My friend, David, and I once again had the wonderful experience of staying at the Hotel Han. Everything was still as exceptional as it was last year. In fact, the Hotel Han experience is so interesting and full of fun that you might choose to just 'hand around' instead of seeing more of the marvels of Istanbul. Last year, 2015,...

For a couple on a budget it's perfect, affordable, great location only a minute walk from Hagia Sophia and the tram line so you can get public transport from the airport. The room was fine, staff friendly and a lovely breakfast every morning to set you up for the day.

My companion, David, and I stayed at Hotel Han for 8 nights at the end of May. The rooms are adequate with a good Turkish breakfast and excellent location. The manager could not be more charming and helpful. There was an unfortunate incident at the end of our stay, which I have recorded elsewhere. Overall, our stay here could not...

Friendly staff and a very good, very genuine home-style Turkish breakfast with excellent fresh coffee collude with an exceptional location just meters aways from Hagia Sophia and the Cisterns for what could ... or should be an exceptional small hotel. I have a very mixed filings about our stay. First thing I need to say that the location is outstanding and stuff is great. In the very hear of Sultanahmet, less than 5 minutes to the trolley and major attractions. I felt really safe coming back home late at night. The hotel has an excellent restaurant on the first floor....

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.

“Rooms are small, so best room would be 101.”
 of 5 bubbles 21091959, 14 Oct 2014 | Read review
“Definitely make sure you get a room looking out to the front, and avoid 214! The rooms certainly do not look (any more) like they do online ... and contrary to the hotel website, there was neither a 'pitcher of water' nor a mini-bar in the room (there was a small empty fridge, which is also fine, if that is in fact what is advertised as coming with the room.)”
  • Superfice has overtaken quality.
  • Lamps that don't light don't need a dimmer.
  • Clunky furniture ... robbing space and more in the way than useful.
  • Charming balcony with a view to ... ehmmm, nothing.

“We have the corner (smaller but) quieter room. We slept with white noise and almost heard nothing. Our friends who had the bigger room facing main street, was kept awaken by random dogs barking during the first night but other nights were ok.”
