We stayed at the hotel with our 2 year old son, as well as our friends who also stayed with their 2 young children.

The hotel is a small boutique offering, tucked away from the main streets of Luang Prabang. It is in a beautiful colonial style, with lots of books and crannies, ponds, 2 pools, and lots of nice antiques and decorations available for purchase.

We had a junior suite room, which was large and plenty of room for the 3 of us. The style is old colonial, which I guess suits some and not others - we loved it!

The staff were amazing, all very friendly and happy to look after both us and our children’s needs.

The food in the hotel was fantastic and reasonably priced. The breakfast was a selection of delicious pastries and breads, western choices, and local delicacies. The lunch and dinner offerings were tasty, and there was a very good children’s menu.

The location was ideal, it’s about 5 minutes walk to the river and 10 minutes walk to the start of the main Luang Prabang Street. We enjoyed being close to the action but not in the heart of it.

The hotel was generally quite quiet. There was a bit of evening noise from the next door night bazaar which had music until 10pm, but it wasn’t too loud nor too close, and it didn’t bother us even though we were in one of the rooms closest to the bazaar. Our friends did stay in a ground floor room and said the noise in the room above was quite loud, which I guess comes from the way old properties are built, so maybe worth bearing in mind when you book.

The only thing I would mention is to make sure you double/triple check arrangements with the hotel when they book a tour for you. We had some minor travel problems with an elephant tour which were caused by the hotel not making proper arrangements with the tour company despite our requests.

But all in all a fantastic place to stay and highly recommended, especially if you have a family/young children.

A pleasant and relaxing weekend with the whole family.
A refined environment in a very peaceful and green setting.
The rooms are large and comfortable and well furnished with various objects and antique furnishings.
The staff very kind and always available as the owner, a very kind and pleasant person.
We enjoyed breakfast, à la carte, with different choices and also dinner, served in a small terrace in front of the water lily pond.
A highly recommended place where we hope to return soon

The hotel is relatively small with 31 rooms and two small swimming pools set in beautiful grounds. Panama hats on the sunbeds were a nice touch. Near one of the pools was a bar.
On arrival we were offered a complimentary drink from the bar and offered Laos whisky to try! Our room was large with a four poster bed and antique furniture and a wooden floor. There was an empty fridge in the room and 6 bottles of complimentary water. There was a sala outside are room where we sat with our evening drinks. Staff were all helpful. There was an a la carte menu for breakfast which included Laoatian and European food. There was a variety of different coffees and teas.
The hotel was a 20 minute stroll away from the night market and bars and restaurant area. Very Close to the hotel was the Manda de Laos restaurant which was one of the more expensive local restaurants. We recommend making a reservation if you want to eat there. The hotel also has a restaurant but we did not try it.

We had asked a t reception for a feedback form. The receptionist said they would like us to put our comments on Trip Advisor".... so here goes

In our opinion this hotel relies on its historic building and characteristic Laotian style to demand a high price for what is actually uncomfortable accommodation and poor service. It is well located, quiet and clean.

However.....The staff are mostly clueless and although being very friendly, they seem unable to produce a drinks order correctly. Tonic should be added to a cocktail by the discretion of the client, not filled to the brim so your drink is drowned. even though we asked to pour our own tonics, we were ignored.

The sun beds and restaurant chairs are rock hard, please invest in some better seating for relaxation.

The rooms are dingy with poor lighting and creaky floorboards. The beds are very hard and in my opinion, uncomfortable. The tiled floors in the shower are slippery and dangerous. The door handle and tap in the loo were loose.

The breakfast was nice, the lady supervisor was very sweet. We ate in the restaurant one evening, the food was ok but the menu was limited. And it seemed to be brought in from a kitchen the other side of the garden.

After three nights stay, I had a bad back and wanted to leave.

These might seem like minor problems, but when you’re paying the sort of money they are charging, things need to be better.

And to cap it all, we were in the car just about to leave and a receptionist came running out saying that we had taken a pair of the hotel slippers. Now these are palm leaf plaited flip flops that you can buy in the local market for a couple of quid. Yes our friends had taken their pair, as they quite rightly assumed that as these are very difficult to clean and reuse, and they had used them through the gardens etc. that they were complementary. There was no notice to the contrary. Our friends were very annoyed at having to open up their suitcases to look for the offending pair of flip flops. The receptionist said he would waive it for $5, which was duly paid so we would not miss our aeroplane. Beggars belief really.

