Now that we are back home and settled in, I'd like to commend the entire staff at Intercontinental Cartagena for an amazing top tier and VIP experience for myself and my entire family!! We have 5 children and we felt welcomed and important from the time we stepped in to the time of check out. We almost didn’t want to leave!

Julio (Reservations) was so responsive and helpful from the months leading up to our trip and also while we were there! He was pleasant and professional. Kellian was so polite upon check- in, she really set the tone for the trip and I knew it would be a great stay! Ivanna I’m the club lounge was always willing to go above & beyond for my non-pork eating husband. No request was too large for her to handle. Fabian in the pool area was kind and quick to assist with whatever we needed. And lastly,
manager Maribela was everywhere and always willing and asking if there was something she could do to make the hotel stay even better - but literally, we needed nothing.

The lobby was clean and we felt safe in all parts of the hotel! The food at the restaurant was DELICIOUS, I mean everything we ordered was cooked to perfection. The presidential suite was huge and large enough to accommodate my entire family. Housekeeping didn't miss a beat and we didn't have to request towels or washcloths, they were on top of everything.

We try not to visit the same country twice but we will most definitely be back to visit Cartagena again and will only stay at this hotel. 10/10 highly recommend! Thank you all for everything !! -Esperanza ;-)

Everything from check-in is perfect. Excellent service, pristine rooms, amazing views, nice pool area and excellent food & beverages. You'll find antibacterials everywhere in public areas, very convenient for the safety of everyone at the hotel. If you're an IHG rewards member, you'll receive the perks corresponding to your status. Very convenient. The area surrounding the hotel is safe and accesible and major points of interest are just a few minutes away in a cheap taxi ride.

First of all, the hotel makes an effort to keep all common areas clean and with the usual amenities in place. Rooms have either beach view or port view, both are very nice since guest rooms are above floor 6. Beds are very comfortable and bedding is high quality. The bathroom has everything you need, but has an open door concept that was not very comfortable when traveling with friends. The gym was very well equipped and also had chilled drinking water and complementary apples. Really nice to use the treadmill with Seaview. Breakfast had everything you can expect, I would add a few of local specialties for perfection. It's a good option for family time and friends. It will take more than twenty minutes on a good traffic day to get to the the historic district. It can be done by walking too. There was a minor incident, but the service team solved it easily and with out much fuss.Overall nice experience for those looking to rest in front of the beach. We found a last minute promo !

Supposedly this hotel only opened less than 2 years ago, but it's looking like 5-7+ years as the initial construction and room fixtures were shoddily put together. Lots of stains and tears and little broken things everywhere. A/C doesn't work too well but this is somewhat common in supposedly luxury hotels in Latin America. Doesn't offer full amenity kits in the bathroom. No real recognition for IHG Plats aside from welcome points or drink which is standard.

Location is at the far end of Bocagrande, so getting into the walled city will be a little longer and not walkable like the Hyatt Regency was. There are some decent restaurants nearby though.

Asked for ice for 2 days and never came. Every time they will just say ok coming immediately but it will never show up. On the 2nd day I called 3 times and waited for 90 minutes and it never showed up. Finally gave up and went to the pool bar to get ice in small cups.

Pool is small for the size of the hotel and especially the seating areas are quite limited.

Stayed at the Hyatt Regency last year and had a much better experience although not perfect either. Would whole heartedly recommend the HR over this IC any day for Cartagena.

Only saving grace was that the concierge was helpful in checking up on the status of my delayed/lost luggage from Copa. It doesn't help that Copa was completely incompetent and hid from my inquiries.

They are misrepresenting the intercontinental hotels name, if you are used to the intercontinental standards this is not it.
I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in March with my family, and i have many reasons to recommed to you to stay away from this place.

1.I booked five rooms, and I specifically requested that we were placed on the same level of the building which it didn't happen as promised, despite the multiple phone calls , emails and whatsapp messages i did send previous to our arrival.

2. The reservation was booked with buffet but in our arrival the clerk said that the reservation didn't include buffet. My impression is that she either didn't understand how to read english or the partners that they work with to sell rooms don't communicate with them appropriately so when you get there all of the sudden you get hit with fact that you don't have acess to what you thought you have reserved. Terrible practice.
3. The swimming pool is cold, and the wind constantly blast that area because it seems like the design doesn't block the wind so forget about even to try to seat by because even your sunglasess will fly away. We tried to seat by it to listen to a DJ but couldn't tolerate the high wind.

4. Some of the rooms look and smelled they were not cleaned and they have a moldy smell.

5. The beach across the hotel is full of restaurants where they exagerate and especualte with prices to the point of charging tourists a fortune for average drinks and food items. Me and my family grabbed a couple of drinks and a few food items and the bill was $300 dollars, they were very rude when we confroted them and we felt threathened and intimitaded so we ended up paying the astronomical ammount. We reported this to the doorman and security of the hotel and they totally ignored us and the worst they don't warn any of the guests to stay away from these places, what make us think they work together and probably make comissions.
6. Elevators are small and super uncomfortable.
7. The design and cosntruction are very poor.
8. Do yourself a favor "stay away from this place"

I stayed at the InterContinental earlier this month for my trip to Cartagena and it was unimpressive. The rooms are nice and clean with decent (not great views) but the service is not great. For example, my wife and I decided to have breakfast poolside and the service was extremely slow (no other people were there), my wife's breakfast came out first and mine 15 minutes later, and there were hairs in her food. I relayed this to the front desk upon my checkout and nothing was done about it. The hotel was not entirely bad but for what they are charging; definitely not worth it. I would suggest Hotel Caribe which I took a tour at that same day of my check-out. They were more economical, more SERVICEABLE, and even provided free-buffet breakfast which they treated us to NOT even being a guest there staying.

