I stayed here at the start of my travels and the staff and hotel was lovely. It's just behind the four seasons hotel and couldn't be easier to hop on and off the tram. The room was large with a nice view over the water (from a few blocks away) and the little breakfast room at the top was really...

Pleasant, clean, rooms. Nice, helpful staff, good breakfast, good location. Important for people with allergies to know: Building had a fresh, clean, NOT sythetically perfumed, smell, which means no molds in the structures. (Which is a common problem for people with respiratory diseases when traveling.) Also no smell of cigarettes, and the bed linen was washed with unperfumed detergent, thank...

Four of us (my husband, myself, sister and friend) spent 10 nights at the Terrace Guesthouse in June and really enjoyed our stay. The owner, Dogan, and receptionist, Kemal, were there to welcome us to the guesthouse, make suggestions for restaurants, advise us on ferry times, arrange airport transportation, or just chat about Istanbul. A delicious breakfast of fresh bread,...

We stayed at the Terrace Guesthouse in 2009 and 2010 for 4 nights each time. The first time was for sightseeing and cultural experience and the second time on our way back from India because of the volcanic ash disruption. Both times the staff were friendly, helpful and warm. Coming back the second time in a really shocked state, the...

We felt welcomed immediately to this small guesthouse in the heart of Sultanhamet. 5 minute walk from Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sofia, and the Blue Mosque. Dogan and his staff are so extremely helpful, and attended to our every need, even to the point of writing down restaurant information and writing down public transportation directions. There was a club nearby that...

This small hotel is located across the street from the 4Seasons-hotel, has rooms with the most wonderful view of Istanbul, its well known historic buildings and the Coastline - no better place to start from and a wonderful host (Dogan) who will supplement your guidebook with advice and assistance - highly recommended (nice and warm rooms in chilly December -...

We stayed here for four nights in a room with a private balcony overlooking the entrance to the Bosphorus and its parade of ships. The room was charming and comfortable, the bed and shower was great at the end of the day, and the only problem was trying to decide between the balcony view and the one from the rooftop...

My husband and I both aged 65 have just returned from staying for one week at the Terrace Guesthouse. We spent 5 nights in the delightful pine-panelled Room 8 on the 4th floor: fabulous views of the sea and the Blue Mosque and Aya Sophia. The breakfast terrace is right outside the door and there is a rooftop terrace up...

This is a good hotel with a carpet shop on the ground fl. Ideal location. Standard turkish breakfast (bread, eggs, olives and cheese) on the terrace with excellent views. Very friendly staff. Since our stay a few years ago we recommended this place to a number of friends and they all were very satisfied.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
