I actually traveled in June of 2010, but one cannot add later dates, and this was a great experience. I traveled with a group, and Sophia guest house was very accommodating. The group was very happy that we stayed at a guest house, and not a hotel. We somewhat experienced (as much as tourists can) South Korean living, complete with...

Sophia Guest House is a real gem among the busy bustle of Seoul. If you are looking for an authentic, down-to-earth experience with no frills, this is the perfect place. Sophia and her mother Maria treat their guests as if they are family. I am Korean-American and every time I stay here (3 times already over the last 3 years),...

I've stayed at Sophia's guest house for a weekend and I have to say: Im happy that I choose this accommodation. It's a traditional guesthouse giving you an authentic feel. Sophia was very hospitable, the rooms are clean and neat and its just wonderful to look into the courtyard when you wake up. The location is perfect! It's only a...

Sophia guesthouse was definitely better than the previous hanook i stayed in Oct. The lady was hospitable and her elderly mother comes out to cook and prepare breakfast. Even though she is unable to speak english, the elder lady makes effort to communicate. The room was neat and they provided the necessary amenities. The price was also reasonable. Location wss...

Our first night, my friends and I shared two double rooms in the main house just across from the kitchen and a few feet from the bathroom. The second night, we stayed in the Annex. In some ways, I thought the Annex was nicer than was the main house, if only because the Annex feels (but, also is, rather literally,)...

Staying in Samcheongdong / Bukchon

Neighbourhood Profile
Samcheongdong / Bukchon
This historic neighbourhood was traditionally home to Seoul’s middle and upper-classes. Now it’s most famed for its clusters of beautiful, traditional Korean homes (called hanok), many of which are found in Bukchon. Many of these homes have now been converted into restaurants, cafes, shops, and even guesthouses, and their unique architecture offers a look at Korea’s traditional beauty. Samcheongdong’s main and side streets attract locals and tourists alike for their quaint and charming scenery, while the Blue House (Cheong Wa Dae) serves as the residence for South Korea’s president. Art fans will love exploring the many independent and private art galleries in the area.