This is a lovely hotel opposite the beach lovely pool and it next to a casino and lots of places to eat and drink I felt it was in a safe location. I don’t like that you have to pay for parking if you get car hire I do think with a five star hotel that they should at least provide parking although they did fix this for me. The staff are incredibly friendly polite and very helpful. The hotel facilities are clean the rooms are spacious and if you are very lucky to get one with a view of the sea this makes your stay worthwhile as the sunset. Is beautiful. The breakfast service is incredibly slow you have to wait always for the waiters and I think they should at least give you a menu in English. I had to keep ordering the same food so I never really got to sample much choice as the Internet connection by the pool is slow so I could not connect to the QR menu and they never offered me a menu even when I asked. This put me off eating in the hotel Shame as the food was probably really good.Shame as the food was probably really good. But I will be visiting Columbia again at the end of the year and I will definitely book this hotel.

There was a time when an Intercontinental was the best hotel in any given Latin American city. Clearly, given the lack of detail at the Intercontinental Cartagena, those days are long past.

It is not a terrible hotel as much as it is a terribly disappointing one. And clearly suffering from a management lack of detail. So you have skyscraper views but the windows are so dirty that it looks foggy outside. Or the clock in the gym just doesn't work any more. The ice machine on 12 didn't work at all during my four night stay. And the spa doesn't have a price list, merely sticky notes with a price scribbled in them.

A breakfast buffet at a name brand hotel like this should be awesome. Here, it doesn't look like they even try anymore. Omelette was both overcooked and runny--I don't even know how they manage to achieve that.

Pool is particularly unfortunate. Water cold, deck windswept, not inviting in the least.

I made notes and shared them with the front desk for management follow up. Heard nothing.

Cartagena now has a few big hotels nearby, notably the Hyatt, the Estelar, and the landmark Hilton. All are in better shape, appear to be better managed, and are comparable (if not cheaper) in price. Choose one of them instead.

Intercontinental has a problem in Cartagena. Stay elsewhere.

Where to start... Room smelled moldy, sewage smell coming from the bathroom, tried to call reception and phone was not working and TV remote not working either, when came down to reception Tatiana was terrific she immediately apologized and gave me an upgrade to a suite due to the inconvenience. The next day I asked reception to ask housekeeping to make up the room as I was going to a meeting, I came back 3 hours later and the room was not cleaned. The restaurant service is the worse I experienced at any IHG properties, extremely inconsistent, poor service and the quality of the food way below any standard. Menu is misleading and quite frankly very dishonest. They recommend the signature dish and as per menu description supposed to have crab claws, shrimp and also crab meat, guess what.... the dish came only with shrimp and when highlighted the issue to the server,he just made up excuses and then he said we do not have crab claws and crab meat... but still presented the check for the full amount. In other words, you can find better options in Cartagena for the same rate.

This is a 3 star hotel and that’s being kind. I have no problem with 3 star hotels & I gladly stay in them. But, don’t act like you’re more than that, when you clearly are not! I only stayed here one night and that was more than enough. I’m glad I got to experience it because now I know not to return. I’m an IHG Spire member (which is their highest level in the IHG rewards program, less their Intercontinental Ambassador level) and I received no welcome whatsoever during my stay. The front desk staff merely checked me in, by taking my passport information and handed me a key and that was it. No one even offered to help me up to my room with my luggage. The view overlooking the ocean was nice and I did not notice my windows being dirty, as other reviewer’s have mentioned. I guess they clean them sometimes. The pool area is very dreary and there’s nothing welcoming about it whatsoever. I was there at Christmas time and the decorations were humdrum. I went down for breakfast in the morning and it was cramped and unappealing. I’ve actually stayed in the other two IHG locations in Cartagena and they were far better than this hotel. There’s a Holiday Inn Express in Bocagrande (which is OK) and also a brand new and modern Holiday Inn Express in the neighborhood of Manga (which is very nice). I would recommend both of those hotels over this one. This InterContinental hotel fails severely. Not one staff member stood out as being welcoming or professional. The security staff were very vigilant, which can be good or intrusive at times. Staying here was definitely a dull experience.

Hello JimH_nyc, Thank you for being with us recently, and for being an IHG Rewards Club Spire Elite Member. We want our guests to have long-lasting and impeccable impressions, and I'm worried that you'll remember us otherwise. I'm sorry that the service you received from our staff was below par. I'm also sad that the cleanliness and issues at breakfast fell below your expectations. All we want is to satisfy our guests, and I'm concerned that our local management missed the opportunity to meet your expectations. I will make sure to let the hotel management know about your concerns about the necessary improvements needed. It may not be the kind of experience that you're expecting from an Intercontinental hotel. However, I'm still hoping that we can mend fences and give you the discreet luxury we usually provide. Regards, Dianne L. Case Manager IHGService