Dear Mrs Hodgson, I am sorry to read your review of our hotel and the areas in which we did not meet your expectations. Finding a mattress that suits all guests is always a challenge. We do have feather toppers on all the mattresses and for the most part the comments are positive. As for the sun beds and restaurant chairs, I agree that they are firm cushions and will look into possible softer alternatives. The bedroom slippers are cleaned and re-used as throwing them away after each guest has checked out would not be very ecologically friendly policy. It was quite wrong for the receptionist to run out and try and retrieve them from you on departure. We have reiterated this to the staff. As a rule, if the guests ask to take them we always give them without charge. With best regards,

We stayed a couple of days in this ex residence of a laotian prince (the red prince) and you feel like being a guest in his private residence. The hotel is full of rich details, everywhere you look you see buddha statues, antique furniture, old pictures, great black/white fotographs, little fountains and so on. The garden is full of tropical plants and trees and is meticulously kept. The ambience could not be better. There are two pools on the premises, one lap pool and one regular pool. The rooms are just out of this world, many decorative items give you a fine asian atmosphere. The rooms have nice bathrooms with extra toilet and a walk in closet. Ours had a big and well furnished terrace. Housekeeping pays every attention to detail. Breakfast is served a la carte in the beautiful restaurant. Food is great and service excellent. All staff in the hotel is friendly, attentive and efficient. The hotel is located a bit off the main tourist areas like the main street with the nightmarket but that exactly underlines the exclusivity of this charming oasis. Highly recommended!!

Love the place! The hotel ensures that you can soak up Lao culture at its best. The interiors and architecture of the place is inspired by traditional Lao heritage. I believe its an old property that has been converted to a hotel. There is a lots pond in the middle of the grounds which looks beautiful when in bloom. The food is really good and we thoroughly enjoyed all meals that we tried there.
The staff is helpful and courteous and ensure a pleasant stay! They have bicycles that you can use to ride around the town which is really helpful because otherwise the hotel is a bit far from the main town area where all the eating joints are located.

Spent a week at this charming hotel. It is a boutique hotel so never too busy, very quiet and relaxing however much room for improvement.

Firstly the positives. Number one overriding quality are the staff. Very polite courteous and always willing to help. House keeping was very good and room serviced frequently in the morning through the day( loved the little tasty treats budding beneath the banana leaf cone) and also turn down too.

The setting and style of the room was classic colonial including the furniture and fittings. No corporate hotel styling. Rooms do not come with any TVs.

Criticism our AC was a little noisy, the shutter although effective very tight fitting. Appreciate the hotel has not long been reopened after lockdown but the poolside parasols faded and worn. When your charging the same rates as all the big hotels worldwide and professing 5 stars should be reflected in the fittings.

F&B a little pricier than outside for drinks as one may expect but the service poolside was friendly. Breakfast was nice but repetitive after a week. Pity that there was no other food advertised or room service evening an evening menu

We however loved the quietness making allowances for the neighbouring residential area and the overall charm of the hotel. Location wise slightly out of the town but only 10 minutes walk

Our family stayed here for 2 days. We really liked the hotel. It is spacial and beautiful. The staff was helpful although a bit lackadaisical, they have bikes you can use (for free) to bike to the nearby downtown area. The breakfasts are nice.
Our only critical feedback is: (1) the air conditioning didn't really work in both of the rooms we stayed in; (2) the internet is horrible in the guest rooms (pretty much non-existent); and (3) there are no phones or TVs in the room (which would have been fine except when there is no internet, you feel isolated).

We stayed here for 5 nights and loved it. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The hotel itself is in a quiet location but within a 20 minute walk of the night market and main areas. There are also some lovely places to eat and drink near the hotel.
The hotel is clean & beautifully maintained. The bed was so comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed 2 nights in the Satri House Suite and my young daughters (ages 3 and 10) and I felt like royalty! Our suite was a part of the Prince’s original residence. The structure was built over 100 years ago, impeccably restored and culturally appointed. The staff were very friendly and helped to arrange taxis to Kuang Si Falls and other local attractions. The food at the on-site restaurant was delicious and the complimentary massage at the spa was just what we needed after a full day out and about. The hotel property itself is like a museum with many artifacts from the region as part of the design. The layout allows for many common and cozy seating areas, indoor and out, to relax, play board games, read, eat, etc. Despite the luxurious and intimate feel, my young (and sometimes wild!) children were welcomed by staff and guests alike. We had a wonderful and memorable time here!

Unfortunately, we do not have any connecting rooms. We do have large balconies covered with a roof, yet not quite an enclosed veranda. We hope this helps. With best regards, Your Satri House team
