This small converted mansion on a street with a variety of embassy flags flying in front of other beautiful homes was surprisingly cheap and decent. For around $30/night, we had double beds, private bathroom and a little patio. Very clean with a staff that was most helpful. Included breakfast is meager (continental) but does have computer access. They have a taxi service and the cabdriver was so prompt, courteous and honest. My husband's wallet fell in the backseat and this driver looked for us all over the airport to return it to us. What a godsend.

Mylene O's review pretty much expresses it to a "T". First, you are met at the airport and way overcharged for a transfer in a vehicle that looks like it may not make it across town -- I'm confident the taxi driver wasn't the beneficiary of the amount the hostal charged for this service. Sad. Then you are forced to pay for your entire stay up front the moment you check in. Rules are posted in the room -- more rules than I've ever had at any place I've stayed. For example, "no refunds for any reason" -- nowhere else in the world is this rule posted IN the room. There was NO electrical outlet in the bathroom. There was one electrical outlet that worked part of the time in the bedroom and there was no mirror near the outlet, so blow drying hair was interesting. The room we had had no windows to the outside, but had windows above the door (which was held together by masking tape) to the interior hallway. There were no coverings on the high windows, and the light in the hall shined directly into the room, making nighttime seem like daytime. Breakfast was pathetic. Coffee was instant, and free, BUT if you wanted a second cup you would need to pony up a dollar. Breakfast starts at 8 a.m. sharp, and don't even think of asking for your allotted cup of instant coffee before 8 a.m. We reserved a matrimonial room. Upon arrival, we were told there were two beds in our assigned room and if we used the second bed, we would be charged the fee of a room with two beds in it instead of just one. Want to check out late? Be ready to pay, cause they won't extend the courtesy, this is also written on the "rules" posted in the room. What's good about it? It's pretty from the outside and it is in a good location.

We stayed here for two nights, one on either end of our trip to Lima and it was great. The arranged pick-up from the airport was prompt. The driver (Victor) was there and was very patient and helpful as we had a problem with our cash card at the airport. He was also great about our other transfers to the airport, even very early in the morning (4am for our flight to Cusco).

The actual hostal was great too. I was nervous on the way there, passing through some rough neighborhoods, but it is located on a nice quiet street. The other houses on the street are beautiful and again, it is quiet! It is within walking distance to many plazas, museums and restaurants and cheap cab fare to Miraflores, which is a great place to go in Lima (if you get a chance to spurgle on a restaurant, we highly recommend La Rosa Nautica, which is on a pier on the ocean-awesome food!)

Our rooms were nice, clean and had hot showers! One of the rooms didn't have great water pressure in the shower, but the other one we had was perfect. The staff was helpful; the grounds are locked so it is safe. We kept our luggage there safely for a week also. We didn't eat breakfast. They do have free internet.

Our family of four spent two nights-- one as we arrived on a late flight to Lima, and another when we were heading back out, and on both occasions the Posada del Parque helped us catch our breath in the frantic planes-and-taxis moments of arrival and departure. The staff arranged airport pick-up the first night, which was helpful, and the room was adequate, but not charming. The 4 beds were packed into the little room, so we hadn't much extra space, but we were heading right back to the airport in less than 8 hours, anyway.
When we returned a couple of weeks later, the experience was completely different. We grabbed our own taxi (which was cheaper) and when we saw the Posada in the daylight, we were delighted! Our room this time-- #2 was larger, with 14' ceilings, windows, and a big, clean bathroom. The hotel is nicely decorated, and has a lovely breakfast room we left too early to get to enjoy. La Posada's staff is professional and courteous, and gave us a great lunch recommendation. Because the building is located at the end of a nice, verdant cul-de-sac, it is reasonably quiet, but it's just 30 minutes from the airport during traffic, and 10 or 15 minutes in the early hours; from the front door, it's a short walk to restaurants, embassies, and the Art Museum's plaza. A good value for Lima, and a nice way to begin and end a trip.

This hostel is beautiful, in the perfect location. At the end of a cul de sack called Parque Hernan Verardes which is a park with trees down the centre with big houses all around. It was recommended by South American Explorers Club. because it gives the the idea of what it is like to live in a big old house in the centre of Lima. The house itself is in very good condition and it looks magnificent. it was obviously once a loved home and the public areas are full of art and interesting artefacts, It could have been a lovely experience staying here but the management are incredibly stingy and mean spirited. I was asked to pay upfront for my three day stay, as soon as I arrived. No other hostel in Peru or elsewhere asked for this. it was unnecessary, distrustful and unwelcoming.

