We have been lucky enough to stay at some wonderful hotels across the world and this is up there with the very very best. The welcome sets out how they will treat you and that doesn’t change in the 4 days we were there: nothing is too much trouble, service is always with a smile and you are made to feel very welcome. We stayed in room 4 which was lovey with excellent amenities and well equipped. The hotel is all single storey, small and intimate. We were collected at the airport and whisked into town. The food is very good — we ate 2 meals a day, breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is a la carte with a wide range of western and Cambodian dishes. Afternoon tea is light and tasty. Dinner menu is a mix of a la carte and set: we had the Cambodian set on 2 nights (it changes every day) and the a la carte on the last. It was very very good and they varied the portions sizes because we only wanted small. The wine list is competent and the drinks list extensive. Facilities are good - same day complimentary laundry service - room very well equipped. 2 pools one of which is 25m. Good gym. Local tours were well organised and we had a remorque tour one evening to see Siam Reap at night. No, it isn’t cheap. But we thought it worth every cent.

Hotel's Favourite
A wonderful stay, in a private oasis in the middle of Siem Reap. The buildings have great character, the rooms are cool and spacious and the pool spa areas are lovely. What makes this hotel super special are the staff and the guest experience. Everything is organised for you with your input, the guides are amazing and so dedicated. All the staff are friendly and helpful and the GM and his team were fantastic. Can’t fault it, attention to detail was incredible and they struck the perfect balance between being attentive and too invasive. Would highly recommend to anyone !

I loved my stay at Amansara, and pretty much everything about the hotel: beautiful zen design, extremely kind and friendly staff, and most of all really delicious food, possibly the best of any Aman I’ve been to. We tried Cambodian, Indian and international options and everything was top notch - I’d also highly recommend the fresh fruit juices which were god tier. The chef came out to chat with us and was a pleasure to talk to. The only thing which was just good but not great was the iced latte, but it’s probably for the best, as if it were any better I would’ve really struggled with leaving. My complaints are small ones: would be nice to slightly heat the pools (especially the private ones adjoined to the rooms which I think are nicest to enjoy in the evenings), and as with many Amans the property is showing a bit of wear in places and is probably overdue for some touch ups. In particular it would be nice to have easier blinds with better blackout for people who are sensitive to light. My room (20), was nicely tucked away in the far corner of the property, but quite scuffed in places. Our guide was also excellent and a very nice guy, my only feedback would be that it’s ok to let guests enjoy some moments of silence here and there. The commentary was a little bit too non-stop for my personal taste, but I recognise that he was simply trying to do the job to the best of his ability, so it would be unkind for me to moan about it too much. A tip for future guests: I would check the weather forecast if you plan to do a sunrise visit to Angkor Wat - if it’s going to be cloudy, I’m not sure it’s worth the schlep of getting up at the crack of dawn. You can just as well visit later in the day, albeit with slightly more crowds (it’s still far from empty at sunrise).

It doesn’t get better than Amansara. Set in a royal guesthouse from the 60s, spread out over incredibly refined and serene gardens with an Albers-esqu pool, it is perfection. Our room was impeccable, simple in the most elegant manner, spotless, and supremely comfortable. Centered around its own courtyard and pool, it is the kind of room you take pictures of thinking you should build one back home. The hotel organized activities for each day, and each was flawless and without stress. “No rush,” I heard again and again. Make sure to take their private boat to see the floating villages and have a dinner organized at their reconstructed traditional home. The food is also excellent, served in the original soaring dining room. At night, the garden is lit with 100s of cables. Magical. Now, for that staff. From the GM and head of front office Anda, on down, they are charming and kind and efficient. They became our friends. Yes, it is expensive. But if you can afford it, DO. It is one of those rare jewels.

