It's another world, the Varkala beach resort. Built around the eco-concept, it borrows its architecture from the natural science of the tribals. The handmade cottages made with mud, clay and flowers ensure maximum natural energy air flow, translate that into cool even during summer. In the midst of a thick green cover, and a 5-minute walk from the cliffs and the beach, The Bohemian Masala stands apart from the other beach resorts in Varkala. The resort promising all the sensual pursuits of a traveller, such as traditional temples, beaches, an eclectic food scene, as well as Ayurvedic massages, is ideal for a peaceful, tranquil vacation. Lounge around in the hammocks in peace and quiet, sample the traditional Kerala fare, walk around its herb and spice garden, or just sit around and meet interesting travellers from across the world. Those times, when you do feel like a walk, step out and hit the beach, indulge in water sports, or try your skills at surfing.

This was my third visit to this place and it was indeed a great break. Great place with mud cottages surrounded with lush green and fruits. You will get disturbed in the morning from none other than birds and squirrels..... It has a beautiful tiny pool... If you need any help here or nearby Mr.Dilip is at your call. Great gentleman with a helpful hand. No doubt, will visit again....

I just returned from a 10-day stay in the Bohemian Masala. I highly recommend this place, cool little cottages nestled in a beautiful well-kept garden filled with jackfruit, cashew nuts, pepper and wild birds. I especially loved the swimming pool, without chemicals, where you can swim to the sight of multicoloured dragonflies and the sound of the birds. The staff are lovely, and the manager Dilipp is ready to help with anything you need. It is a world apart, just a few minutes' walk away from the busy cliff and the seafront. Will look forward to coming back.

We stayed at the Bohemian Masala for 6 nights and enjoyed it thoroughly. Albeit minutes a away from the Varkala cliff and beach the Bohemian Masala is is very quiet, only noises are from the birds in the beautiful garden. The rooms are simple but comfortable and tastefully furnished, the veranda is fresh even during the hottest hours. For breakfast we had every day a different south India delicacy cooked on the spot before our eyes. The managers Dilip is very kind and helpful, he arranged for us a day trip to Kollam and Munroe island and transportation to the railway station. All in all highly recommended

I have just returned from a week’s stay at The Bohemian Masala and found it to be wonderful. It was peaceful, friendly and I really couldn’t have asked for more. It’s a few minutes walk from the beach and the cliff top shops and restaurants but feels tucked away and in a magic world of its own. Rooms are very comfortable and artistic with a/c and fans and a generous verandah to shelter from the heat of the day. The breakfasts were delicious and substantial and I had daily Ayurvedic massages which have restored me in all sorts of ways. I was in my own and felt very safe and welcomed. Dilip was always on hand and the staff were lovely. Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend that everyone takes some time out to visit.

I visited here and stayed for 1 week and I find utmost pleasure and peace from all the disturbances of outside commercial stay. I recommend this place as the manager mr. Dilip and and the staff found it very friendly and helpful and more importantly took care of me during my stay . Something we need in hospitality. The ambience is perfect for solace filled with greenery and natural scenic.

Excellent stay, excellent service. The property is very neat and well kept. It is also very close from the cliff. The management is very friendly and helpful. 24/7 help is available. They even washed my car by the next morning. And when I lost my jbl speakers, they found it and called and made me aware of it. In short, superb stay worth 5 start rating.

Randomly picked this resort based on existing reviews, and remoteness (albeit a short 5-minute walk away) from the beach front which can get frantic late in the day, and was most pleasantly surprised by the quiet and solitude. The warmth of the entire staff, from the Manager (Dilip) on, touched me deeply. I nicknamed the support team The Five Pandavaas: they made me feel welcome and pampered. After eating out on the first night (where they got my order completely wrong!), I decided to “eat in”, and did not regret my decision: they bring in fresh ingredients daily, and the kitchen is visible to guests, which totally allayed my fears, based on what I imagined happening on the beach row - fresh fish was brought in based on my preferences and (of course) availability. I am already planning my return visit, this time with friends.🙂👍

I stayed for two weeks at Bohemian Masala in Varkala and it has been fantastic! In my opinion, BM is the best accomodation available in Varkala area. The manager and staff were lovely and I felt very spoil, garden is beautiful and peaceful, the cook is very talented and customized all meals on my liking and the pool was like the cherry on the sunday. This little boutique hotel is a gem, just go for it!
