Nice quiet garden courtyard that all rooms face. Coffee and tea on your terrace. Easy walking to the river and the main streets for shopping eating and people watching. Owner will pick you up at the airport for a small fee and can arrange tours or bus tickets for your onward travel. Would stay there again even though there are a lot of options.

So the situation is like this: If you stay on the river you'll find it too noisy (unless you are a heavy sleeper); if you stay in a typical wooden hotel you'll hear every move from the upstairs rooms. So after a bit of trial and error we moved from the Apsara to The Wooden House, and were very happy we did. The Wooden House is a small hotel, with only 6 rooms, a nice patio and sitting areas where you can relax. Because it is off the main street it is quiet, and because the upstairs rooms have been carpeted you don't hear the noise from above. The owner was extremely accommodating. We arrived without a reservation and got a downstairs room for the first 2 nights, a room in another hotel across the street for the 3rd night, an upstairs room for the 4th night, and another downstairs room for the rest of our stay. Since we travel light this was not a problem, and we became experts in all the double rooms (see tips). Breakfast was better than usual and we enjoyed sitting in the patio and chatting with the other guests. Highly recommended.

We spent three nights in this lovely family-run guesthouse. The rooms are simple but perfectly adequate and included a safe. The breakfast in their courtyard was lovely with fruit freshly cut and eggs cooked to request. The location is very good with plenty of bars and restaurants only a few minutes away, but still very peaceful at night even though only one block back from the main street. We also went on a couple of personalised tours, one was a 3 hour trek to Kuang Si waterfall, and another one elephant riding, which will both live long in the memory. Overall a very friendly and helpful family and excellent value.

A beautiful retreat but still iclose to major attraction. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The owner took me to the waterfuls on a private tour which allowed me to choose where I wanted to go. Breakfast was great and large size meal,The rooms are very clean and have an excellent shoser.

It's close to the main street, the night market and the key temples around town. The monks procession even passes by the hotel. It's equidistant from both ends of town and it's on the middle of the 3 main streets. It's central! The staff are friendly and sincere, the rooms spacious and clean and the carpet soft under foot. The only problem is there is no sound proofing between the walls. I felt like the guests next door were in another room attached to mine bc I could hear their conversations all to clearly. Apart from this, Lao Wooden House is a sound choice.

Just got back from Luang Prabang where my husband and I stayed at Lao Wooden House for a week. Our room was charming, very clean, the staff were gracious and helpful. Vuong, the owner, was marvelous organizing day trips for us, driving us to the mountains where we started day long treks with guides he hired in remote villages. The location is superb - on a side street so very quiet (except for the roosters!), and minutes away from the night market, wonderful restaurants, shops, surrounded by temples, and steps away from the Mekong. After 3 days of substantial Western breakfasts we asked if we could have a typical Lao breakfast instead. Vuong very happily arrived the next morning with steaming enormous bowls of broth packed with veggies and meat - I recommend it highly!

This is a great base camp for discovering Northern Laos.

When we had our first breakfast at Lao Wooden House I said to my husband that Vong (owner) must have traveled abroad. Our breakfast was one of the best I have had in Asia where we have traveled extensively. I do remember the Four Season in Bangkok as topping Vong’s breakfast but that is the only one! The baguettes tasted like Paris, the muffin was moist and flavorful, the coffee was even good, something that is most difficult to find in Asia. Being from the state of Washington where coffee is king, I am real particular about my coffee. Eggs were to order to your liking. We had fresh pineapple and real fruit juice. It turns out that Vong worked 18 years for a French company that owns a five star hotel in Luang Prabang. It shows! The place is spotless, very clean. The service is tops, the room we had (202) was quite large with a wonderfully comfortable bed which is hard to find in Asia. I loved the architecture of the building with the dark wood walls. Although dark, they gave off a warm atmosphere. The bathroom was a good size. We had great TV reception with multiple channels in many languages. We arranged a half day trip to the Kwang Si waterfalls and Vong was our driver in a very comfortable truck with lots of leg room. Vong is friendly and outgoing and a great resource in terms of recommendations for restaurants, shops or services such as massage. You can’t go wrong with this little five star guesthouse!

I’d booked this guesthouse on recommendations from other TA members.
The booking was made via Agoda a few days before we landed in LP.
We requested a pick up from the airport in the original booking form with Agoda. Then thought nothing more of it, thinking, for the estimated $7 tuk-tuk fee from the airport to town was no biggie if the pick up didn’t happen to eventuate. I was surprised to exit the airport to see a sign with our names on it. Well done LWH, the fee for the pick up was $8 and well worth it in my opinion.

We enjoyed the breakfast and location but found the rooms a little dark, a little bare and a little expensive.

Firstly, the location is perfect. Peaceful street that's just around the corner from the main street and river. Breakfast here was simple and lovely that varied slightly each day. The owner and his staff (and sons) were helpful and welcoming. The owner gave great tips and we hired him to drive us to the waterfall and to the airport for a good price. I enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were clean and comfy. Walls are thin, but we had no issues. Would definitely recommend to others

We stayed at this guesthouse and we found that all the remarks made in previous reviews proved accurate. The rooster crowed on schedule, the drums beat exactly on time and our upstairs carpeted room was somewhat small and dark. No surprises at all. It is a well run guesthouse with clean rooms, hot water and good breakfasts. We had just come from 6 weeks in Vietnam and found the price high for what we got in the room. The room just seemed a little basic for $50 per night. We shopped around and found similar in a close by area for $15 less. I know Luang Probang is known to be a little higher on rooms rates however it also had a glut of guesthouses. This seemed a little overpriced. Shop around. If this room was $10-15 less I would rate it a 5 but at the present price it is a 4.
