Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Chose to stay here because of the rave reviews but found the place pretty average. The room I stayed in was quite noisy with sounds of other guests from the room above and outside. Breakfast wasn't great. 2 over-cooked eggs and a bread roll. Staff were friendly and helpful.

I stayed for a number of months at this hotel, so I know it well. It's the best hotel I've found in Luang Prabang. The managers, a Vietnamese couple named Hoa and Geuang, are very friendly and helpful, and Hoa (the wife) speaks pretty good English. The staff was always helpful. The rooms are relatively roomy (compared to most hotels in LPB), and have an excellent shower, an adequate bed (mattress on the firm side, but ok), an ok AC (a Thai brand), and adequate furniture (a nice, roomy wardrobe, a desk, a medium-size frig, and some small tables). The room I was in (on the first floor) was surprisingly cool most of the time, I think due to being in the shade. One word of warning: if you want to leave anything in the hotel freezer, be sure to label it with your name clearly. I made the mistake of putting an unmarked item (an ice pack) in the freezer, and it disappeared.

We had a great time at Villa Rattanakon in Luang Prabang. The room was pretty spacious with an extra single bed. Everything was clean and tidy. Breakfast that was included was delicious and filling, you get to chose from a few different options. They also organise tours to the waterfalls and transport to your next destination which we did through them. They also have free bikes to ride around town. Best thing about this place was its close proximity to the night market, only a 5 minute walk max.

We spent 4 nights here and the staff were very nice and organized. The rooms are large and clean. The selection for breakfast was good in my opinion. Eggs cooked any way you like with warm soft bread and fruit. The smoothies are very nice and so was the banana pancake. The bed was large but on the firm side and the towels and sheets could have been cleaner. I can say our stay was nice and the location is in walking distance of many attractions

Pros: Location Decent breakfast- would be great if they stopped giving plastic straws Bikes available free of charge (although I only found out on the last night I was there, they never mentioned it at check in). Cons: Terribly slow wi-fi Hard as a rock mattress to the point that it gives you a backache Noisy AC in room Noisy construction next door that starts very early in the morning and lasts all day No bedside lamps for reading Don’t book transport from the airport through them, at the airport you pay 50,000 while they charge you 60,000. I booked a trip to Kuang Si with them and since I was the last one to be picked up I had to sit in the back of the van, in between someone that occupied 1 1/2 seats. They also didn’t tell me that the van would not drop me back at the hotel but somewhere else and that I’d have to walk back. I booked the van to Vang Vieng through them too because the rate was good and they were able to get me a front seat.

Villa Rattanakon is a small hotel, only five minutes walk away from the night market (the same area as the National Museum and the long stretch of cafes). The hotel has a very friendly lady, ready to help you at the reception. She speaks good English and even briefs you on all great locations to visit while marking everything on a map which you can use throughout your Luang Prabang trip. The hotel provides two small water bottles complimentary daily, two bicycles you can borrow if available, and the room is cleaned on a daily basis. It is very conveniently located, and is 5 minutes away from the night market stretch, and 10 minutes from the pub area (Lao Lao Garden), Cafe Kopenoi (which housed some great paintings from local artists which you can view for free and a free movie night on a daily basis. You only need to buy one food item or drink to watch the movie for free.). You will also see another beautiful art gallery on this stretch and entry is free.To get to Utopia you have to walk a bit further in from Lao Lao Garden, but is still only around 20 minutes away from the Hotel. You can easily borrow a bike from the hotel and get there faster. The breakfast menu includes around seven food options along the likes of scrambled eggs, sausages and a side dish of fruits. You can choose a drink as well from a range of mango milkshake, banana milkshake, and a variety of juices. The hotel staff even arranges tuk tuks, and vans at your discretion to visit the main tourist attractions. It is always recommended to arrange your own tours in Luang Prabang for efficiency's sake without signing up for a group tour. In that case, this hotel staff is extremely helpful and arranges transport for even lower than the general rate within Luang Prabang. They even arranged transport to and from the airport which cost us 60,000 Kip per trip. Some taxis at the Airport charge 50,000 Kip and are freely available, but it was just more convenient and safer to get everything arranged by the hotel themselves. The room was cozy, clean, the bathroom had the basic amenities including a hot water shower. The room was surprisingly spacious as we only paid 90 USD for 3 nights and definitely didn't expect this level of service. The only downside is that the walls are very thin, and if the guests are loud, it will definitely disturb a good night's sleep or your attempts to meditate. Overall definite value for money. Not to forget, the occasional lime juices they offer are refreshing as well.

New & large room, large bathroom with high quality accessories. Value for money. Air con is powerful so room becomes cold fast. New and large towels. Fast and stable wifi in room. Our room is on the 2nd floor. Coffee can be made on the same floor outside room, at the corner with tables and chairs. In front of each room also has a table and 2 chairs. Thanks for packing our breakfast boxes as we checked out before breakfast time. We booked this hotel as it is new, has high rating and has bicycles for guests to use at no extra cost. We rode to Bannaluang Bus Station 5km away to see bus timetable, rode to riverside, night market and morning market. Hotel is still new so bicycles are new too. Hotel is a bit far from night market, near a temple but is good for the price. And I love the Lao style of leaving our shoes at the door gate so we don't bring dirt into the house.

The hotel is not exactly located in the old town - at least 10-15 min walk away, in a quiet neighbourhood that has nothing much to do. The staff is friendly and helpful which kinda makes up to the simple facilities of accommodation which is quite a bare minimum. The so called balcony is a actually shared corridor with a table and chairs.. but at least some outdoor space. Breakfast is not bad - quite a variety and quantity. In the room that I stayed in, the power had tripped a few times. The bathroom and shower facilities can be improved. I had an unpleasant incidence when I arrived as I could not find the driver that the hotel has assigned and had to find my own way here. The driver even argued he was there but the hotel did apologise. Another thing is not sure if it's all the hotels practice (but not for the shops I came across), they charged 3 per cent for credit card payment. But overall it wasn't a bad experience just that I would definitely choose another hotel in town if I revisit Luang Prabang.

Villa Rattanakon is a little guesthouse close to the city centre. It takes about 5min to get to the night market and 15 to the most famous temples of the city. Rooms are clean and quite spacious, although a bit dark. The bathroom is similar to most bathrooms in southeast asia. A bit dark and as there is no shower curtain the whole room gets wet during showering. However thats just a detail. Stuff was very nice and friendly and gave us bicycles and umbrellas for free to use! We had breakfast every day on the balcony and it was very nice. I would definitely recommend this guesthouse.
