We travel to Bucharest four times a year as my mother in law lives here, but we normally stay at my mother in law’s house rather than a hotel. However, as it was her birthday, my wife and I decided to treat her to a night out, a spa treatment, and an overnight stay. I have to say that I was very impressed with the hotel, boutique independent hotels can be hit and miss, but this one was a big hit. The moment we arrived by cab on this quiet side street, the doorman / concierge greeted us with a friendly and professional manner. The reception team were excellent, and we were shown up to a delightful two bedroom suite on the sixth floor. The room was very spacious (605) with a separate living room, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms. The best part was a large terrace / balcony where, as smokers, we could enjoy a cigarette. I have seen other reviews that say the view from the balcony is bad but the view is just wonderful Bucharest. True, you are not overlooking a park or something picturesque, but downtown Bucharest is a collection of old derelict buildings combined with newer developments, pre and post communism styles, and this is what you expect to see on a balcony in this City! It was lovely and it was secluded. My wife and mother in law went to the spa and had massages and reported back that the space and the experience was fabulous. In the meantime I went for a walk around the historic park just around the corner (the hotel offered me a push bike but I fancied the walk). We had a few friends over to celebrate my mother in law’s birthday in the hotel restaurant for dinner. This was a lovely experience. A shame for the hotel that the restaurant was very quiet, however I can’t emphasise enough how much we enjoyed the food! The wine list was extensive, we didn’t order extravagantly but what we had was really good quality. The food was delicious. I have seen other posts about the portion sizes being small, and this is true if compared to local, more economical restaurants. However, after three course we were all rather full and could eat no more. I think the menu is chosen really well and put together with a lot of thought so that you get filling meals rather than just quantity. My main course was the lamb sirloin which was cooked to perfection, melted in the mouth, and was absolutely delicious! The hotel has two terraces, in front of the bar and restaurant, where you can relax with a cigarette between courses. I did have a complaint when, after we had paid the bill we realised that they had not applied the 10% discount give to hotel residents. A slightly heated (on my part) but well mannered disagreement ensued with the restaurant manager which was resolved quickly in offering us a complimentary breakfast the next day to the same value as the discount would have been. This was a misunderstanding, we hadn’t pointed out that we were residents, and they hadn’t asked. One of those things, but resolved very well. A couple of us had a drink at the bar after dinner, which was great, and with really nice service. The room was lovely, a really great nice sleep on a comfortable bed. We went for breakfast the next day to find the most amazing and smiley waiter who could not do enough for us. The food, salmon and eggs on toast with a side of avocado, was just perfection. And the service from that waiter (sorry, didn’t get his name) was above and beyond, and made the end of the stay fabulous! Overall, a really beautiful hotel, trying to do something nice and different with extreme quality in the heart of Bucharet. Go book it!…
