This is nice place in Naboisho Conservancy next to Maasai Mara national park. At the time we were there it was fully booked, which meant 14 guests.
Chui tent was very nice, two wide beds per tent (2 accommodation tents and lobby tent). Good shower and spacious bathroom. Big sofa. However, it’s quite far from the lounge area (about 500 meters). It’s not that much the distance that bothers but inconvenience. There is also no light of any kind in the pathway, and night is really dark there. However, there is an escort service to walk the path at evening times, so there is no practical need for light.
Wifi was quite poor at the tent and nonexistent elsewhere.
There are lots and lots of animals at the site and nearby. Thousands of zebras and gazelles but also elephants, lions, hippos, giraffes, and many more.
At the time we visited (early March) it was quite wet and also cold at mornings. We were told it is unusual at this time of the year. However, good boots and warm clothes was a must. And, as always in safari, proper camera and binoculars are important. Pocket size camera with optical zoom does it fairly good, but even the best mobile phone camera won’t.
They have wet proof ponchos in safari vehicles and umbrellas in tents, therefore no need for raincoats.
Game drives are very well organized (two couples at one vehicle). Drivers are good and acknowledged.
Food was very good. All dining is done together with other guests (if you don’t request private bush dinner for extra charge). After dinner tour you may have drinks at the lounge.
As all safari venues I know, this is all inclusive. Service is first class.
Ol Seki airstrip is nearby (about 10 minutes), but if it’s inoperable, next one is about hour and a half drive away, and the ”road” very poor.

Dear Aaltonen, Thank you for taking the time to leave us your detailed review. We are pleased that you enjoyed the game drives and animals and the guiding experience. It is great to know you thought the food was very good too. A few little things to point out just for other guests who read this. We have 6 double tents , No. 3 is a twin and each is within walking distance of the main mess area. The pathways are made of galana stone and guests are escorted by a security askari at night. Guests also have their own torch in the tents for this purpose. Putting lights on the pathways would increase light pollution which is not something we would like to do. We have two suited tents SIMBA ( One double/one twin room ) and CHUI ( 2 TWIN rooms ) both situated further away from main mess area, with their own drive way in . They have two rooms each and a central dining area and kitchenette. They both work on a "home away from home" basis and your own guide with your own vehicle collects you from there for your guided game drives. Distances from there are minimal. However......the CHUI suite can also be booked as 2 twin units if we were full down below which we were. In this case you will dine in the main mess rather than in the Chui mess as you know. This certainly is a bit of a distance to walk but looking on the positive side, it is probably the one lovely bit of exercise you got whilst here ,and the night sky in the evenings is always awesome with next to no night pollution. We have a plan to improve the wifi in the suited tents in the off season. We did upgrade it actually but the trees grew and distorted the signal up there. we do have great signal in all six Nina tents and good signal in the Simba suite too. It can sometimes take time for your phone to connect to it. We do not have reception in our communal areas like the lounge and dining room. Wishing you well during these trying times. We hope you stay safe and well . All the best from the Olseki team.

This is a very comfortable safari lodge within the Naboisho conservancy which borders the Masai Mara. There is an abundance of game here - a man on a motorbike is employed to keep wildebeest and zebra off the airstrip!

The lodge comprises single and family tented accommodation and each large tent has a large shower, bathroom area and balcony overlooking the reserve . Furnishings are fairly basic, there are no tea or coffee making facilities or hairdryers although one is available to borrow. Laundry is free (except for ladies’ underwear which the Masai won’t wash!) I wouldn’t class this as a luxury lodge, despite the Hemingways name, it feels more like a 3*. There is a small lounge with leather chesterfields overlooking the reserve and another tented dining room but no bar or social area.