My room was downstairs next to the front door.with a view of the park. It could have been a lovely room . All it needed to feel welcoming was new sheets and bed cover and if they could bring themselves to push the boat out, new curtains. The sheets were clean but of a greeny grey that makes them look filthy. The bed cover was the same, good quality once, but so old and of such a miserable shade of maroon that it looked filthy too. I was provided with one towel barely bigger than a hand towel. it all looked like they just didn't care.
The decoration in the room consisted of three framed typed officious documents, setting out rules and regulations. Nowhere else felt it necessary to do this.
so a very lovely hostel has spoiled itself for the want of a little trust and generosity.

breakfast wasn't worth the effort of getting out of bed - a cup of hot water and and instant powder coffee sachet and one and a half bread rolls. Half a bread roll?? How stingy can you get! The jam came in minuscule little containers, butter ditto. I waited 15 minutes to be even given this, even though I was the only person in the breakfast room Not nice, Not friendly.
It's in a good location and it's fine for a night but not a pleasure.

I am just back from my second trip in Peru, this was my second stay at La Posada del Parque, I have travel extensively thru the world, seen a lot of rooms, met a lot of hotel staff, I must say that this place really makes me feel at home. The owner and staff are really helpful. I first went to La Posada del Parque on a recommendation from a friend and I have, after my first visit recommended this place to some other friends, all had only good things to say, all would go back, Peru is such a nice country, Lima its capital is such a nice city and La Posada del Parque is a good place to recuperate after a long trip in traveling to Peru and when you have to return to Lima before taking your flight out. I really appreciated the taxi service picking me up at a very late hour (If you go to Lima read up on taxi safety, even the locals agree, you need to be careful!!)

I stayed at "La Posada del Parque" for 2 nights in June 2006.

Reservations at "La Posada del Parque" in Lima require full payment via Western Union sent to a private person. When I declined, the owner agreed to let me pay upon arrival.

Although in Central Lima, the location is less than desirable as it is far from Plaza de Armas and the main attractions, so you need to get a cab to get there.
There are no stores nearby, other than a shabby, tiny convenience store where you can get bottled water.

I got room number 4, which was worn-out, dark and close to the reception. Despite being tired tired from the long trip and having earplugs, I couldn't sleep all night because of the noise: banged doors, people talking loudly at the entrance.

Next day I asked for another room and the staff was accomodating. I got the room called "Bodega", which has a separate entrance. This room was quiter, but still very dark and worn.

A single room with private bath goes for $US 27, breakfast an additional $US 3. A few weeks later I stayed at a similar hostal (in a better location) for $US 15, breakfast included (HomePeru.).

The transport from the airport, arranged by the staff at "La Posada del Parque", is more expensive than anywhere else. From the airport to the hostal, in Central Lima, I paid $ US 13, while from the airport to Miraflores, which is farther, I subsequently paid only $US 10.

A recommended cab compani is Taxi Movil, which charges 35 soles to the airport and are curteous.

Response from Posadalima, Gerente at La Posada del Parque
Responded 17 Dec 2010

This place is not charming or quaint. It is cold, damp, noisy and barren. Don't believe the reviews that say its friendly and offers an adequate breakfast. Breakfast is a roll and instant coffee. The staff is tired and unfriendly. For a few bucks more you'll do much better than this place. Give it a pass.

We were very disappointed by this place during our stay in Lima.
First, an unfriendly welcome at our arrival ... and they asked us to pay the totality of our stay before even entering the room (it is the only time we had this situation in three weeks in Peru !).
The room had nothing special and the breakfast was bad and unconsistent : 2 toasts, a very small dosis of marmelade/butter, orange juice in powder ...
Moreover, the rules of this hotel (posted in the room) are incredible, just an example : if you check in before noon you will be charge 50% more during the low season and 100% during high season (one more night for just a few hours !). Fortunately, we were not in this hotel at our early arrival in Lima and had the chance to have our room at 7AM without additional charge in the Hotel Kamana.
Finally, during the check-out, the manager was (for the first and only time) nice with us ... and asked us to put a favorable review on the web ... so we did it !
