Greasy stained sheets, loud men in the hallway at night, ant nests in the skirting, and filthy bathrooms. It seems they stopped looking after the rooms here the moment they got published in Lonely Planet Horrible.

Stayed here twice, a returning customer. Though I did not really like the fried rice offered by this hotel, but I sure liked the homey and friendly assistance from the staff. You can also rent some bikes to ride around the town. On a backpacker's budget, this hotel was a hidden gem for me. I believe I will return again...

We booked a private room with a/c for 1 night, however we didn't have a good night sleep. The mosque is a couple of meters away and even with earplugs in I woke up at around 4:00 and 4:30 am. After that, a member of the staff woke us up again around 07:00 am due to breakfast which was eventually...

Our room didn't have aircon and was a little cramped, but the stay comes with a good breakfast and a welcome smile. Dharmy was lovely. Its just a shame about the poor civet they have in a cage which I wish they'd let go free :(

The room was worn and toilet dirty. The whole place had kind of abandoned feeling. Anyways we slept amazingly well and the lady working there gave us good information about the city& how to visit Candi Sukuh temple.

My plan was to go to Istana Griya 2 but the taxi driver dropped me here. I was very tired and only realised when I had already paid for the room. Itis very basic and not very clean. There's a weird and mouldy smell in the room. I would not stay here again.

I stayed here for two nights after earlier staying at The Westerner, which was a little too basic for my needs. So perhaps that has coloured my judgement somewhat, but Istana Griya was very comfortable, a nice bed, good aircon, decent bathroom although only cold water and decent-ish internet access. The hallway is very dark during the day as others...

I stayed here for two nights. The price was cheap, but on my third day I found a much better place for less money. The room here was ok if you just need to crash for the night, but my room was dingy, the fan was tiny (the smallest fans in Asia?), and my room was full of mosquitoes...I lit...

Room is a bit dark because window is facing inside, but they are honest about it and the price is reasonable. Very helpful and honest.

Staff can give good information and help you with tours bicycles and transport. Basic rooms but have all you need, good bed and a fairly decent but tiny bathroom.
