If you're looking for comfort, safety, cleanliness and convenience, this will meet your needs. It is quite a basic hotel with friendly but overworked staff - so service is a little inconsistent, especially during the busy breakfast times. We had made several special requests for someone with dietary restrictions and those were not met. Other than that, it was an adequate and pleasant stay. The best thing was having a nice landing area in each floor, where our group could meet and hang out. The water filter in each floor was also a nice touch.

Sunshine, a 3- star restaurant with a bar, is addressing the demands of middle-class guests who need walk-away accommodation adjacent to Meenakshi Mission Hospital research centre in Madurai. It has all the basic comforts that qualify a hotel. The restaurant is known for its delicacies of local cuisines, be it mutton biryani, keema curry, prawns masala, fish fry, and local vegetables made in Madurai style. Above all, ghee-roast-dosas, mutton keema uttapam, and masala omelettes- you name and you to have. All you need to do is tell the chef how your palate could be satiated. You will be satisfied. You will visit the restaurant for its special chutneys and sambars. Of course, you should converse with the chef to make special chutneys to pamper your taste buds. Apart from being a major tourist destination for the South of India, Madurai is also a bustling city with people running around all day long. So, when a friend and I, who were riding from Chennai needed a pit stop at the city while going to another village nearby for another friend's wedding, we decided to stay at the outskirts of the city instead of getting into it. No place in Madurai's outskirts is as famous as Mattuthavani - a place with one of the busiest bus stops in the state. The groom friend of ours, who is from the city, thankfully got us a room at Meenakshi's Sunshine Hotel. The hotel is located right behind the city's famous hospital - Meenakshi Mission Hospital & Research Centre and as you can guess from the name, it's owned by the same management. The hotel has a separate entrance through a street past the hospital and following Google Maps got us to the location with no issues whatsoever. The place a good parking facility. As we were in our two-wheelers, we didn't have to worry about much anyway. The room, per se, is a very simple and basic one with a small TV. The bathroom is also decent and basic toiletries are provided as well. The staffs were courteous and helped us with directions. It's one of those hotels that you would want to stay when you're going to be out venturing the city for the majority of the day and returning to your room just for your night's slumber. Thankfully, my friend who rode with me had a relative to meet in the city and considering it's my first time in the city, I spent my time sightseeing. FYI, the city has so much to offer and I couldn't do justice with just a day's time in hand. On the whole, Meenakshi's Sunshine Hotel is a highly recommended hotel if you don't have much business inside the city and need a place for a layover. If you're a tourist who is travelling the city of Madurai, there are of course, countless options inside the city. The fact that Meenakshi's Sunshine Hotel caters to those who visit the patients who are admitted at the hospital and offer a roof to those like us who don't want the hustle and bustle of the city, makes it quite a unique hotel. …
