Saruni is a small, luxury lodge in Mara North Conservancy, the best wildlife area in the Masai mara ecosystem. We have one family villa and 5 cottages. Our masai guides are among the best in Kenya and to discover the amazing wildlife of the Mara with them is an unforgettable experience. In July 2012 Saruni Mara opened the doors of a brand new family villa and completed the refurbishment of its existing villa’s in to six beautifully designed, themed rooms. The stylish new villa has two en-suite bedrooms and a large lounge complete with dinning area and comfortable sofa’s sounding the welcoming fireplace. There is also an impressive large veranda overlooking the magnificent scenery of the Masai Mara. The remaining villas have been refurbished to incorporate themes that will engage with guests passions whether that is art, astronomy, photography, literature, natural history or simply romance. All furniture, carpets, lamps and bedding was either sourced locally in Nairobi or designed by Kenyan interior decorator Larissa Hoops and then made by local craftsmen. The Art room will inspire creative guests with an easel and paint as well as a desk with drawing materials. For star gazers, the Astronomy room has a vintage brass telescope, moon map and selection of interesting material on all things cosmic.Book worms and budding writers will enjoy staying in the Literature room with its vintage typewriter, leather reading chairs, desk with brass reading lamp, quill pen and leather blotter. There is also a selection of classic and African literature. For clients that prefer to view life through the lens, the Photography room has an old box browning camera, antique photographic equipment catalogue and stunning prints adorn the walls. The Family villa also doubles as the Natural History room and is decorated with a selection of antique and vintage prints. There is also relevant reading material such a books on mammals, reptiles, tree’s and birds. The Honeymoon room has been simply designed for a relaxing romantic break with comfy furniture and beautiful antiques.Saruni Mara is owned and run by Italian author Riccardo Orizio. This resort is the Masai Mara’s smallest permanent lodge and guests enjoy an exclusive experience with their own private vehicle and guide. Evenings can be spent relaxing in the common area enjoying fine cuisine influenced by Riccardo’s Italian family heritage. Guests can also enjoy bush breakfasts and dinners in breathtaking settings such as in the middle of an acacia forest. Saruni Mara is extremely active in local community and conservation projects and works very closely with the local Masai communities. The lodge is the proud recipient on the Silver rating by Ecotourism Kenya.Rooms at Saruni Mara start from US$390 a night. Prices are based on two people sharing on full board including all house drinks, park fees, game drives and airport transfers.

We booked the first half of our honeymoon to the Saruni Mara and it was an incredible and once-in-a-lifetime experience. From the moment we were met by our guide at the airstrip to saying goodbye after that week, we were met with amazing hospitality and wonderful

Lifelong dream to go on Safari. Living on the West Coast of the United States, Africa felt a long ways from home. It is! But so worth the trip. Took a risk and booked with Go2Africa.com. Ashley, our agent, hooked us up with Saruni Mara and Saruni Samburu. Everything we could

We all have great expectations once we’ve decided on a safari, but you will be blown away if you pick Saruni Mara!! The ‘ safari tents/villas’ are so pretty and elegant. Slept so well I didn’t need a pill! Helped that they put a hot water bottle in your bed before you retired

The experience was beyond any expectation. All organised for us, including the flights from Nairobi. The lodge and the cottages were cozy with a touch of luxury, the personell was incredibly friendly and helpful and the food is exquisite (Italian inspired). Try the massage! All

From the time we landed in Nairobi until our departure, we had the royal treatment. Upon arrival, we had a special greeting on the tarmac, breezed through immigration, and then onto our hotel for three nights stay in Nairobi. It was our ninth visit to Africa but this was special

October is in my opinion one of the best months and one of the best value-for-money month in Kenya in general and in the Masai Mara. I'd not hesitate to book for a safari in October. Riccardo

If you read the - for instance - last 10-20 tripdavisor reviews of 2018 about Saruni Mara you will find the answer, which is: no, the fact that Saruni Mara is on the mountain overlooking the plains instead of being in the plains does not impact at all the quantity or quality and variety of wildlife that you experience. All our guests see an en extraordinary amount of wildlife, almost always much more than they expected. Our guides are fantastic an below to the local community an know the terrain metre by metre. When you drive out of Saruni mara on your way to a game rive, you don;t do a "transfer to the plains" an waste time: you drive through fantastic valleys and mountains with an abundance of wildlife and birdlife and amazing landscapes, with some traditional masai villages who belong to the people who own an protect the land where the wildlife is. I hope this helps, but if not kindly let me know.

Hello Ana, sorry for the delay in replying. Our food is Italian inspired, but far form being "basic" (I hope), as you can see from many tripadvisor reviews with their comments on the quality of our food. Kenyan cuisine is quite simple an as Rebecca says here we regularly offer a taste of it. If you want to have Kenya ashes more regularly or just to be sure that during your safari you ha a inner with Kenyan ashes, you are very welcome to let us know in advance and we'll organise a great "African dinner" for you.
