This Inn has several positives & some negatives comparable to many other Tripp’s c taken and places stayed.. POSITIVES: large room, nice lobby, friendly lobby staff & van drivers. Clean pool area, grab & go breakfast option, van to beach, comfy beds NEGATIVES: room was outdated and wallpaper in bathroom dirty, stains on chair, room card kept uncharging due to near cell but no one told us why until the day we left, same breakfast 2 days in a row, 3rd day new option but we were leaving for ferry too early to sit, van times don’t always work for dinner hours with kids but we used Uber, no info at check in regarding bike rentals etc.
A great place to stay! Some reviews call this place outdated but to us it was rustic and very fitting for where you are staying (an ISLAND in MA, settled on in 1641!) The cottage we stayed in felt like one of the small cottages you see in Sconset. The entire place made as many accommodations as they could during COVID times. Being 3 miles outside of town was fine with several shuttles running back & forth. Plenty of parking for cars, mopeds and bicycles. To us the real 5 star rating has to go to the entire staff at The Nantucket Inn!! Everyone we had an interaction with was always charming and very eager to help in anyway they could! Our appreciation and thanks go out to all that work a The Inn!! Thank you for making this a place we will return to!!
In view of the pandemic conditions, it is only fair that hotels be given a break for missing amenities, but this review is based on factors apart from them. We are very experienced visitors to Nantucket. Usually we rent a house, but this year, due to other trips being canceled , we planned this trip too late to find anything good. We knew some of the limitations of hotel living for a two-week period, such as the inability to cook and the constant eating out and were prepared for that. This hotel requires two weeks’ notice to receive ANY refund at all, exactly the same amount of time that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires many out of state visitors to quarantine for two weeks unless you have received a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of arrival in the state. This was a bit daunting, as we knew nothing about quarantine enforcement there, but we jumped through that hoop via online testing anyway. This new regulation was imposed by the governor exactly two weeks before our trip. We had to decide THAT DAY whether to chance it and potentially lose thousands of dollars or to obtain a refund from the hotel. We opted to go for it and it worked out ok. The hotel is located right across the street from the Nantucket Memorial Airport in the middle of the island, so you need transportation to go anywhere and nothing is within easy walking distance. Again, we knew this in advance and had rented a Jeep to go to the beaches and to town. The hotel provides an adequate shuttle service to town and back on an hourly basis. Most of the hotel amenities are not available, all purportedly due to COVID, including the bar and the indoor pool, but also room service. When that is combined with no microwave in the room, and no coffee pot, guests are limited to the breakfast provided in the main building to obtain ANY sort of food or drink. Without a car, this is a real handicap. The hotel breakfast is ok, with a very limited selection. The hot foods were not very tasty, so you learn which ones to avoid. The staff was also meh. Some were friendly, but again, under the COVID cover, it was mostly them giving, rather than taking, orders, where to stand, masks, etc. Nobody we met was upbeat or hospitable. The whole mask thing is quite arbitrary, as it is most places. For example, at the outdoor pool - small, but ok - one must wear a mask to enter the gate or speak to the man at the very limited concession stand, but not otherwise. There are 14 chairs for guests. Our airline changed our flight time for departure from 10 am to 4 pm while we there, leaving us with idle hours on our last day. Given that most of the rooms were empty and housekeeping was not busy, we requested to pay a fee for a much later checkout. The best they could offer was 1pm, and weren’t very nice about it. That said, because we are familiar with the island, its restaurants and its varied beaches AND had the foresight to rent a Jeep, which are in very short supply in August, we had a great vacation despite these obvious limitations. …
I’ve stayed 2 nights at this hotel and it’s in a terrible need of a makeover. The fake plastic flowers in the lobby and the outdated furniture and bad lighting make for a long visit. The women working the front desk had a horrible demeanor and doesn’t need to be working with people. I would discourage anyone from staying here
The hotel is across from the airport but it was fine. I was worried at first. The room was big. The beds were comfortable. The outside pool was small, but nice. There was a shuttle downtown, which is nice. The staff was friendly. We were allowed to check in early, which we greatly appreciated. The room was very clean, It was an easy bicycle ride from the ferry. We also rode our bikes easily to Surfside Beach, We will go back.
