The Hotel Yangon is showing its age and is poorly maintained. There was mould and cracked tiles in the bathroom. Our room had an air conditioner but no controller. There were limited recharge points, essential for the cameras and phones of the modern traveller. We had to leave early so we did not sample the breakfast. The hotel did provide a packed breakfast but it was rather unappealing. On the positive side, there was good wifi.

It is quite ok for the non-business trip, being located in the nice spot with abundant food shops of various ranges. Nearby mall and stores offer small necessities at convenience. Transport to the airport is easily manageable. Funny thing was no cup and saucer in the room but provided with electric kettle, forcing hot water poured into the glass to make coffee. Worst was the reception staff giving undue priority to certain international guests.

Positive things: the hotel staff are kind and helpful. The food in the dining room is excellent. It is close to a grocery store and a Pizza restaurant. It is also fairly close to the airport. The massage is outstanding and cheap… Just US$12 for one hour!!
Negative things: I had bedbug bites and they did not compensate me in anyway. This was unimpressive. The hotel is located at a very busy intersection so it's constantly noisy. The water is brownish-clear :(

At the start of the holiday the first night in the Yangon Hotel we were given a room on the 9th floor. I was surprised at the décor of this room it had lots of black mould on the walls and some things did not work. The room was very smelly and was obviously a smoker’s room. Also it seemed that some staff gathered in the main hall outside our room till late chatting, smoking & fdrinking which was not good I thought. We did not complain at this, don’t usually unless it’s very bad anyway!!

On the return visit to the Yangon Hotel were given a room on the 6th floor which was cleaner I must say. We were aware that the outside of the hotel was being painted and that the room next to us was being sued by the painters and staff during this redecoration. There was a smell of paint but not over powerful. Unfortunately I noticed that the smoke detector in our room was illuminated. At this point I should tell you that my earlier job was a director at a large fire & security company where I also fulfilled the job as Technical director so I am familiar with security and fire alarms. The smoke detector type in the room was a type I am also familiar with. As it was illuminated this meant that at some point it had been activated and the main control panel was silenced but not reset, some fire panels would allow the zone for the detector to be isolated thus preventing any further nuisance activations on that zone being annunciated at the panel. I was concerned about this as potentially the whole 6th floor may have been isolated.

When we went up to the top floor for dinner, as previously advised was the location for the restaurant, we were told that it was a private function and that we needed to go to the ground floor!! We went to the ground floor and I took the opportunity to discuss the fire alarm with the guy on the front desk. He seemed pretty dismissive about it and said that it was fine. When I told him that I was an engineer he changed his approach and said he would deal with it. I then saw him tell a guy in a dark suit about it who then walked off in a dismissive way with one hand up in the air. I asked the first guy that I spoke with if the guy in the dark suit was a manager and he confirmed that he was and that the manager was happy. I told him I WAS NOT happy with their attitude to the safety of their guest.

Nothing further was said to me about this either later that evening or the next morning and nor was the smoke detector ever reset!! did not sleep too well that night.

As we were taking an early flight our travel agent booked us into the Hotel Yangon. I was impressed by their proffessionalism in booking us in and was very pleased with the room. I had asked for a quiet room and I was given the 10th Floor. We ate in the restaurant and we were one of 2 diners and we ordered I bowl of soup and then 2 maincourses. One main course was brought at the same time as the soup. We asked for it to brought with the other main course. Both fish dishes were hot and we had orderd fries for a change from rice or noodles but they were cold.
As previously mentioned the hotel is very close to the airport for an early morning flight.

we stayed there three times for one night each.
location: excellent to the airport (max 10 minutes), rather far from the city center (approx 25-30 minutes by car). We tried to hire a taxi to get us back from the city center (Sule pagoda) one night and had to ask 4 drivers until we found one who took us back. The other three either did not know the location or did not want to drive outside that far.
rooms: air condition, nice view, very, very loud (traffic from nearly all sides). not enough non-smoker-rooms (we got a smoker room two of the three times, one time we were able to change rooms to a non-smoker, the second time all non-smokers were full; some smoker rooms are very smelly). The rooms were ok, but no luxury. ok for one night, rather not for longer stays
breakfast: excellent! the best part of the hotel stay
Staff: very friendly.
In the lobby you will find some shops (souvenirs, body shop, for some reason furniture), if you need to stock up your provisions. Of course the prices are somewhat higher than at the markets (like Scott Market).
There is a spa with massages etc. in the hotel, but we did not try it out.

Since the time i visited Yangon was during the Thingyan festival and it is advisable not to stay in city centre, So in the end we booked this hotel since it is nearby to the airport. During Thingyan festival, every where is closed so most of our time is spend inside the hotel. The hotel is old and needed a fresh coat of paint, the room inside is very spacious and simple, although the place is old but hot shower is working, wifi is provided but slow, aircon is good and cold however it will need to take roughly 5 mins for it to start up. The bed is a bit hard but not affecting our sleep, there is a restaurant in 12th floor and the ground floor. Hotel breakfast is provided, wide varieties of choices and I love the Congee especially, no salty at all. Bacon and fried chicken is good as well, highly recommended.

More of a place to sleep over rather than to stay over, but hey, what was the original purpose of hotels? Breakfast was great, especially their egg fried rice. The hotel has done a good job servicing, but their faults are a result of the country's poor infrastructure and government policy. Although at 16 degress, the air con does not work at it's full potential due to limited power supply. Also, limited internet bandwidth due to government regulation makes business communication difficult. For those with the same complaint, do understand that it is not completely their fault....

If you have to stay near the airport, this is 10 to 15 min from it. Sedona hotel is nicer and more costly and another 10 to 15 min further from airport..
The Golden Duck has a restaurant across the street and there is a delux supermarket with lots of western brands in a modern shopping center 300 meters away in Junction 8, ask at the desk.
Breakfast included in our rate was quite extensive but not quite as varied as the Sedona.
overall an OK place for a one night airport stop.

I stayed here for two days with my businees case. You dont need to worry for services. So i will tell about the bad things. Facalities look old and some are really old. Wifi is still at the ice age.

But out of everythings, you will feel really satisfied just because of the smile and responbilities of the staffs. And the prices are really fair. As it situated almost at the center of Yangon, you can get to everywhere in short period of time.
