My wife and I stayed at the Lan Kham guesthouse for 4 nights in march.

The guesthouse is situated on the banks of the Mekong river near the heart of the tourist centre of Luang Prabang.

We were greeted by the owners daughters who helped us to our room which was small but clean. Be advised that there is not a lot of storage or hanging space which means living out of your bag, but we were cool with that but it was a slight negative.

The bed was comfortable but the pillows were a little too big so we had to do a little rearranging of the decorative throw pillows to suit our necks!

The bathroom was a wet room and had a powerful hot shower which was nice at end of a long day wandering the streets and temples.

Our room also had a balcony overlooking the river but we preferred to sit on the river terrace area for breakfast which is an excellent vantage point to watch sunset. Having said that there are many other restaurants and outdoor bars here for sunset.

Breakfast was included in our rate and for us it was eggs and the local sausage on a baguette with tea, coffee or OJ. I am sure there were other choices but I was hungry!

Mrs Bousasavanh who ran the guesthouse and i think it was her two daughters were great. They spoke very good English and took care of our valuables for the entirety our stay free of charge. They also arranged for a tuk tuk to take us to the airport and even gave us a bag of tangerines for the trip.

All In all we had a great time in Luang Prabang and this is due in part to our stay at the Lan Kham.

Highlights of the town for us:
Climb Mount  from the main street and descend on the other side to see many more religious relics, temples and Buddha's footprint!

Utopia is a chilled out bar on the Nam Kham river. Very chilled and has a great bamboo balcony to lounge out on... Our favourite place. Long list of food and drinks served by great staff.

Spa Garden for a massage and cuppa tea. Tranquil and a little hidden from the main tourist street but worth it.

Did not want to leave! Absolutely wonderful hotel experience here. The boutique hotel is in a beautiful area, right on the river, and 5 minutes walking distance from the town of Luang Prabang. The staff, however, made the experience what it was. The main woman who was working when I was there was named Na, and she was one of the nicest, most helpful people I had met on my trip. While Laos is known for its friendly people, she went above expectations. She booked me all my excursions, including my trip to the waterfalls and elephant camp. My room was spacious, had great wifi, a large bed, and was super clean. I would absolutely stay here on your trip, as you are guaranteed to be taken care of here. 5 stars!

This is a nice little hotel overlooking the Mekong. We had a double room with a balcony overlooking the Mekong. Although the rooms are a bit small they are clean, tastefully done and have everything needed such as wifi, soaps, towels, TV etc. Nice wooden finishings. The staff is a little low on English, but they are very friendly and helpful. They gave us fruit juice while we were checking in and also every afternoon when we would come back from sight seeing. The large breakfast which is taken by the river is great. You, will not leave hungry. Banana pancakes, eggs, cereals, yoghurt, fruit plate etc. Even though it is on the street, the street has such small amount of traffic it is not noisy at all especially at night. A nice friendly clean little hotel by the river.

Very poor service! Despite booking weeks in advance and receiving a conformation from the hotel they decided to wait until we were on our journey to email us that the could not honour our booking as they had double booked our room!!! We have since heard this is not unusual for this hotel as they take the person who pays the most $. We found another wonderful hotel close by which was cheaper and a better standard so we were lucky. You have been warned!

I stayed here for 1 week whilst travelling with my gf across SouthEast Asia - this place was perfect for a rest from the road and a chance to enjoy Luang Prabang.

Whilst perhaps not quite as upmarket as some of the surrounding hotels - the service I received was as good as a 5* Hotel - staff really cared and even took us by Motorbike to make sure we made our bus after another tour company forgot to pick us up. They accepted no money for this service and it required 2 staff members to drive across the whole city to ensure we made our bus to China! Remarkable service and a good example of the level of service we got here.

The rooms were clean and tidy - although I recommend the upstairs rooms (we stayed here twice - once upstairs and once downstairs) the view of the river is great to enjoy a beer on your private balcony or just watch the world go by!

Breakfast was great and the location is spot on - lots of great food around and for the more adventurous you can climb up Mount Phousi and then down to the nightmarket - great exercise and a unforgettable view. Laung Prabang is tiny (I should mention I live in China) so don't get too caught up on location - go for character, good service, friendly staff - this hotel has these in abundance and is suitable for the mid-range or flash-packer traveler!

Had a three night stay in their Family room. The location was really great, not to busy and not to quiet. A short walk to most of the key places.
Although we only saw the walls out both windows, the room was clean; bed sheet, blankets, towels etc. Breakfast was serve in a good private area overlooking the Mekong. The staff was friendly and helpful. Overall a pleasant stay.

We booked beforehand based on photos and reviews. Turned out to be a great location, with dining/breakfast overlooking the Mekong river. Our room was on street level in the front and a bit small and noisy. We asked to move to a different room and loved our second story room -- much quieter -- in the back, overlooking quiet picturesque alley. Front desk folks happy to help us. Our only three day stay in one place during our three week trip! Glad it was here.

Great location and room was reasonably clean and staff was friendly. I had a view room that was a little bigger than my double bed but had a nice small balcony overlooking the river. Some of the twin rooms in the back looked far bigger. Easy to walk everywhere so I’d give a top mark for location.

WiFi didn’t work and the attitude was not helpful. It’s supposed to work. Oh well. Shrug.

Breakfast had a brilliant location on the river with a great view but was horrible. If the toast met a toaster one was lucky. The bread was barely warm. Coffee was instant and make your own. I brought my own food to the breakfast that was ‘included’ in the room cost. It was so bad that I never considered eating dinner there. The only thing to eat was a banana pancake which was cooked well.

Another review mentioned the stained linens. While the towels were definitely high quality, plush and not worn, they must have been purchased from an auction from some hotel that was getting rid of its stained towels. I know they were clean as you could smell the laundry soap but they were disgusting visually.

The staff were sweet and helpful. The room was relatively inexpensive but given the countless guesthouses in the area you may be able to get much more for your money.

Ideally located on the Mekong River, this outdoor restaurant whilst not fance is a great spot for lunch or dinner. Whilst the server struggled a bit with understanding our English, the menu is easier enough to point and show what you want to eat.
Amazing roast port, fantastic local pork sausage and yummy rice and noodle dishes were our favourites, so much that we ate here 3 times during our stay.

Sorry to delay I thought that I had booked such a room and ended up with side room. I suggest you contact them directly with that request and not just go through a booking agent. Great location in the fabulous Luang Prabang. Enjoy

Yes they will get you either, tuk tuk or taxi. We preferred the tuk tuk , the staff are very obliging and will go out of their way to help with all your needs.
