With this hotel, you have to be very careful. We were specific with our agent we wanted to stay in the central, in town, location (the other location was outside town and they have a shuttle service from both locations). Our guide brought us to the in-town location and the front desk said we were booked for the outside town location. We dug in and asked our guide to get in touch with our agent. After realizing we were not going to be moved, they (our agent, sub-agent and hotel front desk) found us a room in the annex across the street, although not the ideal room type. We have to say that the hotel is rather delightful, quaint, very spacious and was worth fighting for. My wife woke up early to see the monks in their daily ceremonial alms ritual. There was a lavish wedding across the street with about a 1,000 guests. The location is close to the market where there is food and souvenirs to be bought. Breakfast is a la carte, with pretty much whatever you want.

The frontage and reception area of this hotel is superb, checking in was quick with a welcome drink We had arrived on the evening of new year and we were pleased to see that the hotel had a new year dinner which was a 5 course meal with a glass of wine for 32 US dollars and was excellent.

There is a small pool to the rear of reception which has chairs and a couple of tables around it. We didn’t see anyone use it as a swimming pool. We did however make use of the courtesy hotel shuttle one afternoon to visit the sister hotel that is located out of town, it was lovely. There was a large swimming pool with sun beds etc set in beautiful gardens and country side vistas.

Our room at Villa Santi was basically a disappointment, it was in an annex across the road from the main building about 30 metres away. The actual building looked run down by comparison to the main building although there were outside and balcony seating. The room was an ok size and had good storage and AC. There is a fridge in the room which was noisy and the seal was very dirty. The room including furniture could do with a serious up date .

The bathroom had a shower in the bath, no nonslip mat and frankly I have seen better showers in a backpacker's hostel . We were also disappointed with the quality of the bathroom toiletries. The room itself was not particularly clean . The mattress on the bed had seen better days and was not very comfortable.

The main building in contrast is an architectural gem. In addition to reception and the Princess Dining Room it houses about 5 bedrooms which we have not seen internally nor have we seen these rooms advertised.

Breakfast was served in the dining room with some tables on the veranda overlooking the front of the hotel . The breakfast was limited fruit choice, less than exciting and no yogurt available although eggs were cooked to order.

The best thing about this hotel was the location, set in the old town within easy walking distance of some major attractions. There is also a plethora of bars, restaurants and shops nearby.

Entering the hotel is like entering an old hotel set in the Indian foothills. Lots of old dark brown wood giving it a lovely atmosphere. Set in semi jungle it was like going back in time with up to date facilities. Grounds were very well kept with small streams running thro' them. Rooms very good and comfortable though the bathrooms could do with a bit of TLC as regards the grouting! Overall very good and definately recommended.

Not impressed. The room itself was fine although the mattress was too soft for my liking. I prefer a firm bed.

I'm a middle aged woman who dresses in a relaxed fashion and was treated as such. My first night, someone arrived under the guise of 'turning down my bed.' She was clearly checking out the room to see that I wasn't up to mischief - she even opened the bathroom door to peek in. My bed wasn't turned down on any evening after that.

When I went to check out, I was asked to wait until they checked my room which took about 10 minutes. I found the whole process patronising and rude.

For $150 Australian dollars per night, I felt the place was overpriced, the staff were aloof and I was basically ignored (when they weren't checking up on me).

I spent the rest of the week in Rimvang Guesthouse which cost 1/4 of the price. While the room wasn't as good at Rimvang, the staff were warmer, friendlier and way more attentive.

We spent three nights here. We used their prompt laundry service. The hotel gardens are out of this world. Swimming pool looked good. Poor internet. Room looked a little tired particularly the bathroom. Lots of mosquitoes. Awful WiFi. Heavy rain in afternoons limited time outside. Free shuttle bus into town.

