This crumbling old palace and village are so full of charm that you will fall in love in an instant. However I am forced to give it an average rating for the following reasons 1. Firstly booking.com screwed up our reservations and the homestay weren't ready for us. But after a few calls the caretaker opened up a dusty room...

To summarise, Usually the son takes care of this property, but since he was not there, our host was his father. A very nosy old fart, who wouldn't give you any space. Also he made a few cheap comments in passing, since I am traveling with a guy. He charged us 6500 which I think was a bit overpriced. Absolutely...

We fell in love with Palace Utelia when we first saw it online - and it exceeded our expectations. Utelia is about 80kms SW of Ahmedabad but it feels like stepping back into another time and place. The late 19th century Indo-Saracen palace is an absolute gem with domes, colonnaded verandahs and courtyard gardens. Our room was large, cool and...

This is not a palace in true sense. It is a haveli or mansion. It is owned by the decedents of the Vaghela clan who once ruled greater part of Gujarat and Western India before the Muslim invasion. The building looks old and the maintenance cost must be pretty high. They need a regular flow of tourists and history interested...

This review is overdue as it is a few months now since we stayed there. We discovered this through old faithful Google:) and booked by phone. Our trip was from Bhavnagar to the Little Rann and this hotel was conveniently located enroute for an overnight stay, thereby giving us the opportunity to visit Lothal as well. The hotel is a...

The palace is fascinating but in a dirty village near Lothal . The meet and greet of the Prince is a good welcome and with him you can have a nice chat . We only stopped here for lunch : apart from the fact that here one can finally enjoy a beer ( forbidden all over Gujarat ) , the...

Utelia Palace is a nice old place with good local food. Its a convenient place for an overnight stay while visiting Lothal, which is very nearby. Utelia Palace offers a guided tour visiting 2-3 villages. It gives you a deep insight into rural Gujarat.

Compared to many heritage hotels in Rajasthan...often renovated forts in small timeless villages...Utelia was a disappointment. The rooms are overpriced (only the deluxe rooms at 4500 rupess were inviting) and the whole place had a dusty, neglected air. Service well meaning, but hit and miss (limited English) and food average. On a positive note, the guided walk round the village...
