Seoulwise is great because:
1) It's VERY VERY clean. Spotless. Cleaner than my apartment at home, if that's not too gross to say. VERY clean.
2) The dorms are 4 people MAX. This means shower-sharing is easy, hygienic etc. Private rooms are large, with ensuite showers. Everything in the rooms is modern and works - great!
3) Hongdae is the best location in Seoul. For young peolpe who like fashion or bars or hang-out spots, anyway. The BEST indie bar in Seoul (Club FF) is about 10 mins walk away in the densely-packed party area of Hongdae. This is the kind of area where you get take-away cocktails in a bag! Wahey!
4) You can do your washing in the hostel if you're long-term travelling and you're nearing that "eeeep, I'm gonna run outta pants" time.
5) Breakfast is fine - toast, cereal, juice, and FRESHLY BREWED COFFEE. Mmmm.
6) Internet works very well - having hostelled around quite a bit I have learnt one should not underestimate the importnce of this. Daily frustration getting online (which you NEED to do when travelling) can really bring a trip down. Not so here!
7) There are helpful signs around the place - tips, rules etc. I know 'rules' doesnt sound all too important OR fun, but actually it shows the guesthouse is well-managed, and it makes being there just a bit more pleasant for everyone. For example, there's no curfew, but there is a 'quiet after 10PM' rule. If you want to go party, do it - that's half the fun of Seoul! But if you're dog-tired and want to get a good night's sleep, the hostel has made the effort to ensure everyone is behaving considerately enough for theis to happen. Small touch = big impact.
8) Young, the owner, is really nice, with a great knowledge of the area and Korea and, it seems, basically the whole world. His photos that he's taken whilst doing his own travels decorate the stairwell of the hostel and they're not only very good - he's clearly a great photographer - but they're from EVERYWHERE. It's probably why the hostel's managed so well - he's clearly stayed in a lot of places all over the world and he knows what you need as a traveller and has suppplied it wonderfully well. Amazing job.
9) It's reasonably priced. Look at the others listed - I bet you it's all around the same price, and I've stayed in Seoul before and spoken to lots of others who have too and the general concencus is that Seoul hostels don't really have to make the effort to be good in order to get your business - there's so many travellers here it's really easy pickings. Consequently we've all stayed in some really rather grotty holes and paid through the nose forthe pleasure. Stay here instead where it's lovely for the same money!

I will definitely be booking here the next time I'm in Seoul, which is the biggest reccommendation I can give, really!

Seoulwise is located on a quiet alleyway in the very charismatic area of Hongdae. It was quite easy to get to by train straight from the airport, being less than a 10 minute walk from Hongik University station.

The guy at the desk seemed a little stressed as he matter-of-factly explained the rules of the guest house and showed me to my room. I stayed in a dorm on the 3rd floor which was well-maintained and quiet (minor annoyance: no power socket by the top bunk to charge my phone with). A light breakfast was included with the price, and there is a handy water cooler in the kitchen to fill your bottles with before you embark upon the streets.

There are countless convenience stores, shops, bars & attractions all within a few minutes walk of Seoulwise. Honestly, the location is amazing. To be a stones throw away from the university district of central Hongdae is worth the stay alone.

Bonus tip: while in Hongdae, be sure to check out its many pet cafes such as Bau Haus (dog cafe), Thanks Nature Cafe (sheep cafe) and YCat (cat cafe). So much fun!

Whether you're a 68 year old or in your mid-20's, Seoulwise Guesthouse is exactly what it claims to be. A good nights sleep added with the bonus of waking up to an already inclusive breakfast, added that there are a few rules to abide by (which are for the better of the stay). The facilities in Seoulwise are great, the prices are the best for what is available & it is a close 5 minute walk to the Subway.

The area is located near Honggik University (which has it's own line coming from the airport) & Hongdae (a famous bar-shopping/culture district)

The 2 private rooms provided by Seoulwise during my stay were pretty much the best iv stayed during my trips in Asia. Best in areas such as cleanliness & space.. Most other Guesthouses in Korea charge the same price & don't even include a private bathroom.. Well, you'll be in a lot of luck if you can secure yourself into a private room at Seoulwise. The dorms don't go more than a 4 bed room (which is alot better than most other places that cram 12 people into 1 room).