This was our second visit to Siem Reap, having last stayed at Belmond's La Residence D'Angkor back in 2009. While the Belmond property was good, we're glad that we "upgraded" to Amansara this time, which is a far superior establishment in every single way (although priced far higher as well, I might add.) Amansara is the 16th Aman that we've stayed at, and it ranks in the upper tier of Amans as far as service is concerned. From the time that we were greeted at Siem Reap Airport to the time we waved goodbye to GM MJ Birch and his wonderful staff, we were well taken care of with nothing left wanting. The warm, gentle hospitality that is the hallmark of Amans (especially its Asian properties) was in full effect in Siem Reap, and everything seemed to work like clockwork. It wasn't just the front desk staff that were aware of our plans and preferences - everyone seemed to know our wants, desires and our planned outings, so much so that every aspect of our time there (dining, room cleaning, spa treatments, etc.) were meticulously arranged and executed in a seamless manner. And at almost every turn, MJ was always there to ensure that no stone was left unturned in an effort to make us feel as pampered as can be. MJ is about as hands-on as any GM that we've encountered, and was eager for constructive feedback that we occasionally shared with him during our time there. Judging from his attitude and professionalism, MJ is definitely a rising star among the Aman GM ranks. While the property grounds are not as expansive as some others (such as Amankila or Amanemu), it was nonetheless well maintained and features a pretty grove of trees that line the walkway to the rooms. Although we did not take a dip in the main pool, it was well maintained and the cabanas were always kept clean and ready to be used at any time. We stayed at their top-category Pool Suite, which was nice but unnecessary if you don't intend to take advantage of the pool. Otherwise, the room layout and space is pretty much the same across all 3 category of rooms. In a way, this is where we wish they'd offer a larger type of rooms - we are accustomed to at least 100 square meters of indoor space (the Suites here are anywhere between 70-75m²), and having separate living and bedrooms. At Amansara, they're more akin to a Junior Suite, which is okay, but between the slightly reduced indoor footprint and the lack of any view, it's not exactly a place that we felt we needed to stay in for extended periods of time. We had a private Aman driver and guide that took us to the top sites, and we were able to do whatever we wanted, when we wanted to. Synat was a wonderful and charming guide, and was more than eager to adjust the schedule (and order) of the excursions based on our preferences. And each time we returned to the vehicle, our driver Sineth greeted us with a warm smile, cold towels, and bottles of refreshments to keep us hydrated. Meals at Amansara were above average. The selections on the menu are not as expansive as those that are found in some other Asian Amans, but what they had was prepared perfectly and presented beautifully. Even simple salads had a variety of vegetables, with flavorful dressings that were neither too sour or salty. I'd definitely recommend you try out the Cambodian offerings from the Khmer course - it's a lovely, family-style arrangement with palate-stimulating soups, sauteed veggies, curries and more. While I wouldn't put the F&B quality in the same class as Amanpuri, for instance, considering that we were in Cambodia, the quality of the dining experience was remarkably good. As a stand-alone resort, Amansara won't win any awards when compared to, say, Amanpulo. However, as a city resort in a country not renowned for luxurious accommodations or standout service, the fact that we had an enjoyable and flawless experience gives us renewed faith that the Aman ethos is alive and well, especially at some of its classic Asian properties.

The entire staff and the General Manager, MJ Birch of Amansara, could not have been more accommodating and professional. From the moment I stepped on to Siem Reap soil to the moment I boarded my departing airplane, I knew I had made the perfect choice to spend nearly a week by myself in the first South Asia country of my travels. There isn't a thing I would do differently about my visit, except to stay longer. The property is exquisitely sublime and serene. The accommodations are as glorious and soothing as I expected them to be. The service is spectacular. The food is amazing. My tour guide Yoko is incredibly knowledgeable and deeply respectful of his heritage and culture and his guests. His enthusiasm is infectious and the wonder and excitement he shares at each temple is as if it is his first time there. My thanks to everyone at Amansara and in Siem Reap for welcoming me so warmly into their life.

We had a lovely 4 days break in Feb, getting upgraded to 2 pool villas. We were absolutely treated like royalty, being one of the only guests in the hotel. Some of the key highlights: - Service Service Service.. they absolutely excel in it with the staff extremely friendly and enthusiastic. They took pains to draw up our itinerary and keep amending it for us as we went along. They ensured the trip was memorable for doing small things to make us feel special. - experiences…we had a magical sunset cruise on the lake joining the Mekong delta, with refreshments and drinks served on the deck. We also had a breakfast at a traditional house managed by Aman, and leaning how to make rice noodles. Angkor wat at sunrise was magical with their guides extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They were with us for the entire duration. - food was good though choices were limited. We loved sitting outside facing the green courtyard having breakfast. - the villa was nice and spacious. The property is slightly old, but still has a charm to it. - spa was wow…the therapists were extremely well trained and the entire experience was memorable.

