond House has a hotel in Colombo now. Saw that the reviews are good so I decided to book. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy my stay due to several reasons. I was being informed by my driver that most international flights to Colombo arrived in the wee hours so I need not worry about check-in at 3am in the morning. Upon arrival at Richmond House, no one came to open the shutter for about 10-15 minutes despite being informed in advance and reminded. Our driver called the hotel several times but was unable to get through. Finally, after several attempts, a staff answered but it took a while for him to come down. The staff brought our luggage to the room and we were being informed to check in the next day. One time in the morning, staff did not open the shutter and I have to exit the hotel using the side gate as my driver could not drive in. Speaking of check-in, we did not do it until the day before check out. Reason being we could not figure out where is the Reception. There was a sign at the ground level pointing to the back of the building but we saw that the units were occupied by some other businesses. We looked at the hotel’s plaque indicating the rooms & restaurant but it did not state “Reception”. Perhaps hotel should consider adding the information onto the plaque. Breakfast choices & taste were poor. I usually don’t complain about breakfast during my travels because once, I ate the same breakfast for 19 days (it’s not a big hotel so no huge buffet spread) when I was in China and never got sick of it. By the way, my stay here was only 4 days. There was a list of local breakfast items but they were never available. One evening, the staff called and informed that they will send breakfast to our room because there is some minor renovation taking place in the restaurant. It was a nice gesture but breakfast was late (I called to remind), food & drinks were not wrapped/covered and the trolley was dusty. Room was spacious but unfortunately, the furniture & finishes (especially in the bathroom) have lots of rough & pointed edges. Bed sheet were worn out and torn. Pillows are old and out of shape. Furniture was dusty. Bed frame with canopy was broken. I have to call and remind Reception to send housekeeping to clean the room and change the towels. It was kind of noisy during our stay. Perhaps not the hotel’s fault but there was noise from room next door and room above us. Perhaps hotel should consider adding felt or studs to the bottom of the furniture so that it reduces noise when guest drag the furniture. Location wise, convenient as Keells supermarket is directly opposite and it’s a short walk (10 – 15 mins) to some shopping & fast food. Staff’s attitude (sad to compare), in comparison to the hotel in Kandy, are miles apart except for one gentleman (in a different color top as the rest) whom we met just before we check out. Hope the hotel can step up and be on par with Richmond House Kandy.

Well equipped rooms with friendly and professional staff that care about your well-being. Nicely located on the edge of town, an easy tuk tuk ride to plenty of places to see. We had 5 nights in cleaned rooms and evening meals freshly cooked at a very reasonable price.