Mr Young, the owner has travelled to many places in the World, If not all by the looks of personal photos taken by him (which are quite amazing moments captured by photograph) .. He's even been to Antartica.. He's kind enough to all his guests & be a huge service if in need of assistance.

there is no curfew & oh yeah, also a laundry service too.

This is my 2nd stay (and 2nd review) here since 2010 and this time I brought my family since we came down to visit a family member. To my surprise, the guesthouse has gone through a facelift - the front desk, common area and kitchen has been refurbished to the ground floor, so there are more space to pretty much mingle around and keep in touch with the host, Mr Young.

One thing that makes Seoulwise great from other guesthouse is how complete and self sustainable the facilities are. Mr Young made everything so easy...and he's pretty much handles EVERYTHING from checking you in, explaining the guesthouse rules, sharing and suggesting what to do around South Korea and even cleaning! This guy is a powerhouse!

Lets go to the facilities...Seoulwise is not the glossiest looking, but do hear me out. If you are a first timer to Seoul without ANYTHING on your back, you can pretty much come here and have everything sort and laid out for you in Seoulwise.

1. The breakfast is basic continental (cereal, bread and juice), but enough to fuel up your day walking and navigating around Seoul.
2. Have no clues what to do in Seoul? Find Mr Young, look up in the computer provided in the common room or just browse the maps, guide books and even local newspapers! T-money is made available for loan at no expense (unlike some guesthouse I've been to)
3. Noisy roomate? Foam earplugs is made available at front desk.
4. Everything is labeled and pretty much 'strategize' for your convenience even if Mr Young is not around (which only happens at lunch time or when he's up cleaning). He will leave a telephone on the door or common area for you if he's not there. And if you don't wanna spend for toiletries (soaps and toothpaste, wtv) there are some leftover stash from previous visitors for you to use, if you don't mind using. Hey, free stuff!
5. Night life and food?: Seoulwise is located in young and hip university area, so even if your stomach can't yet digest kimchi, there are plenty of western eateries like Taco Bell, Starbucks, Paris Baguette. Not to forget the clubs around as well which comes to life on weekends.

I've no doubt that I will come back here again :)

On April 2014 I went to Seoul with my wife, and we decided to stay at Seoulwise Guesthouse. The owner (Mr.Young and his staff Adrian) was so kind and helpful. They speak good english too. Even before we arrived in Korea, we asked a lot of question about Seoul, and about the guesthouse, and and he kindly replied to all of our question.

The location is very easy to acces: Just take Arex (Airport Express) subway from Incheon Int'l, and get off at Hongik University. Take exit number 3, and then take 5-7 minute walk. It's really not a fast walk or a long step walk, 5-7 minute of relax walk, and you'll be there.

There's a 24 hour convenient store nearby (GS-25) where you can buy wifi acces around Seoul, or just a quick breakfast.

Seoulwise was very close to Hongik university surrounding; a crowded "hip" night market. There was also alot of restaurant surround the Guesthouse.

The guesthouse itself located at a small alley, and it's very quiet.

There's no curview, and the front door key was electric. There's also alot of active CCTV inside and outside the guesthouse, so there's that for the security.

There's wifi in the guesthouse that can be accessed from all of the rooms. There's also a common room with tv and computers we can use.

There's no kitchen and TV in our room (we don't need it anyway), so watching TV and cooking/eating must be done in the comon room.

There's hot water shower, and you will be provided with a pair of bedsheets, blanket, and towels.

The most imortant thing for us is that the room, bathroom, and the whole Guesthouse are very clean, altough the bed was a little bit hard. You are not allowed to use your shoes inside the guesthouse, but you will be provided a sandals you can only use inside the guesthouse. There's also a special sandals for bathroom.

Overall, we are so satisfied for their hospitality, and definitely, if we go to Seoul, we well be staying back at Seoulwise again. Thank you Seoulwise!

Traveled with 6 friends and stayed in mixed dorm. I'd say its quite affordable for 20,000 won ($18) per person. Clean spotless room, high speed wi-fi, books and brochures around Korea, complimentary continental breakfast and best among all is Mr YOUNG. He speaks fluent English so its great to get insights and insiders tip on where and what to do around Seoul. He even loan all of us T-Money for our convenience. He's a BIG help!