Couple of point on the villa:-

1. Actually on the Main Street and very close to the night market and also the river.

2. Breakfast and food was excellent but a overpriced compared to Luang Prabang.

3. Very spacious rooms and helpful staffs.

We were booked for 6 nights at the Villa Santi Hotel but left after the 2nd night (and only stayed that long because there was not another hotel room in town). The staff couldn't care less about the guests, and are completely ill-equipped to run the hotel. When we checked in we were told 'you pay now'. We queried what this meant exactly, but the front desk clerk just kept repeating 'you pay now'. We asked for an English-speaking person to help us and the manager explained that it was 'hotel policy' to pay up-front for our 6 night stay, and that if we then decided to check out early we could get our money refunded on our credit card, less 5% that 'the bank charges'. I have never stayed in a hotel that requires payment up front, especially considering that they had our credit card details to guarantee the room. This was the first indication that there was something wrong with this hotel.

Our room was in the new building, across the street from the main building. Apparently these are the 'big, nice rooms', but they are not. They are also extremely dark and dreary, with the fixtures falling off the walls in the (not clean) bathroom. In general the room was dirty. The hotel in general looks like it hasn't had any TLC in awhile, with the walls of the restaurant dirty and in need of a paint job, hardly any landscaping on the original grounds (and this is the tropics, it's not hard for plants to grow here) and generally no attention to the details that contribute to a nice environment.

When we asked to change some money into small bills we were told no, they didn't have any. Again this is not what one expects from a good hotel.

We didn't pay up front, and checked out after 2 days to move back to the original hotel we were in (which was wonderful - the Apsara). At $160 a night this hotel is ridiculously overpriced, but even at $50 it would not be worth it. There are many better options.

I stayed in the newer annex building, an attractive building on very well-maintained grounds. There was even a security person at the entrance, though Luang Prabang is so safe that it was surely not needed, but added a level of comfort. More than once, I noticed passers-by stop to admire the grounds. A European couple also came in to take photos. My room came with fresh fruit daily, a nice touch of service. The rooms are decorated in a French colonial period and are somewhat dim. If light is important to you, then you may wish to request a second-story corner room. I preferred to lounge on the veranda to admire the scenery anyway. Go ahead and splurge! How often can you spend less than US$100 for the most comfortable hotel in town?

We found the Villa Santi to be a very comfortable, friendly property. Rooms are large and well furnished. Hotel location is ideal, within walking distance to most points of interest in Luang Prabang. Museums, markets, agencies for tour guides all within 10 minutes of hotel when going by foot. Rickshaw drivers easy to flag down for those not inclined to walk. Tour arraangements can be made through hotel or local agencies. We were in the main building, which has the restaurant upstairs. Every morning at 6:15, the monks went directly in front of our hotel collecting food for the monastery. It was well worth the effort of rising early in order to witness this procession. Property is fairly small, providing a quaint, intimate atmosphere. We found Luang Prabang to be a charming, relaxing location offering a large variety of activities. Can be a terrific destination for just about anyone. Highly Recommended!

Myself and my boyfriend stayed at the Villa Santi Hotel in May 2005. On first sight the hotel is extremely impressive. There's no other hotel in the town with such a nice exterior and we had arranged for an airport pick up which was well appreciated. However, it was extremely expensive at $80 a night including breakfast. Our room was very nice but there was a terrible smell in the bathroom, from what i can imagine was the sewerage system. As we got our bearings we found that we were quite close to the town and there were an abundance of guest houses right down on the Mekong for far cheaper. The receptionist at the hotel kept pushing us to take tours with them (for an enormous fee) and got quite annoyed when we said we wouldn't! We even ended up lying to him about where we were going whenever we passed through reception-not the hassle you want when you are travelling! After our pre-paid nights at the hotel we moved to a guest house in the town beside the Mekong for $6 a night for a double room with bathroom and a fan. Considering the price difference i know where i would stay again! So if you want to spend your money on an over priced hotel, the Villa Santi is the place for you but if you're happy to stay somewhere not as pretentious then look for some of the lovely guest houses, which are easy to find and who won't bother you at all!