The food was OK but there is no choice, although i understand you can pre-order vegetarian or pescatarian options. The lunches were the best meal, tending towards lighter salads. Dinner was a four-course affair with starter, soup, main course (mostly consisting of some sort of meat in gravy with potatoes and veg) plus pudding. It felt like nothing had changed in fifty years from a culinary point of view! The closest comparison i can imagine is a skiing chalet holiday. There was no choice of alcohol and no ability to pay extra to upgrade so it was basic white or red wine or beer.
Service was pleasant and fairly friendly and David, the manager, was very visible and helpful.

The game drives were very good, the jeeps are quite new and comfortable and Patrick, our guide, was excellent. There is so much game here. We had numerous close sightings of lions, cheetahs, leopards, herds of elephants, giraffes, hippos, hyenas, jackals, warthogs etc.

What i felt was missing were the little extras which we have usually enjoyed on safari although, to be fair, this might be down to COVID as there were only 4 or 5 of us in camp so they must be struggling financially. Bush breakfasts and dinners cost extra, as did the bush walk we enjoyed and there was no tea and coffee on the morning game drives and in the evening drive there was little choice of sundowner and only crisps and Bombay mix on offer. However, this was also our first Kenyan safari so maybe things are different here to other countries' safari drives.

Bottom line, a safari is all about the animals and Ol Seki delivers this in spades.

Wow what can I Say – our stay in Feb 2020 at Ol Seki far exceeded our expectations. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Everywhere was spotless and the attention to detail was great, which included the hot water bottles placed in our beds whilst we were at dinner! David the Manager, who I had emailed prior to our visit, came back to me very quickly with answers to my questions, and all the staff were amazing and made us feel very welcome. We were concerned that the accommodation didn’t have mosquito nets and prior to our visit were advised that they weren’t needed, this was correct as we didn’t see one mosquito! Mike our guide/driver was brilliant, very friendly, considerate and even made us laugh with some of his jokes! We saw loads of animals and managed to spend a while watching the lions. The Maasai village is well worth a visit, remember to take some pencils/paper/colouring books along for the Children, they loved them. This was our first Safari adventure and from our experience we would recommend Ol Seki to anyone for a 3 night safari (3 nights is all you need). Thanks to everyone at Ol Seki – Absolutely Brilliant!

We stayed at Ol Seki for our Honeymoon and hope we get to return again one day! The experience was truly amazing, speaking to other guests that had visited the main mara reserve, we knew we had made a great choice visiting Ol Seki. There are less camps in the conservancy and the quality (and quantity) of game is just outstanding. We saw everything we hoped for and more.

Our guide Patrick looked after us during our stay and was very knowledgeable and friendly. We went on drives with a another couple along with a regular visitor, this enhanced our experience and made our stay even better. I should add, we even saw an Aardvark (Team Aardvark) on our evening game drive!

Staying in a Nina tent, the accommodation was very spacious with all the amenities you would expect from a top hotel whilst still feeling very in touch with nature. The meals were served as communal meals with the other guests which gave us a chance to swap stories and get jealous from all the amazing sightings other groups had seen.

During our relaxing time, there is a pool overlooking the plains and watering hole which makes for good viewing whilst enjoying a dip.

All the staff at Ol Seki really made an effort to ensure our stay was perfect, from the staff around the dining areas (especially William, thank you for such a personal service) to the night Askari and the other staff behind the scenes that you never see such as the maids/cleaners. Also, thank you to Debbie who was always around for a chat, to share stories that just engrossed us more in the whole experience and also for our surprise Honeymoon dinner that really made our stay even more memorable.

Hopefully one day we can visit Ol Seki again, until then we can just look back at our amazing memories.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review. It was lovely to read all your positive words, and to know that you shared a special time here with us. During these quiet times with no tourists this beautiful paradise continues, with all its magic. We have had enormous amounts of rain and there has been some crazy flooding. Luckily we are on a hill as you know, and have been spared the heartache that others have suffered. It is lush and green and the animals are thriving for now. Obviously with the Covid -19 lock down , and no tourists bringing in revenue, it will have a massive impact on us all. Our hearts go out to all who have suffered losses in their families and those who are struggling as I write. We are thankful to all the doctors and nurses out there who are giving of themselves to help all those in need, and we pray for less suffering all over. We look to the future with hope and positive energy and hope that these strange times will pass, so that we can all begin the journey to recovery. Stay safe and well and we hope to see you again soon. All the best from us all at Olseki.

