Governors' IL Moran Camp is small and intimate. Located right in the heart of the Masai Mara Game Reserve, this small luxurious camp is hidden under ancient trees, deep in the forest on the banks of the Mara River. 10 spacious tents line the winding river banks of the Mara River. With the best game viewing right on your doorstep game drives and game walks are included in the rate. Governors has been pioneering immersive and transformational safaris in the Mara since 1972. We were the first operators to be permanently based inside the Mara, our site was chosen for its prime location and was the designated “getaway” for the Governors of Kenya. Unfenced and right in the heart of the action. Our camps are Located in some of the best and most precious Wildlife Locations in the world. We are a family with a colourful cast of characters that embodies the spirit of safari, while placing the care of the environment, community and conservation at the heart of everything we do.

Hi Natalie, I have stayed at Il Moran many times and in fact all over the Mara eco-system. There definitely are mosquitos around sometimes. It really depends upon the weather however I have never had a problem with them at Il Moran per se and certainly never in the tents. All their tents are very well protected with insect netting and they also have mosquito spray if you do happen to find a mozzy or other insect that you do not like in your tent. A more difficult time is at dusk when you might be feeling hot and a bit bothered. If the wind is blowing you generally seem to be fine but if the conditions are still you might find yourself getting bitten around the camp fire, at sundowner drinks etc.. Long sleeved shirts, socks & trousers are the best solution. Just be aware of the danger but do not get too concerned. I only know of one person who contracted malaria in the Mara in the last 5 years so I think you would have to be very unlucky. You definitely do NOT need to take your own mosquito nets. Hope that helps Ben

Paradise plains is reasonably close to the Governors Camps. Certainly within easy game drive and regularly visited by their drivers.

The Maasai Mara is generally a super area to see big cats, if they are around your guides at Governors will find them. High expectations can be disappointing, percentages are very good as it is always in the interest of the lodges to have happy guests with memories of Kenya's fantastic wild life.

Hi Robert, I think if you tell your driver what you want then you can generally see lions as often as you like. They are very territorial and therefor can be found with relative ease. Cheetahs are not territorial and can cover great distances quite quickly and easily. However they are diurnal and therefor reasonable easy to find once you know they are around. The drivers normally always know where there are cheetah somewhere in the Mara eco-system and so you can generally find them if you want to. Leopard are more hit and miss. However, they are becoming easier to see all the time. They tend to be crepuscular and so the window of opportunity is much smaller. They also tend to be intrinsically shy and so, even though they not worried by vehicles, always prefer to be out of sight and away from the limelight. When ever I have stayed at Il moran we have always seen leopard extremely well.
