I was at the GEH earlier this month and I have been coming back to this particular hotel and the Friendly north since 2012. Unfortunately this time I had experienced downgrade in cleanliness and maintenance of the hotel - extremely rundown. Further more one particular staff member at reception, Sonia was extremely rude on our 1st day when requested help to contact my driver as we did not have a local phone. She was extremely rude and advised this service can not be provided, yet the lady who assisted me upon check in the previous afternoon, helped me out and called my driver and went above and beyond to help us. Further more Sonia yelled at me the day of my checkout in front of other staff and customers, advising me that I have cleared my bill. It wasn't even 10am and we were still packing. I was in shock when she spoke to me in this manner. This was a real shame as I did love coming to stay at this hotel and have met some lovely staff there. Its a real shame having such staff as front line. Terrible service Sonia - receptionist morning shift - 3/1/24. I would like to say a big thanks to hosanna and the bar attender! You made our stay special and fun. Hope to receive a response on this matter. Thankyou Monica singh

There are basic things one expects when they check in to a hotel, a clean room, a nice bed to sleep on and I cannot believe I hate to say this but water supply. While the staff were lovely and room was clean this hotel had water issues. Every night the water went out, one night the pump was broken the other mornings and nights I had to tell the staff to turn on the pump so we could shower. I have traveled to some really underdeveloped countries and stayed in hotels that rely on rainwater harvesting for water supply in the middle of the drought and yet never experienced the problem I faced here. I think it is extremely embarrassing to have a hotel and not be able to supply water to your guests.

My wife and I stayed 2 nights, arriving by taxi(12 F$) from the LBS Airport at 13:00PM. A nice receptionist copied my passport, checked our pre-payment and provided our room key and wifi code. We passed the bar, restaurant and courtyard pool to our ground floor room in the back. #118 was spacious with a comfortable double across a long table unit(hot pot, coffee/tea & refer below), a 30” TV(Lifetime, Indian, Hope, sports and 2 more channels), a closet and a daybed. The AC was at the far end with remote temperature control and the room WIFI was good and secure. The fully outfitted bathroom had a tile shower with hot water but intermittent pressure. We swam in the nice sized pool and had a Hawaiian pizza from their nice restaurant’s Indian, Chinese and American menu. This older pragmatic hotel is next to the MaxVal Supermarket and perfectly sited between the market and the Subrail Park holding the yearly Festival of the Friendly North.

Water supply was very very low. The TV was not working in the room. The interior is very outdated. It's time to invest and make it more pleasant looking in order for locals to return. River view - where you can only see the corrugated iron. This can be better presented.

I stayed at the Grand Eastern Hotel from 4 Jan to 7 Jan 2023. I chose this hotel only because I wanted to experience the old colonial ambience, since this hotel was probably the very first hotel in Labasa catering for the needs of expatriates and dignitries during the very early days of Labasa town. Those early pictures of Labasa was very much appreciated. I found the hotel standards just about acceptable, however all the hotel workers were very nice. We could not watch the TV in our room because the remote control was malfunctioning and this TV did not have any manual control. No one could find a replacement remote control. Also there was a leaking bathroom sink. It is such an iconic hotel , however it is in dire need of renovation.

This hotel was very nice. I stayed one night when I arrived in Labasa. The view from the balcony was beautiful. The staff was friendly and always greeted you with a smile. I would only add that the rooms are a bit dated. Upgrades are necessary. However, for the rate, the room was a decent deal.

Labasa is a hub and service town for the Northern Division and this hotel appeared popular with those visiting on business. This is not a tourist area so the hotel caters best for locals. It is very traditional in the style of 1960’s and has been maintained satisfactorily. Our large deluxe room was clean. The pillows were thin and bed lacked a side table. We had all our meals in the dining room and they were sufficient to our needs. Local beer in the bar comes at F$5 a bottle. Staff friendly and reception arranged taxis and local transport for us. Modest costs. Meals lunch dinner and breakfast for two about $140 total.

We didn't stay here but each day we had dine for dinner at the Grand Eastern Hotel. The service was excellent and the meals were nicely presented and tasty. The restaurant was very clean, with white table clothes on tables with small vase of fresh flowers. Staff were friendly with great service. Thank you, will dine again and stay next time.

The condition of this hotel is in serious need maintenance. The concerns that I had to raise with the staff 1. No hot water in shower 2. Mosquitoes in the room 3. The extreme bad condition of bed and pillows. 4. Only 1 towel provided.

Two couples are traveling around the island of Vanua Levu in Fiji. We booked the Grand Eastern Hotel in Labasa, Fiji and we're pleasantly surprised. The rooms were tastefully decorated, the swimming pool was very nice, the hotel restaurant and bar was a little overpriced but very nice. Staff was truly a gem in this lovely hotel.. Very helpful and extremely friendly. I will stay here again if I'm in Labasa, Fiji.
