Hotel's Favourite
Excellent hotel. It's a ten minute walk out of the old town. But the pro is that it is quiet and an amazing view of the castle from the restaurant and bar. The staff were extremely helpful and stood outside to get you a taxi and make sure you got to the right place. The place is very clean and the AC works really well which is very important as the town is scorching hot in the afternoon and hot the rest of the 24 hours. Definitely get the breakfast buffet to start your day. It's also right next to a huge shopping mall so you can go over there to buy water or food or books or whatever. Very useful. I felt safe walking to and from the city even in the evening, but I'm a fat ugly old 60 year old so maybe I'm not a target!

The hotel is located few minutes away from San Felipe Castle where you will be able to have a panoramic view of the old city once you reach the top.

The hotel staff was kind and they offered top class customer service. The hotel even provided us cold breakfasts as we started our tours very early in the morning, much appreciated. Also they cared about our safety and gave us valuable tips about the city.

The facilities were modern, clean and tidy. Although the swimming pool on the rooftop is small, it has a great view of both Cartagena's old and new towns. The bar offers reasonably priced and tasty cocktails.

I would definetely recommend this hotel to someone who wants to be in Cartagena for a couple of days, close to town but away from the chaos of the old city.

Muchas gracias al hotel San Lazaro Art y a sus empleados por los servicios prestados. Muy buena experiencia!

Located in the most scenic location, this hotel has a marvellously solicitous staff; it’s price is much more adequate for the wallet, the terrace, pool and restaurant most attractive as well. The only minus is the neighbourhood and therefore access to the old city, and by taxi there are times that traffic is painfully slow, so tourists should take that in account if attending events or conferences. Would definitely return!

Staff fantastic. 6 night stay. The owners if this hotel need to clean up and improve the facilities. Dirty carpets. Tattered pool towels, terrible breakfast at this price. Shower door could not close, water ran into the room. Sink did not drain. Soap holder broken. If you stay for a night or 2, you will be fooled by fresh water at reception, face-towels to wipe your face. Yet, no face towels in room. Door to patio hard to close, so all guests leave this open, making inside warm. Pool tiny and shallow. All photos on website misleading. Again, FANTASTIC staff. Thank you Miguel, Roberto, Diana and staff of breakfast room and Willy the driver. For the price, even in Cartagena, this was a wrong choice. Hotel owner to blame. Photo show real view from our room, filthy hallway carpet, dirty chair.

The location is convenient next to a shopping mall, gym, food eateries etc. a 20 minute walk to wall city, ( I would not recommend it at night) The general area looks a bit seedy but I felt safe ( for the most part) due to the abundance of traffic and people) The staff in the hotel are super nice and helpful , they always greet me and tell me things about the area , generally friendly and accommodating. The lobby area is clean and well maintained with snacks and beverages available. I was given one during check in. The room was large enough, nice bed, towels, linen, the air conditioning was freezing, I had to shut it off. My only issues are the toilet flushed poorly and cable tv not user friendly, eventually Netflix and YouTube became available. The restaurant staff is awesome! very accommodating, enough said. Small pool but clean. At night they lock the hotel down ( literally, it becomes fenced in ) but there is a security personnel on duty to let guess inside. 24hr front desk on duty. I gave the hotel itself and staff 5 stars but the few issues I had makes it a 4 but I would recommend it based on dollar value.

Great location, literally right across the street from the castle and a mall. Room/bed very comfy. Hot water and good pressure in the shower, along with a clothesline for hand washing clothes/your face towel if needed. Mini bar with good variety and good prices. TV has several channels in multiple languages.

Can't speak to the complimentary breakfast, as it only consisted of eggs. The restaurant menu in general is small but the food is really good. I ate there daily, and the service was mostly good, except for the last 2 days: the drink quality and speed of service diminished, which is unfortunate.

Overall, good stay.

At first, our check in was very good, with a very polite staff. The room is very good, with a very comfortable bed. The most disappointing thing: breakfast! With a la carte menu (YOU MUST pick between few options), an entrance (granola or fruit) and the main plate (omelette, scrambled eggs) and bread, pancakes or arepas. My point is: how come you choose a nice hotel to stay and cannot ask for something else in the breakfast, yes, you cant ask for two options WITHOUT being charged!
I asked the waiter for an omelette and scrambled eggs and he answered me if i would like to make an additional. I asked if they would charge me and he was like: of course!

My wife and I stayed here with another couple for three nights. We liked the fact that the property was directly across the street from San Felipe fortress. We also liked the fact that this is a fairly small place, I think 36 rooms. It was fun hanging out at the pool while having cold drinks and watching people tour the fortress. The breakfast was very diverse and guests can get cooked to order eggs. We had dinners in the food court at the large shopping mall which is about a block from the hotel. The property is close enough to Cartagena old town to walk but we were advised not to do so in nighttime hours. The staff were pleasant and helpful. All in all we enjoyed our stay.

The staff here is wonderful; so friendly and accommodating The food in the onsite restaurant was very good. Room clean and updated. Located one block from a shopping center and a $3 cab ride from walled city. We’d stay there again!

I had a little misunderstanding when checking in as I had booked a Suite from a secondary booking site but "Miguel" from the front desk went above an beyond to ensure my needs were met and I was satisfied with my stay there. I'd definitely recommend upgrading or booking a suite as the view are fantastic and room was very Spacious. Bathroom was fantastic, super clean and lots of space again. Balcony was great addition too as pool had very limited seating for getting sun and was full when i went so I used my private balcony. Breakfast was nice, bar was reasonable but Staff made my stay memorable. Thanks again Miguel. I look forward to my next stay at the hotel.

The hotel will arrange a car for an added fee...contact them directly for arrangements. Taxis also are plentiful and lined up as you exit the airport. Expect to pay around $15000 - 18000cop (approx $6usd) there is a currency exchange just as you exit customs/immigration area. Takes less than 15 minutes to get to the hotel

With no traffic the airport is about 10 - 15 minutes. The airport is located very close to the hotel. I also don't recommend renting a car. If you are traveling with a big group I recommend speaking to the hotel.
