After nearly four decades Poppies is still being discovered by those wishing to escape the glitz and glamour of grandiose hotels while expecting comfortable clean surroundings, friendly service, and Balinese charm. Spacious individual thatched cottages filled with collectors' antiques, Indonesian fabrics and a host of creature comforts nestle in beautifully kept gardens with ponds, waterfalls, towering coconut palms, and a stunning swimming pool built among rocks and sunbathing terraces, overhung with riotous bougainvillea.

It‘s already the second time we have been in the „Poppies“ in Kuta. If you are looking for a quiet Place in Kuta, maybe after arrival in Denpasar, to get over the Jetlag, Poppies is the right place. Each Room is a Single appartment in the Garden of the Hotel. The breakfast is served on the Terrace or in the restaurant, which is close to the Hotel. The Pool is also a big plus, as it is quite big and hidden within the Garden. The Staff is very friendly and helpfull, since we were travelling with our 4 years Old daughter.

We liked everything about Poppies Bali and enjoyed our stay there very much. This is like a secret garden set behind a stone wall in the midst of Kuta chaos, yet totally away from it all. The very clean, comfortable Dutch-colonial-Bali style cottages are scattered about the garden to insure total privacy and quiet. I can only endorse all of the positive comments made in others reviews, and we experienced none of the negatives. The breakfast was remarkable, you can dine in the restaurant (fixed menu) or on your terrace, at the time you pick the food will magically appear. The location is in the heart of Kuta on a lane so narrow that in one direction only motorcycles and walkers can pass. The other direction is passable for cars and vans but very tricky. Most taxis will not drive to the hotel. Some people consider the difficult location a negative, to me it just added to the charm, like discovering a hidden treasure. To hail a taxi walk the short distance to Legian. There are many cabs that pass, use Bluebird or Ngur Rai (meter). There are many good restaurants and shopping within easy walking distance, including the hotel's Poppies restaurant. The hotel is only a few hundred meters from Kuta beach. The room rates are reasonable for the incredible experience. Communication prior to travel was excellent. For touring its more cost efficient for you to prearrange your own driver/van from outside.

We bookended our recent trip to Bali with a number of nights at Poppies. Arrival transfers were perfect after a long set of flights and staff were immediately welcoming and attentive. Kuta can be hectic, but stepping though the gate into the immaculate grounds is instantly calming. Cottages are wonderful, grounds are superb and the pool is beautiful. Can recommend this place without hesitation.

We stayed for four nights. We loved the lush grounds the bungalows were in. We could hear sounds of nature all around us. The pool was small but very beautiful. Our bungalow had a huge king size bed. We had an extra mattress on the floor as we are a family of four. We loved the location of our bungalow. It was closer to the road but very private and fairly quiet. The wifi in our room was a bit scanty. Most mornings we could not access it or it was very slow. Evenings were a tad bit better. The only other thing that was a miss was the bungalow smelled very musty the first couple of days. We left the window open and it did improve a little. Overall, my family enjoyed our stay at Poppies and would definitely return if we get the opportunity.

Thanks for taking the time to write us a helpful review. We are looking into the WiFi situation in your room. The musty smell as we always explain, is the only slight downside of our beautiful Balinese thatched roofs - there is inevitably a slight 'hay-loft' aroma from the grass used. But the big plus is that you get to view an incredible Balinese traditional roof from both outside and inside your room! A ceiling would spoil all that.

Still going strong after all these years! The cottages are spacious, well furnished, perhaps a little on the dark side and set out in carefully manicured grounds. The swimming area in particular is a delight. Breakfast over the road is another hilite not to be missed. The staff are simply brilliant!

We arrived with our driver getting nervous driving down the narrow lane in Kuta Central to this treasure tucked away behind a wall and oozing charm in nature lush gardens. Lovely staff on reception and helpful. Individual cottages hidden away with lovely outside space to sit and enjoy. The room is spacious (24 ) and well kitted out with sone nice additions and seating with fan and aircon. Pool is inviting and private Breakfast at Poppies across the alley was the best we had encountered in two weeks and put the Lovina Resort to shame. Service was good and a huge bowl of mixed fruit followed by a good choice to suit all and hot coffee. Overall the hotel is well worth the 5 Stars

A little piece of heaven, so peaceful! Beautiful surroundings, excellent staff, so helpful. Immaculately clean property. A little oasis from the outside hustle and bustle of Kuta. I would 100% recommend Poppies.

We loved everything about Poppies. It’s a charming, comfortable and pretty place to stay. The cottages were beautiful and very clean and everything worked as it should. The design is so clever that you can’t see other cottage entrances from other cottages. This made it all seem so lovely and private. A favourite spot was in the pool on the sitting ledge reading a book; all but my hands and head was in the water. Glorious! The man who attended the pool made sure it was always very clean and sparkly and he also looked after the adjacent pool bar and the the freshly laundered pool towels. Our other favourite spot was on our verandah where we enjoyed our delicious breakfast each day and also a delicious sate dinner; the room service was provided by the excellent kitchen in Poppies restaurant which is just across the lane. We had a glorious stay and would happily have stayed much, much longer.

We wanted a place to stay to do a bit of shopping and get our heads down following the journey to Bali. We know Poppies Lane from the past and wanted to revisit. We'd eaten at Poppies restaurant a few times so thought let's stay opposite. It really is a little haven in chaotic Kuta, an oasis of calm. The individual cottages are in a beautiful maze of a garden with a wonderful food. Breakfast is served to your room or in the restaurant over the road. We loved it and it was a perfect two nights In room wifi could be a bit better

Well maintained, established cottages. The place is quiet (though fully booked) and peaceful. Pool is beautiful, surrounded by lush gardens and cocking crows. We ordered food from Poppies restaurant to have by the pool and it was a real treat. The blinds keep the room very dark, the air con is fantastic. We slept very well. The service is fantastic- nothing too much trouble. Kuta is very dead at the moment. Many closed/empty shops and obviously past it's heyday but Poppies is an oasis, as ever it was.
