I stayed in this hotel for 7 nights in room 6401 in the VIP wing. This hotel claims to be a 4 star hotel. I arrived at 1130 and was quickly checked in and in my room. No problems about early access. However, I was the guest of a conference and, as they were paying for my stay, they might have arranged the early access. The room was a reasonable size with a large bed, TV, desk, easy chair, plenty of storage space and coffee/tea making facilities. Two packets of coffee (3 in 1 meaning it contained coffee, whitener and sugar all mixed), one packet of green tea and one packet of red/black tea. This hotel suffered from a common failing in that the coffee and tea were not replenished fully every day. The TV had two channels in English, one on channel 16 which was CGTN. The bathroom had a bath, washbasin, separate shower and WC. I soon found the shower was not watertight. An unsealed gap beneath the hinge at the bottom allowed water from the shower to “flood” the bathroom. However, after one flood I soon learned to direct the shower well away from the door! The bath had an extendable drying line slightly over it but allowing water to drip from wet clothes onto the floor rather than into the bath. Surprisingly, no body lotion was supplied and the shampoo and body wash were replaced whenever I used them which seemed a waste if thrown away. The room was at the side giving me a view of a tall block of flats. It was important to keep the net curtain pulled across to give me privacy. There was a room safe but the instructions were inaccurate. Saying I should push a button labelled A or B when there were none. Only a # and *. After trial and error, and reading the Chinese text (I don’t know any Chinese but could see the symbols) I discovered it was the * key I needed to press. I had breakfast in the hotel. This was a buffet on the 3rd floor of the other block. This meant going down to the lobby and walking across it from one set of lifts to another. The selection of food was very Chinese. There was different melons cut up, yoghurts, fruit juice and hot drinks. There was a very poor selection of breads and pastries. Some days there were none, sometimes a few rolls or slices of bread. Only one day was any butter or jam provided. Wifi was not good. It was OK for sending and receiving emails. But trying to download documents of about 10MB size in the evenings was very slow and usually impossible. I find it puzzling that many hotels are so poor at providing a fast and effective wifi service. At least it was free and I soon learned to do my downloading in the morning. The staff were very pleasant but I am unsure how many could speak any English. I had no problems checking in or out, or at any other time. On the whole, I don’t think I would wish to stay in this hotel again. There are many better hotels in the area, albeit possibly more expensive. It is very close to the National Library metro station so very convenient for getting around Beijing.

We spent 8 nights here while my spouse attended an on-site meeting. The hotel is modern, clean, accessible. The staff are pleasant and try to be helpful to the limited extent of their English and our non-existent Chinese. There were times even Google Translate didn't help. One of the best English speakers was the Bellman. The beds were good. We requested and got a non-smoking room. Smoking is not permitted in the public areas of the hotel. There are issues with ventilation and air circulation. We were on the 9th floor and were constantly smelling cooking odors. The meals in the special dining rooms are excellent. The cafeteria meals are pretty much the same from meal to meal. While quite good, we got tired of the sameness. The wireless was never reliable, even with a VPN connection. It always seemed to be best first thing in the morning. The hotel is conveniently located near a subway stop.

Though the initial impression of this hotel was underwhelming, it managed to surprise us with the little thoughts that go into housekeeping. Much to our surprise, the housekeeper Yu Qing brought us a clothes rack for our used clothes on our first day. On the second day, she left a bottle of washing powder upon noticing that we might need to wash our dirty clothes. Such service is rare and should be complimented.

My stay at the Hubei Hotel was made for me - largely because its location was close to Minzu University and because other hotels were fully booked. As stated in the title for this review, this hotel has nothing going for it. There is virtually nothing nearby in terms of restaurants, tourist sites etc, None of the staff spoke English which made just about everything more difficult, the sole restaurant (Chinese) had no menu in English and hence it was pot luck what you ended ups with, the restaurant for breakfast was buffet style but again very little that could be described as Western fayre, the WiFi was incredibly slow, access to the rooms was via a single elevator....so all in all not a good stay! There is a small modern coffee shop in the foyer that did could offer coffee and small snacks....the only saving grace.

Bad attention! Nobody knows English in the front desk so imposible to communicate, even for very simple questions like getting a taxi or breakfast time! Carpet is dirty and looks very old fashion! I don’t want to come back here again! Location is the only thing! I think that for the services that they offer the price is should much smaller!

