Governors' IL Moran Camp is small and intimate. Located right in the heart of the Masai Mara Game Reserve, this small luxurious camp is hidden under ancient trees, deep in the forest on the banks of the Mara River. 10 spacious tents line the winding river banks of the Mara River. With the best game viewing right on your doorstep game drives and game walks are included in the rate. Governors has been pioneering immersive and transformational safaris in the Mara since 1972. We were the first operators to be permanently based inside the Mara, our site was chosen for its prime location and was the designated “getaway” for the Governors of Kenya. Unfenced and right in the heart of the action. Our camps are Located in some of the best and most precious Wildlife Locations in the world. We are a family with a colourful cast of characters that embodies the spirit of safari, while placing the care of the environment, community and conservation at the heart of everything we do.

Your going to need a vacation after this vacation to absorb all the sights and animal encounters. Between the Safaris, brunches, lunch, sundowners and dinner it was hard to break away to enjoy the bar. Our party was able to enjoy a glass of wine listening to the "Out of Africa"

After last year we were quite surprised at the new bar, lounge and restaurant area which are quite different to last time and very contemporary but haven’t lost the lovely atmosphere the people and staff provides. Also the tents have been updated and have super comfy facilities.

Our dedicated team of guides have new Land Cruiser safari vehicles from which to enjoy the wonders of the Masai Mara, and we've upgraded our food and beverage menu alongside our camp refurbishments. The wildlife is of course still amazing - and we're glad you enjoyed it all! Karibu tena from all of us at Il Moran Camp

Words do not do this place justice! Luxury glamping at its best. Our tent was huge and absolutely immaculate, the meals were high class and lots of choice. Our bush breakfasts with Bernard were impressive. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but hygiene and customer standards

We stayed here during the first week of August, 2018. The level of cleanliness was a concern in our tent cabin, with food service, and with food handling on game drives. Even the vehicle that they used for our games drives was quite dirty. We learned that visitors should not

Response from governorscamp, Guest Relations Manager at Governors' Il Moran Camp

Dear Jamie D, We are very sorry to read your review and learn of your concerns regarding cleanliness. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologise on behalf of Il Moran Camp. We strive to ensure that all guests have a wonderful stay with us, and as you will see from the vast majority of our reviews on this forum, we do succeed in this aim. Guest experience, comfort and safety are all constantly addressed by our team of highly qualified staff. We have full time managers in place whose sole responsibility it is to ensure that we operate at the highest standards. Our dedicated hygiene officer works across our properties, between all the departments, including but not limited to; kitchen/food safety, housekeeping, laundry, bar/dining and camp vehicles. I will be sure to pass on your comments and concerns to him for further review. To address your other concern about the in-room safes being able to be accessed by the room stewards; I must make this point very clear for yourself and future TripAdvisor reviewers that this is absolutely not the case. The only person who may access a guest safe (at the request of and in the presence of the guest) is the general manager of the camp. For obvious reasons we must be able to override the locking system, as the are often cases whereby a guest forgets their combination passcode and cannot then open the safe. This is the system that is in place throughout hotels around the world. If you have any further concerns kindly email them to me on feedback@governorscamp.com Once again we apologise for your unsatisfactory experience. Kind regards, Alisa Bowen- Service Manager for the Governors' Camp Collection.

Paradise plains is reasonably close to the Governors Camps. Certainly within easy game drive and regularly visited by their drivers.

The Maasai Mara is generally a super area to see big cats, if they are around your guides at Governors will find them. High expectations can be disappointing, percentages are very good as it is always in the interest of the lodges to have happy guests with memories of Kenya's fantastic wild life.

Hi Robert, I think if you tell your driver what you want then you can generally see lions as often as you like. They are very territorial and therefor can be found with relative ease. Cheetahs are not territorial and can cover great distances quite quickly and easily. However they are diurnal and therefor reasonable easy to find once you know they are around. The drivers normally always know where there are cheetah somewhere in the Mara eco-system and so you can generally find them if you want to. Leopard are more hit and miss. However, they are becoming easier to see all the time. They tend to be crepuscular and so the window of opportunity is much smaller. They also tend to be intrinsically shy and so, even though they not worried by vehicles, always prefer to be out of sight and away from the limelight. When ever I have stayed at Il moran we have always seen leopard extremely well.
