If you’re looking for a magical stay in Ubud surrounded by rice fields, nature and beautiful souls then look no further than the superb Umajati Retreat. Only 15 mins to Ubud central, using the complimentary shuttle service provided by Umajati, it is a haven from the outside busyness of life. We rented the bugoharjo house for a truly blissful 10 day stay. The staff and service was impeccable. The food was home cooked, delicious and made with love. The grounds themselves are astounding complete with a large pool and a wide array of tropical fauna & flora. The house also contained a folder packed full of brilliant recommendations for attractions and activities to help you experience the surrounding area with excellent local guides. On-site, there is also the opportunity to take part in a number of experiences from cooking classes to learning about batik and natural dyes through the ‘Threads of Life’ foundation. We loved every minute of this class in particular and would highly recommend it! We were fortunate enough to host our wedding in the spectacular coconut grove, on the grounds. The owners, William and Jean, as well as all the staff were wonderfully supportive, working alongside our wedding planner to ensure we had an unforgettable experience. Umajati Retreat truly exceeded our expectations. It’s the attention to detail and the conscious intention to contribute positively to the natural & social environment. The place and the people will stay in our hearts forever. A huge thank you to the whole team - we miss you already and look forward to reuniting with you in the near future. Love, light and blessings from The Shells, Rebekah & Jonathan and Mary

Back for the fourth time, needing to unwind after a stressful six months. I know nowhere that enables this better. With the sound of wind through the trees, running water and birdsong, and at night, the frog and gecko chorus, we could feel the stress ooze from our pores. Helped by Wayan's magic fingers - the best massage! A beautifully appointed joglo villa surrounded by carefully maintained gardens, delicious fresh food, lovely staff and a refreshing swimming pool. Our favourite home away from home.

This is a little gem close to Ubud center ! The rooms and traditional houses are decorated with fine style and to preserve the Indonesian culture. It is a true luxury desination, the owners and staff demonstrate how to offer high standing of comfort and high quality of services in a sustainable way and in harmony with nature. The garden and the swimming pool provide peacefulness and the meals offered by the kitchen is a delight with colors spices and quality ingredients. I've adored spending my week at Umajati and to explore the dyeing garden where is Threads of Life studio. It is a rare very inspiring authentic place in Ubud area.

We wanted a refreshing natural getaway and were totally satisfied. The traditional buildings are well-appointed and have effective bug nets over the beds. The design of the buildings lets in bugs and all the sounds of the forest so you're immersed in the setting. It's a wonderful experience. Breakfasts were fantastic, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the pool was perfect. We hope to return!

I attended the Natural Colours workshop in January 2019. Highly recommended especially for anyone involved or interested in textiles, natural dyes and batik. This workshop was really well organised, and run by a very friendly team of highly experienced and knowledgeable dyers. This workshop is a real eye opener - and will give you a whole new awareness and appreciation for beautiful naturally dyed textiles in Indonesia.Very well worth doing!

This accommodation is indeed a "retreat" with amazingly beautiful natural scenery and extremely well-thought-out interior design. My "room" was really a little home away from home. The food was amazingly good and customized to the needs of the guests. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I stayed here as a part of a Threads of Life workshop, which I will review separately, although it's hard to separate the experiences. Living in this peaceful "home" was a perfect introduction to the culture of Bali.

I stayed at Umajati as part of a batik workshop conducted by Threads of Life. I can only confirm what other reviewers have said, that this special place is the real Bali. It is comfortably and beautifully furnished with unique pieces that make it feel like a home. The grounds are a little paradise of surprises from the pool and water features to the tea house and temple. The on site staff are so gracious and kind and prepared the most amazing breakfasts and dinners. I slept to an orchestra of geckos, toads, and other night singers, woke to the beautiful sound of gamelan music and chanting from the temple down the street. If you need a vacation from your vacation, this little off the beaten path gem is ideal. While it is conveniently close to Ubud I never left the property because I did not want to miss one minute in this special place.