We had to stay within a reasonable distance from the airport, this hotel could see some renovations for sure. Staff were OK but only one spoke some broken English, didn’t sound like it matters for the guest to know what was going on. The shower in VIP wing was spacious. The food was average too. The internet was free but usually didn’t work as expected. Overall average business stay, not terrible but not great either.

Greetings from The Twilight Zone, also known as the Hubei Hotel in Beijing. Just a few more minutes and we’ll be leaving. Departure could not come sooner. It’s not that this is a bad place, it’s just bizarre and a bit depressing. And the WiFi is slow. Upon arrival, the first few impressions of the Hubei are negative. First, it is the terrible lighting. The lobby is not dark. What makes one tense and uncomfortable is the horrible choice of light temperature. Up the elevator to the room and we find the hallways are dark. Again, terrible color. My room was also on the dark side. Even with ALL the lights turned on, there was not enough light. Again, horrible color. The second negative impression is the smell. The air smells like the air that a humidifier blows when the filter needs replacement. That fouled-filter smell is stronger in the hallways and even stronger in the room. The bathroom smelled the worst, as if they just could not ever manage to dry up the water in all the nooks and crannies and then the mildew took over. The third thing one notices is that the hotel needs some tender loving care. Wallpaper is peeling off the walls. Paint is cracking. Plaster is cracking. The carpet in the room needed replacement years ago. The staff of the Hubei could care less about happy guests. They are more concerned with sticking to schedules and processes. And now we enter The Twilight Zone with 2 examples. I'm usually not so long-winded, but this time, I can't help it. The scenes were so bizarre that I had to laugh. I hope you'll get a kick out of them, too. Twilight Zone Scene 1: The Laundry Process I have been on the road for >1 week. I was running out of clean clothes, so I needed to have some laundry done. I stuffed the bag and filled out the form. I was going down to the lobby anyway, so rather than call housekeeping and wait for some unpredictable period of time, I brought the laundry down to the front desk. They did not know how handle it. About 5 of them got together to discuss it. After a few minutes, a man came over to me and said, "You go room. Call staff. Staff pick up." "Or I could just give it to you," I replied. This did not compute. They had another meeting. After a few minutes, a woman appeared, inspected the laundry form and took the laundry. None of them were happy. Twilight Zone Scene 2: The Letters The next morning, I brought some letters for them to mail. Once again, they did not know what to do. The 5 women at the front desk conferred with each other. Then 1 of them handed me her smartphone and said, "You type word." I wrote, "Please mail these letters and charge the postage to my room." She looked at the translation and said, "You want room?" "No. I have room. I would like to mail these letters." Another conference ensued. They did not know what to do. I brought my Chinese colleague to help. After a 5 minute discussion, he told me the conclusion. They need a different envelope to send letters via post. This was odd because I had used the stationery they provided in the room! Anyway, we will not stay here next time in Beijing. Anyway

I stayed for a week in a wing that has better and bigger rooms, American standard. Very much enjoyed the room, the views and the service. Daily cleaning and bed service. Wifi shaky. The breakfast can be very busy with plenty to choose and do avail yourself with the freshly fried noodles from the two ladies behind the counter 0- where you can also order eggs. The food, is it Chinese? I don't know, it's a fusion although there are the beautiful bamboo packed rice cakes. The hotel has a restaurant, slightly drafty and the personnel not English-proficient, but no worries -- friendliness is everywhere. Try Chinese wine -- amazing quality, although I was with a European with a 'subtle' palate who said 'yes this is wine.' Ignore him. The lobby is marble, large and not quite pleasant to hang around; this was winter and the temperature was hovring around 15 c in the lobby. Outside hotel, well, it's just one huge street and building after another, but if you have a Chinese guide, ask them to take you just across the street to visit the humongous National Library, worth more in my view than many 'celebrity' places in Beijing. See my other reviews of Beijing landmarks.

Chinese hotel with clean roms and friendly staff. Easy walk to underground in Beijing and therefore you do not need a car. If you like Chinese food there are several small fastfood like places to eat right outside the hotel. However the food is prima in the hotel and the Chinese breakfast first class :)

Generally a nice experience until checkout, when the hotel tried to charge for too many days, too many rooms, and "a set of sheets" (complete with a receipt showing my name and an unreadable signature) for about 100 US dollars. The total amount they were trying to charge was more than double what was actually owed. 30 minutes of checking and arguing later, the "mistaken" charges were removed from the bill. Whether a mistake or purposeful on their part, not a pleasant way to end a stay.