If you’re looking for an incredible lodge in the Masai Mara, beautiful setting, and diverse wildlife, stop right now and book at Ol Seki Hemingway’s. It is difficult to put into words just how breathtaking this entire experience was, and how COVID safe we felt the entire time.
The camp is impeccably clean and each guest stays in their own “tent”, which is equipped with a hot water rain style shower + bathroom, comfortable king sized bed, and of course an incredible view of the Mara. The food at camp is gourmet, and the staff took extra care to make sure everyone was social distanced and washing their hands. We had been a little nervous about traveling during the pandemic and the minute we arrived in the Mara our fears dissipated.
You NEED to request Raffy as your guide. He took us on 6 drives. We saw cats on 6/6 drives, including a leopard and Cub, a cheetah with Cubs, and multiple prides of lions with Cubs. He has a wealth of information about the wildlife and was genuinely so excited to explore the Mara with us, which (even if we hadn’t been so lucky with our sightings) would have made our stay amazing either way. We were always 3 or less vehicles around a sighting, which allowed us to experience the animals in their natural state.
On our final night the staff set us up a private candle lit dinner underneath a cave on the property. They set up a fire, and we ate looking out onto the stars. It was so personalized and special, we both had to pinch ourselves. We can’t wait to come back to this gem of a camp.

Thank you for your detailed and exciting review. We feel so happy that you enjoyed your experience with us. Covid times were not fun for anyone, but what better place than to be in the remoteness of the african plains , with wide open spaces, wonderful views, incredible wildlife sightings and just an overall relaxing stay where our team go out of their way to make you have the best possible time! It is a healing and nurturing environment , where you truly do escape from the roller coaster busy outside world. We look forward to welcoming you back again one day. All the best Debbie

We missed our flight due to a visa issue but Hemingways moved our trip back by a day at no extra charge. We met friends and had Nina tents 2 & .. Debbie was an outstanding host showing genuine interest in her guests and creating inclusive dialogue that encouraged everyone's input. She and the knowledgeable staff shared info about the area, the Massai people, local animals, previous guests' sitings and stories. The tents were spacious and decorated in neutral colours complementing the environment. The showers were hot and strong. Ample space to unpack - although we only wore a fraction of what we brought. Food was plentiful and delicious - lunch and dinner menus were set, but there was some flexibility. Days started at 6am with a steaming hot drink and homemade biscuits delivered to the tent. Travel mugs and water/wind proof ponchos were provided for our 6:30 am game drive! Mike our guide could spot and approach the animals and shared history and stories about the Massai and their culture. We also visited his village - which we found to be an authentic experience. For animals, we saw cheetahs, a leopard eating his catch in a tree, several prides of lions, elephants, hippos, crocodiles, giraffe's, wildebeest, hyenas and buffaloes. I'm sure I've missed some! We did two game drives per day and had a unique experience each time. We particularly loved the small, intimate atmosphere of the camp which Debbie and her team have worked hard to create!

Dear Greenshutters16, Thank you for taking time to write your review. We were thrilled to accommodate you, and share some of the most special little privileges that come from living out in the wilds. Olseki is a special place and has a magic of its own. The animal sightings are phenomenal and Im blown away every day when I hear what amazing sightings guests are lucky enough to have seen. You have to experience it in the flesh to really understand. It is great that you have taken home some special memories, that you've learnt so much and embraced the culture too. Always wonderful to meet new friends on safari, as they often become lifetime friends, with so many unique, shared experiences. We hope one day you will return. With our very best wishes. Debbie and the Olseki team.

