Jean's Home has a wonderful quiet location, away from the bustle of Puerto Ayora yet only ten minutes from the central dock via water taxi. A five-minute walk takes you to a small, calm beach where you can see marine iguanas, sealions, pelicans and crabs. Also nearby is a pleasant restaurant overlooking the harbour at the taxi stop. Gundi is...

What a great place Jean's Home is! And it is not only about the place: it is Gundi - the host, history, peace, relax.... Let me tell you about it. We stayed there with 3 kids. My husband was like a camel carrying the backpacks and bags, but it was worth the effort :o). Jean's home is located in Punta...

Really nice house where you feel like you are at home. Breakfast was very tasty and Gundi was looking after us very well. The bed was comfortable and the room spacious. It is very quiet there because you can only get there by ferry and there is not motorized traffic on that part of Puerto Ayoro. It is close to...

Isolated from the hassle of the town, yet only a small walk away from the dinghies that bring you there. We enjoyed quiet nights in a truly comfy house. Next to the town's nicest beach and hosted by Gundi, the best hostess. The are family rooms and bungalows. In both cases you have a kitchen, small fridge, A/C, phone, WiFi...

Stayed here only for a couple of nights in March 2015 on the way back from Isla Isabela. Gundi is an excellent host who made sure our short stay was very smooth. She picked us up at the pier when we returned from Puerto Villamil, and also arranged for a taxi ride to the airport and helped us with the...

I think our title says it all. We spent 2 nights here in November 2010 and I have been meaning to write this for 4+ years! Wish we could've stayed longer, and in fact we often think about taking a sabbatical here, and staying for an extended time. This place was beautiful inside and out, and the owner is lovely.

Not sure why it took me so long to write this review. We loved Gundi and Jean's Home. This was a perfect base to explore Galapagos. Gundi knew the best tours and set them up for us at the best prices. The B&B is cozy, clean, very welcoming and perfect for a family or a couple. We trusted Gundi so...

I fully agree with previous reviews. Gundi is the perfect host, takes care about your needs and arranges tours at your convenience. The breakfast is very tasty and the atmosphere relaxing in a very quiet surrounding. You can really feel at home.Highly recommended. Stayed 4 nights in Ocotober 2014.

Jean's Home is relaxed and spacious and spotlessly clean. It's a two minute water taxi ride away from all the shops and restaurants and other services you may require. Gundi know these islands well and has a wealth of information to help you make the very best of your stay. This is a lady who cares passionately about the wildlife...

Our stay in Jeans Hotel was most pleasurable. It was a peaceful and relaxed home from home with the added value of a kind person taking very good care of us. It's also fun to take the little boat from the main port, which is really not trouble at all as they run all the time. A very good address...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Jean's Home is a small B&B located on a point called "Punta Estrada", on Santa Cruz, Galapagos Islands -----Brief History----- The original house was built by Jean Blaha, an American settler who arrived on the islands in the 70's. She decided to build her home with her own hands, patiently moving lava-rock by lava-rock. In the 90's Jean passed away without completely finishing the construction. She left the house to her friend and current owner Gundi Schreyer, who decided to call it "Jean's Home" in memory and honor of Jean. -----Accommodations:----- The main house consists out of three rooms and a kitchen-living-room area. The kitchen is there for the guests to use and is fully equipped with refrigerator, electric stove, microwave, coffee-machine, pots and pans and everything needed. There is also a television in the living-room. There are three rooms connected directly to the main house. Each of the rooms has air-conditioning and a private bathroom with hot water. There are also two bungalows for up to three people, each with a private bathroom and a small kitchen (the bungalows do not have air-conditioning but several fans and big windows instead). The B&B is surrounded by a natural garden with mostly native and endemic plants. -----Location:----- Jean's Home is located on a point of the island at the end of "Academy Bay" and can be reached by water-taxi. These are available 24/7 and take only a few minutes to get to the point. The neighborhood is a very peaceful place, as there are no cars (only pedestrian pathways) and it is not located in the center of the town. There is a beautiful beach very close by and also a natural crack with cool brackish water where you can swim, only 15-20 minutes away from the B&B. We also have a few restaurants located directly on the point. ... more   less

“The main house is perfect for families. One bedroom has a kingsize bed, the other queen size and two single beds.”

“All you can hear is the sea and the birds in the morning. There are no roads but you can get a water taxi just buy waving your arm and be in the town in a few minutes. We stayed in the main building but you can request a private bungalow if you wish.”
of 5 bubbles COLINBRIONY, 8 Dec 2014 | Read review
“You can stay in a room in the main house or a self contained bungalow in the garden. We stayed in a room in the house and it was great, but you might have slightly more privacy in one of the self contained bugalows.”

“The rooms in the main house give you extra time with the hostess, Gundi, as she fixes breakfast for those staying in the main house. The bungalows are awesome as well”

“As we were the only guests at the time, Gundi gave us a walk-through of the other cottages. All of them looked like lovely accommodations. Note that there are no vehicles on the part of the island where the cottages are. If you want to go anywhere, you walk. If this is a problem for you, you should book something in town or in the highlands instead.”
