Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.

I had a very good five nights at Bankerhan. The room was immaculate with the exception of no easy chair and tea/coffee facilities. The staff were most friendly and helpful. I would be most happy to recommend this hotel, the airport service was most welcome.

Dear Guest, Our hotel is very closed to everywhere. Public transport are very closed to hotel. From down main street to hotel you should climb stairs. It could be difficult for your father, There is water in the room. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Kind regards, Zeynep İnanç General Manager

What is meant by providing a local transport card?
Yes, the 'Istanbul Kart' - you can buy it at the train station at the airport. You can just add money whenever you need and tap in when you use trains/metro/bus. For me, as I was walking a lot I used about 20 TL over 3 days.

Hi, How to get to your hotel using METRO or Tram?
You probably arrive at Ataturk airport. If so, you take the metro from airport (there is only one line in one direction, you cannot miss that) and get out at the Zeytinburnu station (I think this is the 6th after airport), change to the tram 1 in direction Kabatas and drive (takes about 40 minutes) to station Karakoy (you cannot miss that station because it is the first after crossing the sea at Golden Horn). From there you go into an under the stree passage, taking care to find the exit for the direction Galata, get out of the passage, pass a small buffet selling doner kebap, go up the nearest stairs and about the 10th stair or so turn from the stairs to the left and then 50 m further is the hotel. The walk from tram to hotel is about 5 min. There are some other ways to get to the hotel (changing to tram at another station, but then you have to walk more than at Zeytinburnu or going with just metro, but that means about 15 minutes walk in the end, and it is not faster than my version plus in mine you see a lot of the city from the tram :-)) If you come from the Sabiha airport I do not know how you get to the European side, but in the end you should get to the tram line 1 from one direction or another and take it to Karakoy. Hope this helps! FMB