My husband and I stayed at the Amansara just last weekend for a short staycay during the Covid-19 period (oh they take extra precautions at the property, taking temperatures of guests twice a day, offering masks and hand sanitizers at all times) when Siem Reap has hardly any tourists. It was our first Aman stay and WOW, we are now looking forward to checking out their other properties worldwide. A masterpiece of Khmer architecture, I fell in love with the courtyards upon checking in, the tranquil environment in the heart of Siem Reap will bring your restful soul peace and serenity despite the hustle and bustle around. Sadly they were running on low occupancy (just 1 other guest during our stay) so we got upgraded to a pool suite and offered a super late check-out. The spa was closed but we utilised the gym a couple of times, I must say it's well equipped, and one of the best gyms I've ever been to with state of the art machines. Food was AMAZING, go for their Khmer fare, it varies daily and never disappoints. I literally ate the same dishes everyday when I was there, Chef Daniel was superb, he took care of my food allergies & even shared the rice noodle and porridge recipes with us. For some meals we ordered room service and we were impressed with how the different courses were served just like in the restaurant, first they brought the appetizers, 15 mins later the main dishes came, lastly the dessert. I was picked up by an old school Mercedes Benz from the Sofitel where I was residing at prior, the ride was short but it added to the experience. The property actually offers a range of activities- they change it on a monthly basis depending on season and weather, unfortunately most were suspended during our stay due to Covid so we only managed a short tour of Angkor Wat and some of the surrounding temples, which was good enough for us. The most memorable was how they managed to take my spectacles to an optician to get it fixed over an hour and the effort made by Bunsak, their front desk manager who managed to find us a driver at the very last minute when we departed as our personal driver backed out. These little touches added to our Aman experience, yes it comes with a price but it's definitely worth it for the impeccable service rendered by each and everyone at the Amansara. I miss my home already, thank you Astrid, Daniel, Bunsak, Lohn, Bunheouom, Rata, Sokhy, and Sri Aun for your hospitality and care. Hope our paths will cross again soon! Best wishes, Bong Alison & Bong Steven from Suite 14 (27-29 March)

We recently had a very quick two night stay at Amansara. It is a stunningly simple property. As with all of our other Aman stays, the service was great. With your room you have a dedicated guide and driver for your entire stay for excursions to Angkor Wat and the other temples. Our guide ‘Cun’ provided great history and was a fabulous photographer. In fact, I just let him keep my iphone most of the time and he would get the best angles and lighting. I also appreciated that despite it being his backyard that he was showing us, he was still in awe of the temples. Even for a quick trip into Siem Reap, the driver waits for you, regardless of how long you want to explore. Amansara also makes every drive fun – from the vintage Mercedes that once belonged to the king, to jeeps and beautiful remorques. The restaurant is lovely and has a menu that changes nightly. Both nights we ate the Khmer food and it was fantastic. Usually I notifiy hotels ahead of our stay that my husband is gluten free, however this time I forgot. To our surprise, when we sat down to our first meal they greeted us already knowing it, apparently from a profile of preferences they share among Aman properties.. Chhunny, Sarak and Lonh were so pleasant and attentive. During our last meal I asked Lonh what one of the components of my dish was – he answered and asked if I would like the recipe. When I jumped at the offer he asked if there were any other recipes that I would like as well. He knew we were leaving within an hour and before our departure he had the executive chef, Daniel Horn, prepare all of the recipes! In addition to the temple tours we did an evening sunset cruise on Tonal Sap. It was a great evening that allowed us to see a fascinating floating village, learn about the importance of the lake to the region and also have a romantic time watching the sunset. Chhunny did a great job making sure we were comfortable, our wine glasses were full and providing a nice assortment of appetizers. We really enjoyed our brief stay at Amansara.
