Magic comes to life as the Shwedagon rises into the darkness of night. From the roof of the Beauty Land 1 Hotel, this sight is incredible.

The hotel is quite OK. The hosts are congenial, and the rooms are reasonably nice for Burmese standards. The breakfast was very nice, and included fresh fruit, tea or coffee, toast, eggs, and good basic stuff. Very pleasant little shelter to eat as well.

The location is excellent - close to the city, yet not in its congested, narrow streets. The proximity to the Shwedagon makes it easy to visit several times. On a one-day pass (if you check in advance before paying), you can re-enter. Seeing the Shwedagon again at night is absolutely breathtaking.

This very basic guesthouse was clean and had ok beds, towels soap, and nice breakfast. We payed 35 usd for a double, not very valuable. overpriced because of the touristboom in Myanmar. Dogfights and a early roster in the morning kept it awake too early.
Walk for 5 min and you are at schwedagon pagoda

Excellent location, close to Gan Daw Gyi and Shwe Dagon Pagoda. Even though it is a busy area, the hotel itself is in a tranquil lane close to some big embassies. The rooftop is a great place to switch off and take a rest from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is a family business so the staff are friendly and accommodating. They are good with kids.
Nice breakfast with good, strong coffee.

Bad experience on check in as they tried to charge me a 3.5% surcharge for using a credit card. Outside dining area closed. No garden that you can sit in just a few plants next to the driveway. Room very basic, no wardrobe just a hanging area. 2 pairs of dirty slippers left in room. The Good coffee they advertised was tasteless. Hated the restaurant food..

There were major renovations going on all day but that wasn't the issue. The owner only ever acknowledged us to ask for money: "laundry!" or "pay for tonight now!" on our second day there. Which was a surprise for us as every other hotel in Myanmar had opted for us to pay in one go at the end. Our room was not cleaned, we had to ask for towels, not little niceties like bottled water or even friendly banter on your way in or out. The TV did not work either. It was easily our most unpleasant hotel in Myanmar. Oh and they have two almost identical dogs, hot and tubby golden retrievers. One is super friendly, the other will growl and have a go. Sigh. We moved to... the marvelous Hotel 63!!

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights, only because we had already paid for it through a package and could not get our money back in order to go to another hotel. Our room with a double bed was so small that we could not open even one of our suitcases let alone two.

The shower head was so broken that you always had to have another person hold it upside down so that the water trickled on to your body (otherwise it would just trickle from the side, against the wall with no water ever touching you!)
The air conditioning worked well, however when it is on, it displays an extremely bright blue light which means you have to chose between being cool or being awake. We chose to have the air con on but we had to wrap a tshirt around our eyes during night time to be able to fall asleep.

The sheets, although seemed to have been washed, had many stains on them which appeared to be red.

When leaving, the receptionist approached us with a towel and stated that we had to pay for the towel because we had made it so dirty it would not be cleaned. We had, in fact, used the towel to dry the floor, but this was because the shower and the toilet were in the same space with nothing provided to dry your feet when you step back into the bedroom so I used one of the hand towels to avoid our tiny bedroom being flooded with water.

We left this hotel exhausted, having had no sleep and having had not one decent shower in 5 days!

The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful, cannot fault them. The hotel is a quiet back street area, walking distance off Bogyoke Park and close to Shwedagon Pagoda - excellent views of this from some rooms especially at night.

We booked a deluxe room based on photos and the promise of a contained shower in bath tub, rather than a wet room. The bathroom needs more work as the shower head is too low, and sprays water out of the bath, wetting the floor. A shower curtain is needed. The water pressure is weak for hot water, only lukewarm / cold water has enough pressure.

The king bed is just two twins pushed together - it needs a mattress topper to avoid the painful gap down the centre. Lastly, there is no bedside lamp or light, only the main bright ceiling light which is too fluorescent at night.

If these issues could be fixed, this would be a decent mid range hotel.
