What a fantastic place to stay! Riki, Berna and Em are the best hosts. The food was beautiful, lovely home grown vegetables etc. They took great care about our dietery requirements, massive lunch boxes, beautiful homemade biscuits and cakes for smoko's, just lovely. Its so unique to arrive somewhere and be given a car to jump into and drive to the lodge a few minutes from the airstrip and then to hire the car for 2 days at a great rate. Nothing is any hassle for Riki, a very friendly fuuny guy who is always there when needed and always popping in to check things are ok. The first day after a lovely smoko followed by lunch, we drove around the east end of the island ourselves after Riki showed us where various things were on the map. We had a great time, the sun was shining and we saw loads of wildlife plus the stunning white beach. The next day after a good nights sleep, we headed out with other groups and explored the west end of Pebble, visiting the Coventery Cross and various remains of different Argentine aircraft that are scattered around, with talks by Riki at each site. We learnt a lot from Riki about 1982. Beautiful scenery and we had a look in some caves and had lunch on a little beach in amongst the Gentoo penguins, so lovely to be able to do that, the penguins werent bothered at all. My favourite, like everyones elses i am sure are, the little rockhoppers, such characters. Penguins all varieties just everywhere you went, a beautiful experience. Riki, Berna and Em should be proud of how they run such a fantastic business out there. Thankyou and we will be back. Chris & Julio

Back from the Falklands last week and so glad Pebble was on our itinerary. Riki met us at the airstrip which is only a couple of minutes' drive from the lodge. The Pebble Lodge has a cosy, welcoming feel. Like staying in the home of friends. My room was spacious and light, and the bed super comfy. The meals were excellent. Didn't spend much time in the lounge as all the fresh air had me hitting they hay straight after dinner. Riki made sure we wanted for nothing. The trees next to the lodge were indicators of how windy the island can get. On the first day we had an afternoon tour by 4x4 of the eastern part of the island and were lucky enough to see black-necked swans and their cygnets gliding on a pond, as well as a parent Magellanic penguin peeping out of its burrow with its 2 tiny chicks. Lots of penguins and other birds must make this a dream destination for birders and wildlife photographers alike. On the looooong beach a guest from the Lodge had assembled the skeleton of a huge whale that had stranded there a couple of years ago. The smell still lingered as the body was pretty well preserved by the sand. The next day was a full-day tour of the western side, driven by very knowledgeable Josh, both as regards the wildlife and the 1982 War and the background to the wreckage of Argentinian aircraft that we saw. We stopped for our packed lunch by a penguin colony - a perfect spot. I'd happily go back to Pebble Lodge. In fact one couple there were on a return visit and had been staying for a month and loved it.

We originally booked to stay for 3 nights but due to the unpredictable Falklands weather (Fog on the 1st day and gale force winds and storms on the 2nd & 3rd day) we ended up staying 6 nights as all FIGAS flights were cancelled. We couldn't have wished for a better place for an extended stay. Riki is a great host with a dry sense of humour and friendly approachable manner. Nothing was too much trouble for him. The drivers James, Josh and Reece (Who is also the excellent chef) were great. They all had a vast knowledge of the wildlife and the Islands history including the 1982 conflict. There's not too much to see around the lodge so the escorted day tours of the East and West side are a must, although the more experienced 'Birders' amongst fellow guest did venture out on foot. Large rooms with plenty of sockets including USB points. Comfortable lounge with TV and selection of DVD's & Videos plus the usual book selection. There is also an Honesty bar that nearly ran dry due to our enforced extended stay! But I have to add it was well stocked on our arrival.

We booked our week long holiday with Falkland Islands Holidays and after a stopover at Darwin House, we came to Pebble Island Lodge for 2 nights, which was perfect! Pebble is the perfect place to start your trip in the Falklands...especially if you've never been before. Upon our arrival on the grass landing strip in our 8 seater plane, we were collected and driven about 5 minutes to the lodge. The lodge is an old farmhouse that has been added on to, it's very quiet and cozy. The common lobby is stocked with movies, games, books and an honesty bar and has windows all around with lovely green views in December. The dining room is also cozy and clean and a bird was nesting in the tree outside and feeding its young regularly while we were eating! Our rooms here were both twins with en-suite bath, they were large and comfortable, sleeping was quiet and peaceful with only the Falklands wind speaking. The food here was the best of our whole trip! Still thinking about that oreo cheesecake! All of the touring here is guided, and when you get there you understand why! Unless you are a very experienced off-road driver, you would not want to drive yourself, plus there's the location as there's not really a map and no roads, then there's the distance to the penguin colonies which causes you to need to drive! Our first tour was a half day to the 'smaller' half of the island. We saw all 5 species of penguins that day and Josh, our guide, was excellent both at driving and telling us about the wildlife and the island history. Our second day was to the larger side of the island where we again saw all 5 species of penguins and spent quite a bit of time watching the rockhoppers at one location, and some time at the beach where the penguins were. This was the best rockhopper location, especially for photos....you could actually get into the rocks where they were hopping up and there was a large flat light colored space they hopped across which made for a really good background for photos. This was their 'highway' so you could actually quietly sit in the middle of it when none of them were around and then they would just hop around you on their way to/from the colony! What a thrill to get to see these guys so close and watch their funny behavior! This rockhopper spot (where we also ate lunch up-wind!) was our favorite and Josh let us spend as long as we wanted at any spot we visited. There were also interesting War remains on the island Josh would give us the story for as we drove by..we could get out if we wanted to, but we opted not to. That all being said, for people who have been to an island where you walk to everything, this might be a disappointment with all of the driving, but it was an excellent first few nights for us and we loved it!
