First impression on arrival was not, but minutes afterwards at check in everything turned out fine. Good general tourist info, handing out a good map of Honiara. Location quite street on a little hill - far enough from the noise, but close enough to the places of interest and center. Booked the shared bathroom room, toilet/shower clean, room comfortable, with... More

The guesthouse is basic but absolutely spotless - a team of ladies are cleaning all day and I saw them flip up the mattresses to clean the slats and stand on chairs to get to the upper window ledge - I have stayed in fancy hotels where I doubt they clean as well. Shared toilets and showers. A beautiful wide... More

Chester gets a bad rap in Lonely Planet, but all I can say was it was a great place to stay for 2 weeks when I first moved to Honiara. Of course relativity is everything. It's not flash but I found it clean, the Brothers while a bit shy were very helpful, it was comfortable, a great central location, lovely... More

I frequently travel to the Solomon Islands and almost always stay at Chester Rest House when in Honiara. It is run by an Anglican Religious Order (the Melanesian Brothers) and has a very relaxed and friendly ambience. Great views over Honiara and Iron Bottom Sound, though a fairly steep walk uphill from town. The accommodation is fairly basic, especially in... More

Upon arrival the guy behind the desk didn't even take the effort to give a nice hello and show me around. Instead just a wave and loud 'full'. The place was very dirty anyways. Don't waste time and money here!

Really excellent. Run by the Melanesian Brotherhood who are welcoming and very kind. This is by far the best place to stay in Honiara. The Brothers make you feel really welcome. There are great views from the balcony. Great polished wood floors. Clean and well looked after. Very convenient.

This is one of my two regular stopping places in Honiara. It offers twin rooms with shared bathrooms, as well as a common kitchen, sitting room and a big verandah where I love to watch the ships come and go at the wharf. There is also a new wing with en-suite rooms. The location is great, situated above the central... More

Very nice, welcoming, open-air and relaxed guest house. Rooms are clean, with ceiling fans. Shared shower and restrooms. Self-catering, common kitchen area to cook if you want, or just keep things in the fridge. The best (best) part of Chester House is the huge wrap around veranda overlooking the city and harbor.

I stayed twice in July 14 with a group of 7 while transiting Honiara. The Chester was clean, comfortable and convenient. The group had both twin share standard rooms and my wife and I had a self contained room. The rooms are spacious, the amenities basic but clean and well maintained. They have flyscreens and ceiling fans. Self contained rooms... More

Honiara is expensive, and the standard room on offer here is as cheap as it gets. The Resthouse is basic but very clean and tidy, with friendly housekeeping staff who will help you with your washing! The kitchen is very clean, and rules about no alcohol or betel but chewing are clear. The Brothers were friendly and helpful. This Resthouse... More
