This hotel is located in what has now become the new hub in the city of Asunción. There are numerous shopping malls, restaurants and attractions nearby. At a cost of roughly $50 per night, I'd say it's not a bad deal. Other establishments (recognizably better) are two to three times more expensive. So Portal del Sol is comparatively speaking, a... Nice neighborhood with a few embassies around and about half a dozen blocks from a nice shopping mall. Quite a long way to downtown. I had a small and relatively dark room, but they're not all like that. Nice staff, buffet restaurant, and pool area.

My booking was changed for this place and it was ok place. Bit old, but room had lot's of space. Hot water and wifi worked. Breakfast was good and staff was helpful. Location was bit out of the center, if that's what you want.

The hotel is a little out of the way if you want to be near downtown Asuncion, but it is convenient to shopping and the Museo del Barro. The front desk personnel are extremely friendly and helpful and speak good English. It has an excellent restaurant for breakfast and dinner with a German flair - the desserts were absolutely amazing.... More

Excellent hotel in uptown Asuncion near Shopping del Sol. The front desk and restaurant staff are wonderful and speak good English and Spanish. The hotel amenities exceeded what I had expected. The rooms are well-maintained and unique, and the continental breakfast has something for everyone. If you're traveling to Asuncion, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better value!

I've been to portal del sol at least 8 times, the staff is always looking to satisfy you're needs. The hotel is located fairly close to the airport, and you have a shopping mal at a walking distance in a new district booming...but within the hotel, you don't feel in a big city, it's quiet, calm, with 2 small swimming... Stayed six days (not consequently) in three different rooms - two times on first floor, one time on 4th. In general, all them are Ok, only one was smaller. Furniture is not new, but rooms are clear. Personal is very friendly. Breakfast included into payment is good, different food is available. Dinner cost 33000 Guarani, should be ordered in advance... More

Recently stayed at this hotel while on a visit to Asuncion to see my girlfriend. Staff are friendly, helpful and really make you feel welcome. This hotel is situated in a convenient location, not too far from any of the major attractions, shopping centres or restaurants. The hotel is very clean and comfortable. Value for money, highly recommended...

Stayed here in November 2014 for the second time as it is near family. I think I will look into another hotel in the future. As my husband travels more often here we were given the "nicest room". In fact, it was really a"suite" since we had 2 bedrooms and bathrooms. Sounds nice, huh? Well there was a double bed... More

As the title of this review suggests, I'm a little torn. PRO: Nice helpful staff, pleasant plants in the courtyard, guard by the door, upscale neighborhood. CON: Ants in the bathroom and on the bed by the window. We didn't sleep on the ant bed because there were 4 beds. In fact, our room was so full of beds, we... More

“You might have more space in a smaller room than the 2 room suite we had. Upper floor rooms are better and there is an elevator.”

“ask for a quiet room; during my stay, I had a very quiet room on the second floor, but I have heard that there are more noisier rooms, too. Beds vary, too - I had a very good bed, however, I heard that some beds have very thin matraces (mine was excellent, though).”