The Ol Seki team headed up by Debbie really know how to make your stay and safari experience just perfect. We booked a package offer deal from Hemingway’s which included 3 nights at Ol Seki and 4 at their Watamu resort plus interconnecting flights. The conservancy is outside the main Mara Gamepark but is so full of wildlife you don’t need to go to the Mara itself, which can get very crowded (unless you want to see a Rhino in which case you can organise a visit to the park with Debbie). We saw 8 cheetahs, lions, a leopard, buffalo, hippos and gazillions of other game. The bird life was also good with multiple large eagles including the huge Marshall Eagle. We had Patrick and Benson as our guides on the game drive who were excellent, they even organised G&T sundowner drinks 4 metres away from a pair of mating lions. The tents, infinity pool and dining all added to the perfect experience.

The camp rooms were amazing all almost fully equipped, no kettle or hair dryer you may ask the staff for extras, every night since it’s cold you find a hot water bottle under your bed sheet to warmup the bed for you which was a nice gesture. Bring your own slipper to use in the tent and while going for lunch if your using the common area . Food was amazing all meals were thoughtful and, game drives are amazing as our tour guide Raffel was amazing in taking us in our game drives . We would definitely go back some time soon for the same thrill.
Staff was helpful and cooperative. We’ve had our best time at the safari and the hotel

Our second visit here, and still brilliant. We stayed in Chui tents with our own dining area. It’s tents but in name only, very spacious 2 double beds, bathroom and separate shower room. Wooden floors, settee and chairs. As per usual with the Hemingways Collection the staff are brilliant. We were looked after by William (Tall) responsible for tidying up after us, making early morning tea and putting hot water bottles in our bed! William (Football) was in charge of food and beverages, think he was on a bonus if we put weight on, which we did! Vincent was our chef providing excellent tasty food whenever it was required.
Issac was our driver and guide and was fantastic, great sense of humour, huge knowledge of all the animals and birds in the conservancy. Found us all the animals we wanted to see, Lions with cubs, Leopard with cubs, Cheetah with cubs! Lots of baby animals at this time of year. He looked after us extremely well.
Melinda was manager, covering for Debbie, popped in to see you twice a day to make sure we were happy with everything, which we were! Thank you for your care and attention.
We had a bush breakfast by the river with everyone in the camp and a private Bush dinner one evening, avoiding the thunderstorms. It’s a great experience and would recommend if you get the chance.
The swimming pool was new and we spent an hour a day there, having it pretty much to ourselves, it’s refreshing! Unheated but warms up during the day and clean, as is the rest of the camp.
Looking forward to returning as soon as we can! Easy 5 stars.

We only have one family tent for the moment, and it is truly gorgeous, with its own little kitchenette and plunge pool. Various airlines fly OlSeki to Wilson airport. It will depend on what time you book and with which airline. Most people seem to fly in the morning which means you’re back in Nairobi by early afternoon at the latest. If your onward flight is from Jomo Kenyatta airport it’s at least an hour between airports. Most times we’ve flown about. 11.30 and it takes about 45 minutes. They are only small aircraft - about 12 seaters. Depends what your planning. Crown Plaza at Jomo Kenyatta is a very good overnight stay.

Hi There, Thanks for your inquiry. unfortunately we only have a pair of not so great binoculars that we can lend , so I highly recommend that you bring your own. It makes such a difference but if you cant don't worry as you do get up so close and personal to the animals that you can do without them. It just adds a different dynamic to the game viewing when you can search the plains and far horizons too. We look forward to welcoming you on the 14th. Congratulations on your recent marriage. Youre going to have a wonderful honeymoon with us! you have much to look forward to. All the best. Travel safe.

Good morning. The Balloon Safari company is called Balloon Safaris. They charge 475 USD per person. This includes an hour in the air and a champagne bush breakfast. The Balloon safari will depart from Ol seki at 4;30am in the morning and you will return at about 11am after a short game drive. Hope that helps. Thank you for your interest.