Even though the guesthouse is located in the quieter side of Hongdae, if you're into photography, nightlife, cafe hopping then look no further, this is the place for you.

This place was excellent for me and my sister who were travelling alone. Young was great and very helpful! Our friends we met even fell in love with him because he was so nice and helpful. The room (twin) was adequate for us and we had enough room to move (unlike in Japan). The room was cleaned everyday and convenient as even though we came back at different times of the day we never saw the staff clean our room... The bathroom is a bit small but it wasn't a big deal for us. Simple breakfast (toast and cereal) was provided and was a good place to meet other guests staying in the house. We also used the common TV and computers a bit which was convenient for us. We went to a lot of concerts and the staff were very helpful in giving us directions and also translating text for us when needed! The location was also really good for us as we often came back late so we lived on Hongdae's street food which was open until late at night. We also spent most of our time in MyeongDong which was only 10 minutes by subway. The best thing was that the Airport line runs through the Hongdae station so no need to transfer trains with our suitcases or walk long distances as the guesthouse is really close to the station. We basically felt at home here and didn't want to leave haha!! Definitely coming back and staying with Young and the staff again!

This excellent guesthouse is my new favorite place to stay in Seoul. It's located very close to the Hongik University subway stop which means it's in a trendy, fun neighborhood and very convienent to the subway and airport train. The Hongdae area is full of hostels and guesthouses but Seoulwise is the best I've found because it's comfy, clean and quiet and the owner is incredibly friendly and helpful. I stayed both in one of the dorm rooms and in a private, twin room with a friend. The rooms here are converted studio apartments so each room has its own bathroom. I recommend paying a few thousand won extra for the 4 person dorm instead of the 6 or 8 person dorm room because the wooden bunk beds in the 4-person room are much sturdier. Mr. Young, the owner, went out of his way to help the guests and to provide information and recommendations. The other guests were quiet and courteous, the lounge area is nice, the free breakfast of toast, cereal, juice and coffee was great and the wifi is reliable. Basically, this place has everything you could be looking for in a low-budget accommodation.

Seoulwise Guesthouse should have been on the top 3! The guesthouse did feel home every single day. The rooms and amenities are clean and easy. Each room is equipped with an ensuite bathroom which is important to me. Wifi is excellent everywhere even inside the room. The shower has good water pressure and can adjust temperature. The house/room key would make you feel secured even going home late at night (well even the neighborhood). Basic but filling breakfast is available for the guests. The common area is very homey and it's an area of opportunity to chat with Mr. Young and with other travelers to share ideas and ask questions. Every morning, Mr. Young prepares the breakfast himself and asks you where you would be going for that day, asks why and how we're going to get there. He's more than what you can expect from an owner. He's fantastic! He is a world traveler so he knows and understands exactly what your needs are. He's generous with information and of his time and service especially if it can provide convenience for you. The guesthouse is a 5-minute walk from the station which goes to and from Incheon airport directly. There's also a bus stop, just a little across from the station where it can bring you to Incheon airport. There are nearby restaurants, bakery, grocery and convenience store where you can charge your M-Pass Card easily. Very convenient! Reserving a room is easy. No need for down payment and Mr. Young calls a week before just to confirm your reservation. Our trip to Korea had been made more pleasant by staying here. I definitely recommend and will definitely stay here again.

My review is a little bit late but my friend and I stayed at Seoulwise last April 2012 and Mr. Young was definitely the best. I got to Seoul at an earlier flight and since our room was not available he offered me to stay at a dorm room to rest and even offered me some breakfast. Also my friend came at a late flight (at around 11pm) and Mr. Young was so kind as to accompany me in his car to the train station since it was raining and cold that night. He speaks good english and offers good advise to travellers particularly with food ^_^. Location wise it was really convenient as it was near the Hongik University area. The rooms were clean and spacious for a twin room and the beds were really comfortable. My friend and I will definitely miss Minnie in her hanbok and walking around Hongik (minus the rain). Hopefully we'll get the chance to go back there again :)
